Concert Band - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1435814 Composed by Brian Harris. Arranged by Brian Harris. Christmas,Holiday,Instructional,Traditional. 26 pages. HMS Music #1015909. Published by HMS Music (A0.1435814). ___________________________With a nice minor mode sound and a propelling timpani line, TIDINGS OF JOY opens with God Rest Ye, Merry, harmonized in drone fashion, then features a soli middle section of Pat-a-Pan for which you audition the players who get to play this more difficult middle section (keeps your best players challenged!) while the rest of the band vocalize a single pitch on ahh. The piece then recaps with God Rest You Merry with a slightly fuller instrumentation and a simple flute obligato line.FEATURES: Melody opportunities for all wind parts; Multiple percussion parts give colorful sound; timpani provide bass ostinato; Students sing ahh on a single note - great for improving intonation!; Soli section in middle will motivate players to learn the part so they get to play the melody (keeps your better players challenged); Low brass parts are very simple.RANGES: C minor (3 flats). Some Clarinets play low G and F (m. 14 and 48) - put your best players on these low notes and have rest play the comfortable notes of D and C.CHALLENGES: Appropriate for young players who have encountered eighth-notes and the key of E-flat; Independence of lines (melody played with/against simple bass and accompaniment; simple flute obligato line in last section); Some slurs and eighth-notes; Key/few accidentals (mostly in flutes, oboe, clarinet, and trumpet); A few extended range notes for some parts.INSTRUMENTATION: includes Full Conductor Score (8 pages) and PARTS (16 pages): one each for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn in F, Trombone/Euphonium/Bassoon, T.C. Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion 1 (Suspended Cymbal/Tenor Drum, Bass Drum), Percussion 2 (Triangle, Finger Cymbals), Timpani (3 or 4 drums), Bells/Tambourine, Chimes.PERCUSSION: parts to occupy 9 or more players; playable by as few as four players.MINIMUM INSTRUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS: Flute, 2 Clarinets, Alto Sax, Trumpet, 1 Percussion (Timpani), and 2 bass voices (Voice 1: Trombone, Horn, or Tenor Sax; Voice 2: Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Bari Sax, or Tuba).NOTE: This Digital Download document is assembled with the Clarinet part appearing as page 1 so you may view it as you listen to the sound file. When you print the full document (25 pages, total), the first page to print will be the Clarinet part, followed by the FULL SCORE, then the remaining PARTS. [(N.S.) 5 March] – 14 April 1759) was a German, later British, Baroque composer who spent the bulk of his career in London, becoming well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, concerti grossi and organ concertos. Handel received important training in Halle and worked as a composer in Hamburg and Italy before settling in London in 1712; he became a naturalised British subject in 1727. He was strongly influenced both by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and by the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition. Within fifteen years, Handel had started three commercial opera companies to supply the English nobility with Italian opera. Musicologist Winton Dean writes that his operas show that Handel was not only a great composer; he was a dramatic genius of the first order.[6] As Alexander's Feast (1736) was well received, Handel made a transition to English choral works. After his success with Messiah (1742) he never composed an Italian opera again. Almost blind, and having lived in England for nearly fifty years, he died in 1759, a respected and rich man. His funeral was given full state honours, and he was buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Born the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, Handel is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era, with works such as Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remaining steadfastly popular. One of his four coronation anthems, Zadok the Priest (1727), composed for the coronation of George II, has been performed at every subsequent British coronation, traditionally during the sovereign's anointing. Another of his English oratorios, Solomon (1748), has also remained popular, with the Sinfonia that opens act 3 (known more commonly as The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba) featuring at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel composed more than forty opera serias in over thirty years, and since the late 1960s, with the revival of baroque music and historically informed musical performance, interest in Handel's operas has grown. Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549200 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Easter,Renaissance,Standards. 27 pages. Jmsgu3 #3458689. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549200). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: small concert band, no percussion. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this initially to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not tricky, but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and, indeed, instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and reverberation for maximum effect. Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was the first to indicate them, such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He, therefore, developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He indeed used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Indeed, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, followed by a group response. Sometimes there was probably a third group near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. Because they could be appropriately situated, the instruments could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper can, in contrast, sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets and his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) seem to move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, the instruments are an essential part of the presentation, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – called Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

In this second of his piano concerto, he blends jazz with sensitivity, rhythmic to lyrical. This concerto is entitled New York Tour because like the city that inspired it, it travels throughout times, musical neighborhoods and cultures. Great compliment in programming with Mozart piano concertos or Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue to feature American classical composers or for the Fourth of July summer concert. At these schools many of his early pieces were premiered and performed, with one work being selected for main-stage production in the season. Moving to Los Angeles and then settling in New York, he performed professionally sometimes as a singer, sometimes as a pianist, sometimes as choral conductor. He composed incidental music for the stage. In 2002 he founded a composers collective where they showcased their work. He was one of the first composers to participate in the American Music Center's initial on-line library. The New Jersey Concert Opera and the Gay Men's Chorus of New Jersey also featured his comic operas and art songs. From 2005 he moved to Costa Rica where he organized concerts with visiting guest artists to present his chamber music to the public. Motch Music #694194. Published by Motch Music (A0.1089980). Arrangement for concert band. This is the 12th song from Preludes 2nd book, which is Debussy's mature piano music. It is a depiction of the Paris Festival (Revolutionary Day) on July 14. Against the background of the first triplet, you can start to see fireworks shining in the distance. After getting closer and closer and launching it bigger, it's dizzying and colorful. It's changing to shine. Fanfare-style motifs that appear on the way are deployed in various ways, and they are magnificently reproduced at the climax at the end.And the French national anthem La Marseès concludes the song with a reverberation in the aftertaste. The whole scale and the tonic sound are skillfully combined, and the original song is very pianistic.I want to switch the tone and tempo firmly for each scene, and try to play crisp and colorful performances. Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1292690 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 19th Century,20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and Parts. 160 pages. John Ivor Holland #883252. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1292690). This bombastic Concerto by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was composed in 1877 whilst still a serving naval officer, for fellow marine musician; it was premiered in March 1878 at Kronstadt, with the international premiere not taking place until the summer of 1952 in New York City. The work consists of three short movements, the second and third including cadenza sections for the soloist. The duration of the Concerto stands at around 10 minutes. Although written for the tenor trombone, the Concerto is standard repertoire amongst bass trombonists, as the composer makes few demands on the very high register of the instrument. Indeed, in common with solo trombone works of the period, the Concerto encompasses the full downward range of the instrument, including in the 3rd movement cadenza notes that are so low as to be usually unobtainable (and therefore played up an octave) by latter-day tenor trombonists. This arrangement has been rescored from the condensed piano arrangement for modern day concert band.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.859735 Composed by Saverio Raffaele Mercadante (1795? - 1870). Arranged by Brian Harris. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period,Standards. 4 pages. Bandroom.com Publications #553447. Published by Bandroom.com Publications (A0.859735). Written around 1820 by Italian composer Saverio Raffaele Mercadante, this engraving of his CONCERTO FOR HORN is in the original key and has been meticulously edited. Consisting of two sections, the beautiful, plaintive opening slow section (Larghetto alla Siciliano) is about 2.5 minutes in length and works well as a stand-alone feature to showcase the sonority of the horn. It would be perfect for a talented high school player. The concluding fast section (Allegretto brillante) is bubbly, delightful, and quite technically challenging in a few spots. The concert band / wind ensemble accompaniment (available separately) is scored to prevent overpowering the soloist and will work with smaller groups for senior recitals, etc. NOTE: This download is for the 4-page SOLO PART ONLY. If you wish to purchase the band parts and full score, please visit www.bandroom.com. This SOLO PART will also work with the Kuyper setting for piano accompaniment. The score and parts are error-free, as I spent considerable time in editing and making corrections to the parts while it was prepared for performance. This SOLO PART has tightly-cropped margins so it will print as large as possible on letter-sized paper. You can view the conductor score and sample parts as well as listen to a live recording of the work on my website (URL above) or on YouTube at https://youtu.be/NuMFb5p5Kfk____________________________ ARRANGER: Now retired, Brian Harris holds the Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University and was a band director for over 30 years. Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.985608 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Arranged Steven Stanke. Baroque. Score and parts. 122 pages. Steven Stanke #6323503. Published by Steven Stanke (A0.985608). This sparkling concerto by Vivaldi is one of the few solo works of the early 1700s to feature brass instruments. Their rarity stems from the difficulties inherent in the Baroque trumpet which were, at that time, natural, or valveless. This arrangement requires two advanced soloists able to play in the upper register, to a high C.

Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 for Saxophone Choir

Saxophone Ensemble,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Bass Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402348 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards,Traditional. 149 pages. Jmsgu3 #985560. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1402348). Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is significant for its composition and structure. It features nine solo strings divided into three groups of violins, violas, and cellos, showcasing a colorful instrumentation and demanding performance requirements. The concerto opens majestically with distinct groupings of soloists by instrument, maintaining these divisions throughout the movement with moments of independence for each soloist. The closing movement, a vigorous allegro, follows a similar pattern with the nine players divided by instrument. Additionally, the concerto includes a two-note adagio cadence where musicians were intended to improvise a link between the outer movements. This concerto is a prime example of the Baroque concerto style. It demonstrates Bach's mastery in creating intricate and harmonious compositions that challenge performers while showcasing the beauty of different instruments working together harmoniously. The historical context of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos is rooted in the Baroque era and Bach's circumstances. Composed around 1711-1720 and dedicated in 1721 to Christian Ludwig, the Margrave of Brandenburg, these concertos were a collection of six concerti grossi that showcased a balance between various groups of soloists and a small orchestra. Bach's decision to compile these concertos was influenced by his need for employment and his encounter with Christian Ludwig, who commissioned several works after being impressed by his performance in Berlin around 1719. Despite Bach's hopes for a position at the Brandenburg court, the Margrave did not pay for the work, possibly because the pieces were revisions of earlier compositions rather than new creations specifically for him. Moreover, the Brandenburg Concertos exemplify the concerto grosso genre popular during the Baroque era, featuring a more significant number of soloists than usual and expansive music that showcases a variety of instruments in different combinations. Bach's innovative use of instruments like trumpets, recorders, French horns, oboes, flutes, violino piccolo, violas da gamba, and harpsichord in these concertos highlights his creativity and mastery in composing intricate and diverse musical pieces. The historical significance lies in Bach's ability to blend different musical styles and forms while creating a set of concertos that music lovers cherish today.
