String Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by trad. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, European, Patriotic. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? Finnish National Anthem for String Orchestra

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1511019 Composed by Fredrik Pacius(1809-1891). Arranged by Keith Terrett. Instructional,Multicultural,Patriotic,Praise & Worship,Traditional,World. 8 pages. Keith Terrett #811977. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1511019). An arrangement for String Orchestra of the national anthem of Finland. There are also versions for Brass Quintet & Symphony Orchestra in my two stores.Maamme (Finnish: [ˈmɑːmːe]) or Vårt land (Finland Swedish: [ˈvoːrt ˈlɑnːd]; both meaning Our Land) is Finland's national anthem. The music was composed by the German immigrant Fredrik Pacius, with (original Swedish) words by Johan Ludvig Runeberg, and with this music it was performed for the first time on 13 May 1848. Originally it was written for the 500th anniversary of Porvoo and for that occasion it was Runeberg himself who wrote the music. The poem has been influenced by the Szózat (Appeal) of Mihály Vörösmarty, both in style and content.[The melody of Maamme is also used for the national anthem of Estonia with a similarly themed text, Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm (My Fatherland, My Happiness and Joy, 1869).It is also considered to be the ethnic anthem for the Livonians as Min izāmō (My Fatherland). The original poem, written in 1846 but not printed until 1848, had 11 stanzas and formed the prologue to the verse cycle The Tales of Ensign Stål (Fänrik Ståhls Sägner), a classic example of Romantic nationalism. The current Finnish language text is usually attributed to the 1889 translation of Ensign Stål by Paavo Cajander, but in fact originates from the 1867 translation by Julius Krohn. The Tales of Ensign Stål were much appreciated throughout all of Scandinavia. Up until the time of Finland's independence in 1917 and 1918, when the song began to be recognized as specifically applying to Finland, Pacius's tune and Runeberg's text were often also sung in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Note that in the original Swedish text there is no reference to Finland (except for in verses 4 and 10, which are rarely sung), only to a country in the north, but the Finnish text explicitly refers to Finland. The poem's theme is, furthermore, remarkably similar to that of the national anthems of Sweden (Du gamla, Du fria) and Norway (Ja, vi elsker dette landet).[citation needed]There is no law regarding an official national anthem in Finland, in the way the coat of arms and flag of Finland are legally defined. Instead its position has been established gradually by convention over the years.Today, Maamme is firmly established by convention. Children learn it in school; in formal occasions it is sung both in Finnish and in Swedish. It is played at sporting events, such as the Olympics. In the 1880s and in the 1920s there were more attempts to replace it with a Finnish language version but these ceased by the 1930s. Some Finns have proposed that the Finnish national anthem be changed to Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, with lyrics by V.A. Koskenniemi (Finnish) and Joel Rundt (Swedish). There are also those who simply prefer Finlandia as a musical piece, although critics claim that it is difficult to sing.[citation needed]It is said that Pacius composed the tune in four days. It was popular throughout the 19th century, but established as national anthem only after Pacius' death. The melody of Maamme has similarities with the German drinking song Papst und Sultan. Many believe that Fredrik Pacius intentionally or unintentionally copied parts of the tune. Another Finnish patriotic song, Sotilaspoika, composed by Pacius, also includes similarities with Papst und Sultan.[citation needed]During 1993, an instrumental version of Maamme was used as Finnish professional wrestler Tony Halme's (under the ring name Ludvig Borga) entrance theme Love anthems, then join me on twitter, facebook, instagram & soundcloud for updates.

Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.746678 Composed by Johan Fridolf Hagfors. Arranged by Music for all Occasions. Patriotic,World. 9 pages. Keith Terrett #2613291. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746678). An arrangement of the Åland Islands National Song (Song of the Ålander - Ålänningens sång) for Brass Quintet.Ålänningens sång (English: Song of the Ålander; Finnish: Ahvenanmaalaisten laulu), is the official anthem of the Åland Islands, an autonomous Swedish-speaking province of Finland. Adopted in 1922, the anthem's words are by John Grandell and the music was composed by Johan Fridolf Hagfors. The song was first performed during the song festival in Mariehamn 1922. In Åland the song is mostly sung on Midsummer's Eve and on the National day of Åland in June 9th. The song originally had four verses, but the third verse is omitted for a long time when the song is sung and often when it appears in print.Johan Fridolf Hagfors (11 March 1857–18 August 1931) was a Swedish newspaper publisher, music critic and composer, most known for having composed the two songs Modersmålets sång (The mother tongue's song) and Ålänningens sång (Song of the Ålender).Born in Orimattila, he got a Cand.phil degree in 1881. In 1883 he became publicist of the small Åbo paper Turun Lehti which was published in Finnish but at the same time Svecoman; it became the only newspaper with that combination to reach a wide readership. He also worked as a teacher in Åbo.He composed several songs for male quartets. Modersmålets sång was first performed in 1989 and is today considered an unofficial hymn for the Swedish-speaking population of Finland. Ålänningens sång, for which he composed the melody, was first performed during the song festival in Mariehamn in 1922 and is today the regional hymn for the Åland islands. In 1912 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.Due to stiff competition, Turun Lehti ceased publication in 1919. Hagfors subsequently moved to Stockholm and obtained Swedish citizenship. He died in 1931. Fellow composer Erik August Hagfors was his half-brother.For more of my original music, great arrangements and all the national anthems of the world, check out my on-line stores:http://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/keith_terrethttp://musicforalloccasions.org.ukhttp://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=keith+terrettNeed an anthem fast? Multicultural,Patriotic,Praise & Worship,Traditional,World. 8 pages. Keith Terrett #811975. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1215110). The Finnish NA arranged for Brass Quintet. There also versions for String & full Orchestra in my two stores. The anthem lyrics were taken from a poem by Johan Ludvig Runeberg, a Swedish-speaking poet, called “VÃ¥rt land†(Our Land). The song was first sung in 1848 by a student group and became popular in Scandinavia and many of his patriotic poems, including VÃ¥rt land were used by promoters of Finnish nationalism. The poem was translated into Finnish some decades later, after VÃ¥rt land was well established as a national song, by Paavo Eemil Kajander and became the anthem before 1917 independence. Estonia‘s anthem, adopted 20 years later, has the same melody, however the last few lines do not repeat as they do normally in the Finnish anthem. Interestingly, the anthem has never been officially legislated as the Finnish anthem, but rather is traditionally used as the anthem. As such, there is no standard way to perform the 11-verse anthem, but usually the first and the last verses (as presented here) are sung. There sometimes arises a debate in Finland to change the anthem to Jean Sibelius’ song “Finlandia†(the melody was used in Biafra), a song recognized internationally as a symbol of Finland, but the general opinion seems to be for now to keep the current anthem. (One reason may be that Finlandia is harder to sing compared to Maamme.)Need an anthem fast?  They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522333 Composed by Unknown - traditional. Arranged by Paul A. Jorg. Christian,Spiritual,Traditional. Octavo. 4 pages. Paul A. Jorg #5869331. Published by Paul A. Jorg (A0.522333). This song is public domain, written in the 1850's, during a time - pre-civil war - when the nation was being torn apart. The writer calms his anxiety by holding on to God's promises. Here are some lyric notes: I am a poor, wayfaring stranger - Wayfaring: traveling especially on foot; peripatetic country preachers; a poor wayfaring stranger. Wandering through this world of woe - Matthew 18:7: Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! And there's no sickness, toil or danger - John 11:4: When he heard this, Jesus said, This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it. Ecclesiastes 2:18-19: I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. Acts 14:22: strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God, In that bright land to which I go - James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.I'm going home to see my Father - John 6:40 - For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. I'm only going over Jordan - Joshua 22:4: Now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan. Yet though dark clouds will gather round me - 2 Corinthians 12:10: That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. I know my way is rough and steep - Psalm 16:11: You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Proverbs 15:24: The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. But beauteous fields lie just before me - Numbers 13:25: We arrived in the land you sent us to see, and it is indeed a magnificient country, a land flowing with milk and honey. Where God's redeemed their vigil's keep - Exodus12:42: Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come. I'm going home to see my mother - Mark 10:29-31: I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions.

Composed by James James. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, World, European, Patriotic. Score, Set of Parts. 9 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
An arrangement of the regional anthem of Brittanny for Brass Quintet.<br> <br> Bro Gozh ma Zadoù (Breton: Old Land of My Fathers) is the anthem of Brittany, sometimes presented as the "national anthem" although it has no official status. It is sung to the same tune as that of the national anthem of Wales, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, and has similar words. The Cornish anthem, Bro Goth Agan Tasow, is also sung to the same tune.<br> <br> The Breton lyrics are the creation of François Jaffrennou in 1897, and the music was that composed by James James, of Pontypridd, Wales, for Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. The new song was first published in 1898, and circulated as Henvelidigez ("Adaptation"). It was chosen as national anthem (and a song to celebrate friendship between the Welsh and Bretons) in 1903, at a Congress of the Union Régionaliste Bretonne held in Lesneven. Maurice Duhamel adapted it for the piano, and it was first recorded by Pathé in 1910.<br> <br> James James (also known by the bardic name Iago ap Ieuan) (1833–1902) was a harpist and musician from Pontypridd, Wales. He composed the tune of the Welsh national anthem Hen Wlad fy Nhadau (also known as Land of my Fathers).<br> <br> He was born on 4 November 1832, at the ’Ancient Druid’ inn, Hollybush, in the parish of Bedwellty, Monmouthshire. He was the son of Evan James (1809-1878) and Elizabeth Stradling of Caerphilly. His father, a Welsh versifier under the pen-name of leuan ab lago, moved with his family about 1844 to Pontypridd, where he carried on the business of weaver and wool merchant. His son James assisted him in the business.<br> <br> James James composed the melody which was later known as Hen Wlad fy Nhadau in January 1856. At first it was known as Glan Rhondda (The banks of the Rhondda), and gave rise to the tradition that the tune had come to him as he walked on the bank of the River Rhondda. His father, Evan James, wrote the lyrics that eventually became the words of the Welsh national anthem.<br> <br> A memorial to James James and his father, in the shape of two figures representing the muses of Poetry and Music, stands in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd. James James died in Aberdare in the Cynon Valley 11 January 1902,[3] he is buried in the local cemetery at Aberdare in the same grave as his wife Cecilia and daughter Louisa.<br> <br> For more of my original music, great arrangements and all the national anthems of the world, check out my on-line stores:http://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/keith_terrethttp://musicforalloccasions.org.ukhttp://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=keith+terrettNeed an anthem fast? Woodwind choir - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CMS181 Composed by Judith Katz. Score and Parts. 48 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CMS181. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMS181). 9 x 12 in inches. With tremors that started in May of 1883, the volcano on the Indonesian island of Krakatoa fully erupted on August 26th of that same year. The eruption continued until the late morning of August 27th, destroying over 70% of the island, the surrounding archipelago, and collapsed into a caldera. This event is counted as one of the deadliest and most destructive events in recorded history. Over 36,000 deaths were the result of both the eruption and the tsunamis that were created. Weeks later, the eruptions on Krakatoa intensified, causing explosions on neighboring islands. Globally, these explosions had effects on Australia and as far away as South Africa. The 1883 Krakatoa eruption also darkened the sky worldwide for years afterwards, caused by volcanic ash. Spectacular sunsets were created and they inspired artists to capture the effects. British artist William Ashcroft made numerous color sketches, attempting to capture the look of the red-tinged skies, and there is a theory that Edvard Munch's blood-red sky depicted in the painting, The Scream, was inspired from his observing the color of the sky over Norway at the time.Of all the original compositions and arrangements that I have written, this is my first foray into program music. Program music can be a difficult genre; has the story really been conveyed? Does the orchestration fit the composition? Is it too short, or rather, way too long.I decided to write this for woodwind choir, rather than woodwind quintet. The sound of a woodwind choir offers enough variety of sound to convey both the frenetic quality of panic, fear, and desperation of a volcanic eruption, and yet the calm, sadness of how people felt, not knowing when things were going to erupt again.

Classical,Contemporary,Patriotic. Score and parts. 41 pages. BJE Music #638998. Published by BJE Music (A0.1033685). The words for this song were written as a poem by my late mother-in-law Olivia Morgan (94) about the love of her adopted country Australia. She originally came from her ancestral home in England when she was 14. She spent her early years in Australia on a cattle station. Many years later she wrote a poem. Olivia asked me to set her poem to music, which I did in 1990 in the style of an anthem. It has since been performed by the local symphony orchestra and full choir. This setting is for SATB Choir and Orchestra with or without piano accompaniment. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer… Grade = 3 Duration = 2:35 mins Full lyrics: Australia Our Land Australia great and fair Contained in azure sea Her beauty lies 'neath southern skies Enchanted wide and free From oceans pounded shore Through outback's silent space O'er desert sands and city strands She shows her varied face. Where high the eagle flies And mighty rivers run There rolling plains of golden grain Reflect the west'ring sun In bushland's shaded scene By mountain's dreaming haze There bird-land calls cascading falls Combine their songs of praise. Our country's bounteous gifts Extend from shore to shore In history's place, Her pride and grace Will live forever more This land that keeps our heart Afar though we may roam On land or sea Yet still to be Australia our dear home. (Repeat last two lines) Sung by Christine Neaves (Daughter of Brendan and Glenys Elliget) Words by Olivia Morgan (Mother of Glenys Elliget) Music by Brendan Elliget Copyright © 1996 BJE Music You can listen to the Vocal version at: https://www.bjemusic.com/store/p149/Australia%2C_Our_Land_-_SATB_Choir_or_Solo_Voice_with_Piano_PDF.html.

Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787259). An Open World, When I Land and And the Wind are three settings of poems from Fletcher LaVallee Bartholomew's collection entitled And the Wind: Gnostic Poems 1945 - 1979. When I Land is duration ca. 5 minutes. Minneapolis native Fletcher Bartholomew spent most of his life in aviation, beginning with a childhood flight in a Curtis Robin in 1929. His work in aviation started with a job as an inspector in an aircraft factory. He went on to become a test pilot in World War II, serving at the South India Air Depot at Bangalore, India. He often spoke later of his experience on the ship to India and the people he met travelling around the subcontinent. He subsequently worked in aviation in Munich, Germany, and in Lima, Peru, before he concluded his career working in airport planning and management. Follow along in the score as you listen to a performance in this video: https://youtu.be/8ZmbFg3jI6s TEXT: I fly da Vinci's dream on wings of speed,With effortless delight I cleave the air, Free in the boundless realm of sky, I feed My soul with wonder, questions seeming fair. Why brought forth to wander on this earth? Why given this brief breath of life, To wonder at our enigmatic birth, To reach for stars, want reason for the strife. Yet, being here, why try to find a plan? Why waste time in thought before we go? Is not life enough for any man? How many have, as theirs, my answer, No. When I set foot again upon the land, And darkness gains upon the setting of the sun, I long to feel the welcome of your hand In mine, to rest, let Time its silly cycles run, Life's nights are all too few. No other hand, no other's look, no other one, Can bring that peace to mind or heart or soul, No peace. Although I know there's always fun In life, to reach that sublime goal, I must return to you.

Brass Quintet Baritone Horn TC,Cornet,Euphonium,Flugelhorn,Trombone,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1215186 By Keith Terrett. By Williamson. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Patriotic,Praise & Worship,Traditional. 10 pages. Keith Terrett #812052. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1215186). An arrangement of the Scottish National Anthem for Brass Band Quintet. A constituent nation of the United Kingdom, Scotland lacks an official, legislated national song; in fact there are several songs in use as national songs of Scotland. The one most often considered as the unofficial national anthem (and most often presented as Scotland’s anthem at sporting matches) is Flower of Scotland, written by Roy Williamson in 1965 for the popular folk group The Corries. It was first used in a sporting match in 1974 by the Scottish national rugby team in 1974, sung by the team. When the British God Save the Queen was sung before a rugby match in 1988 to represent Scotland, and was met by derision from the crowd, Flower of Scotland was adopted as Scotland’s pregame anthem. Flower of Scotland, however, has not been adopted in any official basis as the Scottish anthem. Other popular national songs of Scotland have sometimes used as unofficial national anthems, the most common being Scotland the Brave (a traditional melody (sheet music) with lyrics writted by Cliff Hanley in 1950). Scotland the Brave was used as the Scottish anthem at the Commonwealth Games until 2010 (when it was replaced by Flower of Scotland) and is most commonly heard on the bagpipe, the Scottish national instrument. When the Scottish Parliament was opened in 1997, another national song (A Man’s A Man for A’ That by national poet Robert Burns) was used, which isn’t usually presented as a Scottish anthem. The choice of this song may have been to duck the controversy of choosing one of the previously mentioned national songs as an official regional anthem, or by using God Save the Queen (the anthem of the United Kingdom, of which Scotland is a part). She was 91 and had been poorly with many different illnesses for the previous 6 months, so we knew it was coming. But the timing and unfathomable sadness of her death, together with the start of a worldwide pandemic, little did I know it at the time, was to bring forth from me a tsunami of music the likes of which I hadn’t written for many years. A set of six solo studies for various members of the clarinet family came first, written between March 20th and April 20th. As I wrote them they were orchestrating themselves in my head and forming something else as well. That “something else†grew and grew, as the Six Studies intertwined themselves around each other and expanded together, joining forces with two brand new themes to form what soon was to become an immense orchestral work. The title was easy. Glastry is a tiny district in the middle of the Co.Down countryside of Northern Ireland, where my Mum was born and brought up. And Pearl was her name. Her full name was actually Margaret Mary Ward (eventually to become Denny when she married my Dad, Colum Denny, from Belfast), but everyone always called her Pearl. The nickname was bestowed upon her just after she was born on February 28th 1929 and stuck ever since. The Glastry Pearl is a tribute to my Mum and the great and mighty person she was to me and all who knew her. It employs at least one theme or motif from each of the Six Studies For Various Solo Clarinets and uses them throughout the work in the from of Leitmotifs. It was only when the work was nearing completion that I began to wonder how to describe it. Freddy Naftel, a good composer friend of mine, suggested that Tone Poem was a fitting description and I immediately agreed. The music itself is completely tonal and highly Romantic, yet also peppered with exciting contemporary disonance. I believe it to be a good, and hopefully fun, challenge to symphony orchestras, both professional and high standard amateur alike. It offers everything from the the somber opening to the hilarious and wildly energetic central Waltz, to the glorious soaring final section, so plenty of variety to please many palates.

Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #1066355. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1489491). “Rising Sun” was composed as a gesture of friendship between the two great nations of Japan and the United States of America. As a uniformed member of the Armed Forces, mine is a unique position of being able to share such a meaningful gift in an official capacity that bears great depth and meaning far beyond similar civilian cultural exchanges. Before being assigned to Yokota Air Base in Japan, I was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. Part of my duties as a trumpeter in the military is to sound “Taps” as part of the full complement of a fallen hero’s military honors. Among the most somber occasions of fulfilling that special privilege was on behalf of a WWII Seaman, Wesley Brown. In 2021, his remains were identified and shipped home to America’s heartland after 80 years of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.Fast forward to August 6 and 9, 2023, shortly after I arrived at my new duty station in Japan. On those dates in 1946, nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I recorded in my journal on the 9th that my walk to work was quite sobering as I realized that my presence there was a direct result of that complicated global conflict. With significant symbolism, Pacific Brass read “Rising Sun” for the first time that day. After nearly 80 years, the post-war occupation has evolved to a thriving partnership most worthy of celebration. This composition “Rising Sun” potently delivers a personalized celebratory gesture from an American Airman to all those communities we serve throughout the glorious “land of the rising sun.”In the music itself, one can picture a dim early dawn with the serene opening of the low brass trio. The musical content is repeated more loudly, with brilliant trumpet interjections as the sun crests over the early horizon. The music morphs and grows; varies and repeats, as it is intended to depict the subtly but rapidly changing beauties of an orange-filled sunrise. At last, the colors fade and the new day has begun, with a full brightness of hope.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1201464 By Vessela Stoyanova. By Vessela Stoyanova. Folk,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 89 pages. Vessela Stoyanova #798931. Published by Vessela Stoyanova (A0.1201464). “Mountain Goats and Other Creatures†was Commissioned by Rachel Jayson and the Lexington High School Symphony Orchestra. It was inspired by the folk music of my native land of Bulgaria, informed by my experience as a rock musician, reimagined through the lense of my place inside of a community of like-minded artists and musicians, where I have made my real home today. The first movement - Mountain Goats - is a sort of celebration of renewal, promise, and hope. It represents the tenacious will of grass growing through the snow of early spring, the powerful longing for human connection, the warmth of the sun against your skin on a bright chilly day. It carries both the pristine optimism of youth, and the nervous energy of trying something for the first time. The second movement - Samodivi - in contrast is dark, heavy and full of passion and desire. According to Balkan myths, Samodivi are gorgeous nymphs who live in the woods and often seduce men with their beautiful song and dance. They are feared and envied at the same time. The music of the second movement represents the mysterious dark forest at night - lower strings create the moss under your feet, higher strings use extended techniques to simulate the noise of branches clicking the wind, a few soloists represent different creatures - both real and imaginary - scurry through the woods above your head. Then you hear the lone song of a Samodiva in the distance, your heart is beating hard, your steps are leading you straight towards the call against your better judgement. It is the ancient story of fear and desire, of self control and complete abandon. You, the listener, become witness to a wild dance, fire in the woods, snakes in their long blond hairs, slender bodies dressed in white clouds dancing to an imaginary beat.  Then it all ends abruptly and you left to wonder: Was it real? Did I see it? Am I safe? The third and final movement of the piece is based on a popular rhythmic folk dance in Bulgaria called Kopanitsa, while the melody creates a fugue between the different voices of the orchestra. The Kids are the little of the mountain goats - free to frolic high above tree line, above any human traces, as close to the clouds as one can get and still be touching the ground below. They are carefree, daring, and somewhat naive, yet safe under the watchful gaze of their parent. The movements ends in cascading repetitions of a musical motif in 5/8 representing the relentless passing of time or at least our perception of it.

Chamber Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.944036 Composed by Ofer Ben-Amots. Contemporary,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 124 pages. The Composer's Own Press #4627681. Published by The Composer's Own Press (A0.944036). Kantes del verdgel de granadas – Songs from the Pomegranate Garden A Judeo-Spanish song cycle for solo voice and chamber symphony orchestra Composer’s notes: Kantes del verdgel de granadas, or in its English translation: Songs from the Pomegranate Garden, is a cycle of five songs in the Judeo-Spanish dialect, also known as Ladino. The texts, based on folk-poetry, are magical, passionate, and encompass a wide range of human emotions and experiences. We can find in them love and longing, sorrow and death, lightheartedness and folly, as well as burning love and even sexual innuendo. The vocal part portrays different stories and a variety of human characters in each of the five songs. It, thus, ranges in expression from parlando secco to lirico espressivo. The role of the orchestra in this cycle is more than just an accompaniment; it converses with the voice, adds colors and ambience, and serves as a commentary over the sung text. Thus, the orchestral part is equal to, or at times even more predominant than the voice itself. The initiative to write this composition came in response to a specific cultural approach by which creativity based on traditional Judaic material should correspond to four stages in the artistic process: Exploration, Preservation, Interpretation, and Innovation (as translated by the Hebrew terms: חידוש – פירוש – שימור – חיפוש). The main idea behind this initiative was to conserve crucial elements within traditional Jewish folk music, and then, bring about their revival as art music through new contemporary interpretations. Thus, the musical arrangement is partially based on the traditional Ladino tunes and partially original. However, phrases based on old Ladino melodies are starkly modified and composed in such way to completely evoke personal imagery and interpretation. The songs I selected for the cycle were taken from the four-volume collection: Chants judéo-espagnols by Isaac Levy. My criteria for the selection was finding lesser-known melodies, yet most intriguing ones and with a strong Judeo-Spanish character. The five songs have various degrees of arrangement vs. original composition: songs 2 and 3, Mi korason and Entre las huertas, for example, are almost unchanged, while songs 1 and 4, Dos amantes and Malato ‘sta el hijo del rey, heavily combine the old Ladino romancero melodies with originally composed material. The concluding song (Nr. 5) is entirely original, but correspond stylistically to the Judeo-Spanish musical language. While all five songs are secular in nature, the ballad Malato ‘sta el hijo del rey (The King’s Son is Ill) has been traditionally sung - according to Isaac Levy - on the night of Tisha B’Av along the scroll of Eicha to bemoan the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Judeo-Spanish text of the songs can be found below along with its English translation. Duration: ca. 24 min.Performance material by rental only! Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.828261 Composed by Anonymous. Arranged by Paul Thurmond. Christian,Gospel,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 4 pages. Paul Thurmond #4969095. Published by Paul Thurmond (A0.828261). Tune: LET US BREAK BREADUse: Prelude, Offertory, CommunionThis song is an African-American spiritual. Some of the text may date back as far as the 18th century. Although it has been used in communion since at least the Civil War, that may not have been its original intent.I have heard lectures given by researchers who claim that many African-American spirituals contain coded messages, intended for slaves, about secret meetings, clandestine worship services, and escape plans. Some songs are even said to contain maps. The texts are innocuous on the surface, so as to not alert the slave owners. Some of the double meanings seem obvious in retrospect:When Israel was in Egypt land,Let My people go.Oppressed so hard they could not stand,Let My people go.And:Steal away, steal away, steal away to Jesus!Steal away, steal away home. I ain’t got long to stay here.In Let Us Break Bread Together, this curious line may have a double meaning:When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising sunCommunion needn’t take place at daybreak, nor while facing east. The lyrics could be a pointer to a specific time and place for a prohibited meeting.Whatever its original meaning, this and many other African-American spirituals are now an important part of many worship traditions.

Small Ensemble Flute,Harp,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797341 Arranged by Beth Kolle. Concert,Folk,World. Score and parts. 40 pages. Afghan Press Music for the Harp #4808447. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797341). Songs for the Midnight Sun comprises fifteen Nordic folk melodies, dance tunes, songs and ballads that have captured the arranger's imagination over the years. For Beth Kolle, Scandinavian music is the expression of the unparalleled beauty of the Nordic countries. The exotically different modes and harmonies evoke wild nature, and unseen beings of the ancient folk beliefs. This is music meant to be sung, danced to, or crooned to sleepy children, preferably in an age-old log cabin redolent of sweet, mellow resin and many years of comforting fires. As with all her other books, these arrangements are meant to be adjusted to your own playing style. Use them as a stepping-off point for making the arrangement your own, or use some of my ideas in a different song. Consider yourself warned: many Scandinavian tunes are addictive and tend to roll around in your head. The cure for that, of course, is to find another tune to replace the one in your head. And so on....good luck with that.Contains: Song from Venjan, Traditional Song, Dalarna, Sweden, The Dream, Göran ‘Freddy’ Fredriksson, Sweden (also has flute/fiddle part), Polska from Hälleforsnäs, Traditional Polska, Sweden, Ball Polska, Traditional Polska, Sweden, Funk Fars Polska, Traditional Polska, Rättvik, Sweden, Marjankukka (Berry Flower), Lauri Keskinen, Finland (Flute or Fiddle part included), Springtime Waltz, Traditional Waltz, Sweden (Flute or Fiddle included), Walking Tune (Gånglåt efter Hamare), Traditional Gånglåt, Sweden, The Lost Sheep, Traditional Melody, Telemark, Norway, Waltz from Denmark, Traditional Waltz, Denmark, Amanda, Roger Tallroth, Sweden ,Waltz from Folldal, Traditional Waltz, Norway (Flute or Fiddle part included), Bridal March from Äppelbo, Traditional Wedding March, Sweden, Griffenfeldt, Traditional Reinlender, Norway, La Folia, Traditional Polska, Sweden (Flute or Fiddle part included)

In the late 1600s and early 1700s, Germany was predominantly Lutheran and experiencing a religious movement known as the Pietistic Revival. The Pietists emphasized living a virtuous Christian life, and encouraged their followers to express their devotion by writing hymns.Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel was part of this movement, and likely came from an aristocratic family. She also may have belonged to an evangelical women’s seminary. Born in 1697, Katharina was a talented published poet and penned at least 20 hymns, including Be Still, My Soul. The text was sung to many different tunes, but it wasn’t until the 20th century that it was paired with its current melody.Johann Julius Christian Sibelius, later known as Jean Sibelius, was a Finnish composer and violinist credited with having helped Finland create a national identity in the early 20th century during its struggle for independence from Russia. In 1899, he wrote a symphonic poem as a covert protest against Russian censorship. While much of the piece is energetic, representing the Finnish people’s national struggle, toward the end the serene melody of Finlandia is introduced. Finlandia became a national favorite when Sibelius reworked it into a standalone piece. Sibelius composed prolifically, but he also spent time reworking many of his old compositions. In 1927, Katharina’s hymn text was paired with Finlandia, and it remains the most well-known musical melody for the hymn today.

Le jardin englouti (The Sunken Garden/Minuet) - Intermediate Impressionist Piano Piece for Ravel Pre

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799621 Composed by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #5791453. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799621). From my in-progress collection of intermediate and late-intermediate piano compositions in Impressionist styles, this is an homage to Maurice Ravel's piano writing as shown in his minuets (like the middle movement of the Sonatine and the minuet from Le tombeau de Couperin). It means The Sunken Garden, and I'll explain why below. It introduces techniques that Ravel frequently uses but that less-than-advanced students rarely encounter in repertoire at their level: sometimes-awkward hand and arm crossings, extended tertian chords (9th/11th/13th voicings), large rolled chords, and some modal writing, to name a few, while still maintaining a clarity of voicing that students will find in Ravel's own music. All of these can be disorienting to students encountering Ravel's music for the first time, so students will benefit from Ravel-preparatory repertoire, like this piece, that introduces these techniques.Since most currently published collections of Impressionist-style pedagogical repertoire focus on Claude Debussy's language, this piece is a welcome addition to the student piano literature and will help bridge the gaps between standard teaching repertoire and pieces like Ravel's Sonatine, while also exposing students to a new, rich, and inviting tonal language that will inspire them to seek out more of Ravel's compositions. On a more personal level, this piece was inspired by the Sunken Garden, a former landmark on the Indiana University campus that sat across the street from the practice building in which I taught dozens of piano students, coached numerous singers, and learned piles of repertoire before moving away last year. The Jordan Hall greenhouse now sits on the former Sunken Garden site.Because the Wells Quad dorms are right next door, I hear this piece as a recollection of a social dance night that the dorms probably held frequently back when the Sunken Garden existed. Wells Quad served as a classroom/academic office complex for years after Jordan Hall was built in the 50s, but they are now back-converting the buildings into dorms again. (As of this writing, two of the buildings now serve as dorms, while the other two are still academic buildings. While I was pursuing my doctoral minor in composition, the composition professors' studios were almost all in Wells Quad's Sycamore Hall. They upgraded to the East Studio Building as soon as they could, though!).
