Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808646). Among the most noteworthy works by Clément Philibert Léo Delibes are two ballets, Coppélia (1870) and Sylvia (1876). Delibes based the latter on a Aminta, a play written by Torquato Tasso three centuries earlier, and it is populated by characters such as Eros, Diana, Orion, as well as Aminta and, of course, Sylvia. The third act opens in the forest with a celebration of the wine vintage, the Grand cortège de Bacchus (March and Procession of Bacchus). The March is exciting and brassy (enough so that the 1982-1986 television series, Knight Rider, used it for a musical theme!). The Procession is more song-like but ends with a big restatement of the March. Completed in 2012, this arrangement runs about 6 minutes, 50 seconds. The suite exists in versions for solo piano and piano four-hands. Weihnachtsbaum does not demand great virtuosity, and it has been described as a distant relation of Schumann’s Kinderszenen and Debussy’s Children’s Corner. This arrangement of Canzon XI in Echo Duodecimi Toni a 10 is for full Trombone ensemble – 2 antiphonal choirs of 5 parts each.Gabrieli was experimenting with homophonic style which creating a grandeur of sound to the traditional polyphonic music of the time.Adding this to the acoustic of San Marcos in Venice, along with the spacial separation of choirs, would have created quite a majestic sound!I intentionally was quite liberal with dynamics in this rendition to accentuate the individual lines in polyphonic sections. Seldom do the parts peak at the same time. This creates a lot of motion in the lines, thus a lot of interest!

Te Deum, written by Hector Berlioz was conceived as the conclusion to a grand symphony celebrating Napoleon, but ultimately, the piece was dedicated to Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria. Berlioz considered the Te Deum to fall into his ‘architectural or monumental’ musical compositions which is true, given that Berlioz led musical forces between 900-950 performers at the initial 1855 performance! Judex Crederis is the last movement of the Te Deum and represents one of Berlioz’s most dramatic works. As with many of Berlioz’s large works, the trombone plays a prominent role in the movement. After the spectacular organ introduction, the brass enters, led by the six trombones in a brief fanfare that introduces the chorus. This glorious ‘moment’ inspired the arrangement for a monumental trombone choir with organ. The original trombone parts are included essentially unchanged, with the other parts covering the chorus and instruments. The work brilliantly arranged by Marc Williams is intended for accomplished performers and provides ample musical challenges and rewards for the performers and audience alike.
