Theclassical guitar book in open D guitar tuning presents a new, and I think, additionalway of approaching classical guitar repertoire. Tuning to an open chord, in this case, DADF#AD can have itsbenefits. The most obvious is that amajor chord can be played with a single finger, or in the key of D, with openstrings.

Everyattempt has been made to keep true to the original manuscripts, butoccasionally the tune is transposed from the original, or the odd note has beenaltered to make the pieces playable. Ihave kept the arrangements primarily in the keys of D, G or A to take fulladvantage of the open strings in D tuning. In short, this book may not be for the classical guitar purist butdoes expand the repertoire that is lacking with open tunings.

The primary objective of this collection is to draw attention to these deserving melodies, some of which are now rarely heard. Longtime fans of the genre will recognize a few songs once performed by folk-rock groups like Steeleye Span and The Fairport Convention, here presented anew for the solo classic guitar. They are thoughtfully presented with good fingering and phrasing, with idiomatic guitar writing and interesting harmonies.
