The song appears on the 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound. It was also released as a single in 1976, backed with Cook of the House. The song, written in response to John Lennon and music critics accusing McCartney of predominantly writing silly love songs and sentimental slush, also features disco overtones.The song was McCartney's 27th number one as a songwriter; the all-time record for the most number one hits achieved by a songwriter.With this song, McCartney became the first person to have a year-end No. 1 song as a member of two distinct acts. McCartney previously hit No. 1 in the year-end Billboard chart as a member of the Beatles with I Want to Hold Your Hand in 1964 and Hey Jude in 1968.Silly Love Songs has since appeared on multiple McCartney greatest hits compilations, including Wings Greatest and All the Best!. The song has also appeared on the Hits section of the compilation album Wingspan: Hits and History. Despite its popularity, McCartney has not performed the song live since the dissolution of Wings.Silly Love Songs was written as a rebuttal to music critics (as well as John Lennon) who had criticized McCartney for writing lightweight love songs. Author Tim Riley suggests that in the song, McCartney is inviting his audience to have a laugh on him, as Elvis Presley had sometimes done. But over the years people have said, Aw, he sings love songs, he writes love songs, he's so soppy at times. I thought, Well, I know what they mean, but, people have been doing love songs forever. I like 'em, other people like 'em, and there's a lot of people I love -- I'm lucky enough to have that in my life. So the idea was that you may call them silly, but what's wrong with that? The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy. The nice payoff now is that a lot of the people I meet who are at the age where they've just got a couple of kids and have grown up a bit, settling down, they'll say to me, I thought you were really soppy for years, but I get it now! Published by Des Press (A0.1077216). Kids' Song is an original piece for big band, composed and arranged by Des McNutty. The saxophone section needs flute, clarinet and bass clarinet, with only one alto and one tenor sax. The solo trumpet part is quite easy, spanning one octave; f-f'. The written-out jazz solo is not as difficult as it looks but nevertheless a bit more challenging. An easier solo can be written or improvised to be as difficult as the player dares, or given to someone else. The level is on the easier side of intermediate. Kids' Song was written in the mid- 1990s, apparently after listening to a lot of Isaac Hayes as an antidote to the then-ubiquitous Britpop and EDM. The style is a bit commercial and unashamedly schmaltzy - as you might find in a Broadway show from the time. The harmonies are like recently-poured cornflakes; slushy but slightly crunchy in places - and there's a funky middle section, as if you've mashed in a banana with maple syrup and Tabasco on it or something. Kids' Song was conceived as part of the obscure musical about the fortunes of a banjo-playing flapper from Burnley, Fifi Braithwaite, but dropped for stylistic reasons because the show was set in the late 1920s/ early 1930s. The sentiment is We're hungry. Why can't adults just be nice?.

This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts.Chiome d'oro, bel tesoro tells of golden tresses of hair, strings of pearls and roses that all charm and bind the lover to his love. It's a typical slushy romantic poem of the time and Monteverdi gives it some special treatment indeed. Originally for 'two voices (unspecified) two violins and basso continuo (now a standard part of any accompaniment) I have chosen to arrnage it for Two horns, Two Trumpets/Cornets, two trombones (baritone/euphonium) and tuba.The range of the violin parts is quite small, so it fits rather well on the trumpets. Of course, we are in the era when music was apt to be composed to fit any combination of instruments and so all the ranges would have to be similar to enable this to happen. I decided to give the duet lines to the horns.The seventh book continues to be a challenge. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, this song is exquisitely crafted and travels well onto brass.
