However, the second quartet, especially in the first and last movements is quite different than the first. There are elements of pop music in the first movement which is entitled “Heartthrob†and is marked quarter note equals 80. The second movement, entitled “I Remember, is marked quarter equals 76 and resembles somewhat the style of the earlier quartet. The third movement, entitled “Computer Game,†is marked quarter note equals 106 and contains elements of pop music as well as of minimalism. It ends with a fugue.

David Fetter's brilliant new work Situation Update - Suite for Tenor Trombone and Piano is written in three contrasting movements totalling almost 11 minutes in length: 1. Swift 2. Longing 3. Exit Music Swift is marked Intense and is very rhythmic and angular. Longing is a beautiful lyrical movement marked Cantabile and Exit Music is marked Lively mixing chromatic, lyrical and syncopated segments, ending in a giant climax. Both the solo and accompaniment parts are written for advanced performers. The work's premier was performed in 2015 by retired Principal Trombonist of the Boston Symphony, Ronald Barron and accompanied at the Piano by composer Eric Ewazen. Movement 1, marked Assertively, q = 100 is a moderately fast movement with highly syncopated rhythms of eighth and 16th notes in quadruple meter and supported mostly by the drum set. Movement 2, which is approached by metric modulation with no pause from movement 1 is marked Slowly and Sweetly, q = 66. It features mostly vibraphone. Movement 3 is marked Spirited, dotted quarter note = 100. Written in 6/8 time, it is a fast and dance-like movement with highly syncopated dance-like rhythms and primarily supported by Djembe drum and drum set.

A stately introduction opens the piece, with all the instruments passing the theme between them. This leads into a the main body of the piece, a bold, driving tune that contrasts with a more lyrical middle section before bursting out into fanfares of repeated notes to bring the music to a thrilling finish. Brass Neck The tuba is featured prominently in ths piece. The repeated motif drives the rhythm forward: 'Cry the tears for the freezing years. Just walk away' ... as the other players finally do. Marked Andantino and in Bb major the central section changes to Bb minor, where the horn and trombone carry the melody. This is then taken up be the second trumpet and the players stand as the music modulates back to Bb major. As each player finishes they sit down until the tuba is left to finish alone. Autumn Breeze A sultry September evening and a gentle breeze fans the last of the fading flowers. The family are gathered informally, and the music begins.... Marked Andante and with flowing descending quavers, the opening has interest for every player. The horn and then the trombone pick up the central theme, and this is then embellished by the trumpets. A gentle phrase marks the ending. Bankers Notes A letter drops on the mat. A final demand and the thought of the 'green paper rotting in their clutch' assails my mind. I write notes of a differnt kind! The opening is marked Vivace and is rather punchy, but soon settles into the main theme with driving rhythms throughout. The extended ending climaxes in rising staccato semiquavers for all.

Newton Antiphonies (2008) for two or more trumpets was composed for the First Unitarian Society in Newton, Massachusetts on the occasion of its 160th anniversary in November 2008. The score of the work consists of seven cells, each with a different tempo. It is important that the distinct tempo and character of each cell be observed. Other than starting points (as described below), no rhythmic coordination between the performers should be attempted in any way. A performance should begin with the first trumpet playing cell #1. When he reaches the point in the cell marked with an asterisk (*), the second player begins playing cell #1. Once the first player has finished cell #1, after a brief pause, he may choose any one of the other six cells to play next. When the second player has reached the point in cell #1 marked by the asterisk, the third player begins cell #1, continuing after a pause to whichever cell he has chosen next. This thus continues in this same manner for each trumpet. Ideally, the piece will last between 2 and 5 minutes, although if there are an exceptionally large number of trumpets used, it may be longer. Each player thus always begins with cell #1 and after finishing it, plays the remaining cells in any order he chooses, not repeating any and pausing briefly between each one. Once finished with playing all seven, the player stops. When only one player (the last player) is left playing his final cell (and ideally at the point marked with the asterisk in whichever cell he is playing), the first trumpet should begin playing cell #7 again. Thus, the first player will always end the piece alone with cell #7, which is the only repetition of a cell that occurs in the context of performance. The composer recommends between 4 and 6 trumpets for an ideal performance, however any number (two or more) is acceptable. It is also strongly requested that the trumpets surround the audience antiphonally. The work may be performed on any matched trumpets (i.e., do not mix C and Bb instruments).
