I joined in with them freely, until it was Spring, then I was off, like a hawk on the wing - searching for fortune - and something to sing. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! The pipers are proud in Kildare and Athy; there's no better music found under the sky. And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. The fiddlers are famous from Bantry to Cork. The rake of their reels would make the lame walk. But still, at the close of a fine Autumn day, I packed up my bags and I went on my way - searching for fortune but finding low pay. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. Far up the west coast, in Aran and Clare, there's harpers to bring you a magical aire. I listened, enthralled, till the Winter came on, then pulled up my boots - and soon I was gone - searching for fortune for still I had none. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. I rested, by chance, at the close of the day, by a small rounded hill, where I happened to stray. Honey In The Summer is a song by an American band, PUBLIC, from their single with the same title. This song is produced by John Fields, who also wrote the song with Ben Lapps, John Vaughn Handelsman, and Matthew Carter Alvarado, who is also the bassist.This transcription is based on the single version and arranged to be played on a 4-string bass with standard tuning. Matthew's main bass in the Fender Urge II Bass, an Artist Signature bass endorsed by Stu Hamm.This song is in the key of E major and is about 3’20 long. The tempo is at 114 bpm, and the groove sounds very prominent in this tune. It can be quite challenging to perform as the basslines were composed with a lot of 16th notes (semiquaver), and some of the notes were played short (staccato technique indicated with a dot above each note). The tune comes out well, with the same sense of pride mixed with poignancy. It's suitable for intermediate players and above. I can do bespoke arrangements for other combinations on request. See www.dominicmcgonigal.com Finlandia did not originally have words. Finnish lyrics were added, written by V A Koskenniemi. They were accepted by Sibelius as the official libretto in 1942. The English words are from a hymn We Would Be One written for the Unitarian Universalists. This arrangement has both Finnish and English words.
