It had its challenges but a little perseverance did the trick and pushed my student to get better at jumping around with the left hand. Pedaling is pretty straightforward. As with many of my arrangements, I find that making the left hand a bit of a time-keeper is always helpful, especially with pop vocal rhythms.

This arrangement was made for an early intermediate student working in Level 2 of the Keith Snell Books. She is in the NFMC Class of Elementary III. This was strangely not very tough for her at all. The tied notes can be tricky, but they are worth the effort. Have fun with this piece, especially with dynamics and pedal. It's a great opportunity to explore different pedaling rhythms. The jumping 3rds in measures 35 and 39 may be omitted if troublesome. Pedal and fingering suggestions are included.

I would consider them both early intermediate, easily playing at Elementary IV NFMC class. This piece was quite the challenge at first. There are some tricky sections with unison runs. Playing cleanly is important here. Pedal should not be used very much except were notated. A definite crowd pleaser. (If you listen to the video, those are my students performing at an Honors Recital—very proud of them!) Pedal and fingering suggestions are included.

He had this song down in two weeks! I was impressed. Easy left hand patterns are used repeatedly. I also left the intro on the mysterious side so that he could have a moment to think about the melody and rhythm before getting into the meat of the song. This arrangement was made for an early intermediate student in level 3 of the Alfred's Masterwork Classics series. She is working on another piece where the RH crosses over quite a bit, so I decided to create a good practice etude-ish version of What Child is This, since we are also preparing for a Christmas Recital. The reprise of the main melody is identical in the RH and LH, except the RH crosses over the LH the entire time. Overall, the piece has a very mysterious feel that really suits the melody and lovely to hear. Be careful if the tempo is slowed down too much because the dissonances might stick out more than preferred, so the LH will have to be played at pp in order to not distract from the pretty melody.I give fingering and pedal suggestions.

All of my arrangements are usually made for a specific student, so results will vary.Some fingering is included to guide you along. The song as a whole has been condensed to the main parts. As a general rule, I often shorten vocal melodies and remove excessive syllable notes (lyrics). Solo performances will sound much nicer this way. I also condense melodies for simpler timings.This arrangement was made for an early intermediate student who had just completed learning Fur Elise. I kept some of those elements in mind and risked throwing in some octaves for additional practice. I did keep all the exciting sections, otherwise it would be no fun. The song stands on its own and sounds absolutely beautiful. It has a big sound that won't take a student months to get through. Plenty of patterns they can grasp and re-use. Great for practicing arpeggios too!
