Violin & Harp - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Bach/Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque Period, Repertoire, Mother's Day, Wedding, Recital. Score, Set of Parts. 11 pages. Published by jmsgu3
This arrangement features the controversial "Schwencke measure" (ms. 27) that was originally introduced in 1783 by Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance. Duration with repeat - 4:50. Score: 7 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Well suited for church meditations or school programs or recital encores.

Ave Maria
Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals.

The popular Latin prayer Ave Maria, originally published as Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach by the French Romantic composer Charles Gounod is arranged here for pedal harp. The piece consists of a melody that he superimposed over an only very slightly changed version of the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from J. S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier. Both a version with annotated fingering and pedals and a blank version are included. The piece consists of 3 pages.

WEDDING SERIES - a set of popular songs and wedding standards that I've been arranged for years (some aren't as standard, but still). The formations are varied, from duos to orchestras with chorus. Most are mixed/flexible sextets where some instruments can be replaced and, as a result, ensembles can be completely changed. Some arrangements have abbreviated versions (excerpts) and are in several keys to adapt to a wide range of voices. These options are available in my catalog.

AVE MARIA (Gounod) in Eb for flexible quintet - provided in D, Eb and G in my catalogue.

INSTRUMENTATION:
- Score

- Part 1: Fl (Ob/Cl/Ssax)
- Part 2: Tpt (Flugel/Asax/Tsax)
- Pno
- Vln
- Vc

Baritone Horn TC/Euphonium,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552852 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3491315. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552852). Schwencke There are two popular versions of the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria to consider. Firstly, we have the version that exactly follows the harmonic scheme set forth by J. S. Bach in his Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Secondly, we have the arrangement introduced by the Choirmaster Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke in 1783 that introduces a controversial added measure designed to intensify the harmony in measure 27. Both versions employ the melody that Charles Gounod provided as an overlay to the Bach harmony. In either case, the convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide options for extended performance. The duration with the repeat runs about 4:50. This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Baritone Horn & Piano, S0.661783. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio. History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer. Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Â

Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod) (1853) Charles Gounod (1818 - 1893) Any Saxophone Solo and Piano Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod) by Charles Gounod (after J. S. Bach) (based on music of J. S. Bach) arranged for Any Saxophone Solo and Piano. B-flat and E-flat solo sax parts are included. This arrangment is in the key of C major, as was the 1853 original version. Tempo is around 78 bpm. The solo part is an exercise in expressive legato playing. Some rubato may be added in the last few bars of the music. The Bach/Gounod Ave Maria is a popular and much-recorded setting of the Latin prayer Ave Maria. It was first published in 1853 as “Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de S. Bach“. Gounod improvised an original melody that he paired with a slightly changed version of a familiar Bach Prelude (Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, Book I of The Well-Tempered Clavier). The 1853 publication is an instrumental piece. There was no text. Gounod reworked the piece in 1859, finally settling on the Latin prayer “Ave Maria” as lyrics. The new version proved to be an irresistible force. It attracted a phenomenal level of acclaim, becoming immensely popular, even improving Gounod’s faltering reputation with the contemporary public. It is a standard at holiday times, weddings, quinceañeras, church services, and other solemn occasions.

Flute,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549354 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3490015. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549354). This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Alto Flute & Piano, S0.661753. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance with minimal page turns for the accompanist. The duration with repeat is about 4:50. Score: 6 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Well suited for church meditations or school programs or recital encores. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Â

Piano,Trombone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549368 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3491299. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549368). This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Trombone & Piano - S0.662021.
