Ode an die Freude An 8 minutes version of the famous hymn for orchestra and/or choir with an recognizable introduction. You will need this arrangement if you want the Ode an die Freude to begin with a worthy introductionGreatly reduced version of the 3rd and 4th movements of the 9th symphony. The hymn Ode an die Freude can also be performed as a single movement. Heavy brass has been added as an ad libitum instrumentation, to allow the hymn to be performed with full orchestra on occasion.The 4-part chorus can be sung even by a non-professional choir, and even by the audience, because of a convenient tessitura in A major in the hymn. The reduction of elements used from the 3rd movement leads - as an introduction - to the first passage of the hymn, and with material from the 4th movement it leads to the closing hymn. The hymn shows the lyrics for 3 verses.It has been orchestrated and arranged with full respect for Beethoven's intentions, but with an open mind to the needs of contemporary events and the needs of concert organizations and audiences. For the convenience of these events, heavy brass has been included for modern orchestras - even tuba which essentially doubles the original contrafagotto.This arrangement can be performed with, or without, a choir. For 2nd violins and violas of community orchestras is a notoriously difficult passage, with the length of a few bars, rewritten as ossia bars, where professional orchestras and community orchestras of advanced level can play the original passage.It is possible to set other starting points in the score (rehearsal mark C, F or H)) . The production was one of the earliest, if not the first, artistic incarnations of the theme of the Holocaust and the Jewish resistance to the Nazis. This publication is based on the autograph manuscripts of the orchestral scores of two episodes from Act 3 of the play, realized and edited by Sergei PICHUGIN. The editor hopes that the revival of the music to one of the most mysterious and tragic performances of the GOSET will be viewed as a modest tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and World War II. Towards the end of the year 2020 it became very clear that the Corona virus would make it impossible to meet first time since more than 35 years. When I realized that, some words an a melody came to my mind and I wrote this canon for the participants of the Neustifter Musikwoche (www.neustifter-musikwochen.de). We met in some video conferences, talked and had fun in spite of the situation. And I gave this song to the participants to sing it and record the own singing. You can hear and see the result in the youtube channel form the Neustifter Musikwochen. Faith, hope an love are the them of the song, according to 1Kor 13,13. Its intention is not to lose hope and confidence, not even in times like these. Also in 2021 we could not meet singing together in Obermarchtal. But were looking forward hopefully. Als gegen Ende des Jahres 2020 klar wurde, dass aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie die Musikwoche zum Jahreswechsel erstmals seit über 35 Jahren nicht würde stattfinden können, kamen mir in Anlehnung an die Worte des Paulus im ersten Korintherbrief (1Kor 13,13) die Worte und die Melodie dieses Liedes in den Sinn, und ich schrieb diesen Kanon. Statt in Obermarchtal trafen wir uns einige Tage lang immer wieder in Videokonferenzen, feierten sogar eine kleine Andacht zu Silvester. Ich schickte Noten und die Aufnahme einer Klavierbegleitung an die Teilnehmer, und einige sangen das Lied und schickten mir ihre Aufnahmen. Es entstand eine virtuelle Choraufnahme, die im Youtube-Kanal der Neustifter Musikwochen zu sehen und zu hören ist. Auch im vergangenen Jahr 2021 konnten wir uns nicht zum gemeinsamen Singen treffen. Aber wir blicken weiterhin hoffnungsvoll nach vorne, glauben an die Zukunft, an das Leben und an die Liebe. A Piano Trio, written for the Leeds University Union Music Society Winter Concert Series. Performed by the Hughes Trio featuring Christopher Hughes (Piano), Amy Howe (Violin), and Nikki Kemp (Cello) Programme Notes: This is a rather melodramatic piece that follows the Five Stages of Grief. I first sketched the piece for string quartet after an absolutely horrific interview at the Royal Northern College of Music. Feeling disheartened and dejected, I got home and messily scribbled on some manuscript paper An Elegy for Hopes and Dreams, and started writing this extremely over-dramatic and self-indulgent piece. I had abandoned this piece for an entire year before reviving it and writing the whole piece in just over a week and a half, now reimagined for Piano Trio. The piece starts with an atonal representation of grief before quickly moving into an upbeat Denial section which features a sort of fragile and manic sense of repression as a theme that initially sounds upbeat quickly unravels with whole-tone scales and chromatic movement. A representation of Anger is then seen with the whole trio playing the same melody with a jarring Bb in the harmony. The denial and anger sections repeat and regress before abruptly moving to a Bargaining section in which the original theme, ominously played in the lower piano and cello registers, is juxtaposed with a conjunct, major variation of the same theme in the violin. The Depression section takes the form of a cello solo as I find it to be one of the most emotive and expressive instruments and I take inspiration from Elgar's Cello Concerto, which I angstily listened to on the flight home from my aforementioned interview. A lilting and lamenting cello solo is contrasted with an atonal, aimless piano accompaniment which reflects the topic of depression. The bargaining theme reprises slightly with both strings performing the major variation before leading to the final climax. The Acceptance section sees the principal theme finally fully resolved in a major mode and with diatonic harmony. This is an expressive section as the whole trio plays the same melody with very simple yet emotive harmonic accompaniment underneath. It is one of a number of folk tune arrangements by UK based folk duo Na-Mara.An ’An Dro’ is a circle dance. Written in the key of G, An Dro can be played as a duet on two mandolins or on any C clef instruments (violins, ukuleles, flutes etc), with the guitar chords accompanying the individual players. We came across this particular An Dro from a collection entitled ‘French Folk Tunes for Accordion’ edited and arranged by Murray Grainger, and published by Schott Music Performance tips: this is a beginner / intermediate level piece played andante or at a moderate speed. We have added a second melody part to the original tune, and this makes a nice interplay between the melody instruments. As it is a dance–like tune, try to keep the tempo even. The guitar accompaniment can be played finger picking style as broken chords. When we play this live, we play the opening stanzas on mandolin alone and then bring in the guitar. We play it as part of three-part set following the An Dro, with our own tune, Canberra Bourrée, and finishing the set with our arrangement of the Galician Muiñeira, Muiñeira de Boal. Na-Mara (Rob Garcia and Paul McNamara) perform this instrumental piece on mandolin or octave mandola, with guitar accompaniment. They have also used it alongside other tunes in workshops as a teaching and learning resource, introducing players to tunes from different parts of the Celtic world.Recordings of this and other tunes on SMP can be found on Na-Mara’s albums ‘Sisters & Brothers’, ‘Navajos & Pirates’ and ‘The Bite’Na-Mara have built an enviable reputation for fine story-telling and musicianship. SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY is a collection of short pieces with a more melodic and in some cases rhythmic character. The pieces were composed individually for different occasions, but they work together somehow and offer the performer and the audience a roller-coaster sensation through the constant change of mood. Danceuphoria is the opening piece, an uneven, powerful dance which immediately creates an uplifting mood. Melodic Sorrow is a piece dedicated to the memory of my father, Konstantinos Nousis. It's one of the first pieces I wrote for guitar as a teenager. Here you can read an evolved version of that first piece which keeps the simplicity of the primary inspiration.Lifeness is an ode to life piece full of rich colors, melodies and harmonies. Meditation, originally written as the theme music for a Reiki Yoga YouTube channel, is a very slow and meditative piece with short melodic legato lines. Hope evokes warmer feelings. A simplistic piece based on natural harmonies that calms and soothes us.Finally, Cascading Waltz was chosen as the final piece, because it can be freely interpreted by any performer and gives the opportunity for diverse crescendos and accelerandos.The pieces can complement the repertoire of young students as well as professional guitarists who seek a modern yet melodic approach to the guitar.SIX PIECES OF JOY AND MELANCHOLY est une collection de courtes pièces au caractère plus mélodique et, dans certains cas, rythmique. A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below.The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra.In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers.The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded.
