Containing a multitude of styles from Swing, Celtic, contemporary, classical, Rock and more, these are a must have for the intermediate to advanced player wanting to improve their playing.<br> <br> As the duets are all original, no 'cheating' can take place by already knowing the melodies so good tactical mathematical skills must be employed. Some of the duets zone in on intonation, others on rhythmic precision, or expression. There are a number of light hearted duets in the collection which provide welcome relief amidst exam study work (after all, music should be fun too!).<br> <br> The duets are designed for 2 C flutes (B foot/feet are not required). Or, for a giggle.... try them on two piccolo's (ear defenders are not included however...).<br> <br> The duets stick mainly to the keys and note ranges for the given grades but there are occasional exceptions (in our opinion this is good preparation for what is to come ahead) and generally the lower Flute part (Flute 2) is a little easier in standard (although often the melody line will switch from player to player to share the tune and encourage sympathetic listening skills).<br> <br> Apologies for the (rather poor) audio file; it's a digital interpretation of 'The Chase' - a comedy duet from the collection. They sound amazing on real instruments! There are 23 more duets too remember.<br> <br> Examples of the included duets include; 'Desert Scape' (with ethereal timbral trills for a shimmering effect), 'The Chase'.... a comedy romp (imagine a cartoon chase; Tom and Jerry etc!), 'Seventh Heaven' a swing jaunt, 'I baroqued it' (a baroque-inspired fast paced duet), plus Celtic flavoured duets and more....<br> <br> This is the sequel collection to the popular '40 Graded Flute Duets' (Grades 1-5) by Keri Degg. For those Bridgerton fans out there, Lady Whistledown's Society Paper is how her dearest readers discovered the juiciest news about everyone who was someone in London. "If there's a scandal, she shall uncover it, and share every last detail." Even the queen read it! The Netflix series burst onto the screen in December 2020, amid a pandemic, and became one of the most popular shows around the world. Kris Bowers wrote the soundtrack for Bridgerton. The recording was done remotely by just 8 orchestra musicians. It proves, as many musicians have during the pandemic, that you don't have to be in the same room to make great music with others - the process is just a little weird. The Latest Whistledown is a lively piece that is quite a delight. This arrangement is a bit beefier than the original recording, as it makes no sense to me to have members of the choir just sitting there with nothing to play while the others may think they have too many notes. This piece also includes a key change that the original does not have, because it helps lengthen the delight a little more. Scored for piccolo, 3 C flutes, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes. There is an optional upright string bass part that doubles the contrabass part. It can be played by any bass clef C instrument in a similar range. Duration: 2 minutes

My first season with the Oregon Symphony was 1962-1963. I was so excited when I was told that I was accepted into the Portland Symphony (now Oregon Symphony), I danced and jumped up and down. I can still see myself. Its was like winning the Powerball. I was only 17 years old. What is equally amazing is that 45 years later I retired from a career that very few people can ever experience. I was bass trombonist my first year in the Oregon Symphony and was principal trombonist my third year. I also traveled with the New York Metropolitan Opera National company for 84 weeks as principal trombonist and was bass trombonist of the Portland Opera for 18 years. I played in the Peter Britt Orchestra for two seasons and also in the Anchorage, AK. music festival. I was a scholarship winner to Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass. and the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. I was privileged to perform with Leopold Stowkowski and Erik Leinsdorf. None of this would have been possible without my early training with the Portland, Youth Philharmonic under the leadership of maestro Jacob Avshalomov.<br> <br> I have met many famous people and have played the world's greatest music. The Oregon Symphony music directors and conductors have been magnificent and have each brought many special talents to the orchestra. I remember special concerts featuring Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, Isaac Stern, Leonard Rose, and many others.<br> <br> During my time in the Oregon Symphony I developed a hobby of making batons for some of the conductors who visited our orchestra. Most recently, I made batons for Itzhak Perlman, James DePreist, Carlos Kalmar, Riccardo Mutti, Murry Sidlin, Hannu Lintu, Karel Mark Chichon,<br> <br> Andre Watts, and many others.<br> <br> Since establishing the Alan Pierce Piano Service in 1976, I have tuned pianos for the Oregon Symphony, Andre Watts, Lawrence Leighton Smith, James DePreist, Murry Sidlin, Norman Leyden as well as for many churches, schools and prominent piano teachers. Most recently I tuned the piano in the home of world famous Janet Guggenheim. One of my most special memories was an all expense paid trip to Scottsdale, Arizona to tune the piano of a prominent surgeon. While in Arizona, I had the chance to spend time with the late James DePreist who had a home in the area. For two summers, I also served as piano technician for the Sunriver Music Festival I am currently the president of the Reno chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild. <br> <br> Most recently I got to meet Geoge Curran, bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. My wife and I traveled two times to hear him perform my Romanza and Scherzo for bass trombone and piano. What a thrill to hear a world famous trombonist perform my music. I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the celebrated pianist Nicolas Horvath for enthusiastically bringing my Debussy works to public attention in their solo piano formats, both through his recent recitals across France and through this Naxos Grand Piano release (GP822). In some cases these are true piano pieces (like Toomai des éléphants), in others they are piano reductions of orchestral scores (like Fêtes galantes), while in others they are piano solos in their own right that also exist in orchestral versions (as in the incidental music for Le Roi Lear). Needless to say, most of these tracks are world première recordings, and this is certainly true of A Night in the House of Usher and its companion piece Un Jour affreux avec Le Diable dans le beffroi (?A Dreadful Day with the Devil in the Belfry?) which I arranged specially for Nicolas in November 2018 as a virtuosic, almost Lisztian paraphrase-fantasy. To remind us of the plot as the dramatic scenes unfold, Un Jour affreux avec le Diable dans le beffroi, like the start of No-ja-li) has a narrator (spoken in French by Florient Azoulay on the Grand Piano recording): [After an overture rising from the underworld, with a polka and a citation of a chldren?s folksong Savez vous plantez les choux?, a carillon rings out]: Hearing it, the Dutch villagers start to count, with the bells of the belfry / 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 8, 9, 11, and 12 / Perfect! / 13!?!/ The bell rang 13 times / 13! / The Devil is here where the clock should be! / Damn! / The bells are cracked. / The Devil laughs fit to burst / He pulls from the pocket of his coat, a small dancing master?s violin / ?My God!? says the devil ? and he tunes his violin slowly / The Devil leads the villagers in a fantastic and relentless jig [making jokes at the expense of concertos by Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky] / The Devil directs the villagers towards the canal ? where he jumps to the other side, laughing all the time / The villagers try to imitate him, but they fall into the water. / [In Part 2] the villagers are transported to a hedonistic and lively Italian village. They are similarly transformed: the men have crooked hats ? the women have wide open bodices! They dance a mad Tarantella / 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 13 / shouting ?Hey there! During the course of my studies in Paris, I was amazed to discover that Debussy planned over 50 theatrical works but only finished two of these entirely by himself (the opera Pelléas et Mélisande in 1893–1902 and the ballet Jeux for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1912–13). Of the rest, many were never started musically (like Siddartha and Orphée-roi with the Oriental scholar Victor Segalen, 1907); some had a few tantalising sketches (like the Edgar Allan Poe opera Le Diable dans le beffroi, 1902–03); some were half-finished (like his other Poe opera La Chute de la Maison Usher, 1908–17); while others were musically complete but had their orchestrations completed by other composers (like Khamma, by Charles Koechlin, 1912–13; or Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien and La Boîte à joujoux by his ‘angel of corrections’ [‘l’ange des Corrections’] André Caplet in 1911 and 1919 respectively).<br> <br> For it has to be admitted that what some scholars call Debussy’s ‘compulsive achievement’ could equally well be viewed as laziness, especially as far as the minute detail required for calligraphing his orchestral scores was concerned. It was as if creating the music itself was of greater importance than controlling its final sound, even if Debussy was an imaginative orchestrator when he found the time and energy to do it. It also seems true that Debussy also preferred inventing ideas to turning them into complete pieces. However, despite the lack of detail in many of his sketches (missing clefs, key signatures, dynamics, phrasing, etc.) the notes themselves are surprisingly accurate, whether or not they can be compared with a later draft. Thus, a large number of sketches exist for his Chinese ballet No-ja-li ou Le Palais du Silence and it is not too difficult to see which parts of Georges de Feure’s 1913 scenario (see below) inspired which ideas. But Debussy hardly made any attempt to join them together after the first few bars.<br> <br> It was usually up to his publisher, Jacques Durand, to find solutions when Debussy risked a breach of contract. Debussy was supposed to supervise the orchestrations completed by others, but this supervision was usually very light and restricted to quiet, sensitive moments in which problems were easier to spot. Far from jealously guarding every one of his created notes, as Ravel did, Debussy once even went as far as to ask Koechlin to ‘write a ballet for him that he would sign’ on 26 March 1914 when he was hard-pressed to fulfil his lucrative contract for No-ja-li with André Charlot at the Alhambra Theatre in London. In the end, Debussy (through Durand) sent Charlot the symphonic suite Printemps instead, whose orchestration had been completed by Henri Busser in the Spring of 1912.<br> <br> So, when I was offered early retirement as Professor of Music at Liverpool University in 2004, I seized the opportunity it would give me to spend time trying to reconstruct some of Debussy’s lost potential masterpieces from his existing sketches and drafts—then orchestrating them in Debussy’s style when this was appropriate. I had begun this mission in 2001 with the most promising project, the missing parts of Scene 2 of La Chute de la Maison Usher and the sheer joy it gave me at every stage persuaded me to tackle other projects, especially when Debussy experts were unable to identify exactly where I took over from Debussy (and vice versa) in Usher.

The period was characterized by the works of such great artists as J. S. Bach (b. 1685), Handel (b. 1685), Telemann (b. 1681) and many others. These composers defined the rich, ornate and melodic Baroque style of music which we categorize in the classical realm. There was another genre of music flourishing during this period, and that was the common or folk music style characterized by such composers as Ireland's legendary harpist, Turlough O'Carolan (b. 1670).In composing music for this book the author recreated harmonic and melodic elements of this great musical age, while adding some contemporary twists. All of the etudes are original and will serve to enhance guitar technique, phrasing, expression, note- reading ability, and knowledge of the entire guitar fingerboard. Fingering and string markings are included where appropriate.In addition to facilitating the many technical and aesthetic aspects of performing at an advanced level on the guitar, these etudes may be used successfully in concerts or recitals. Diversions is a work by Canadian composer Elizabeth Raum for Trombone quartet written in 1998 for the Aurora Trombone Quartet. Elizabeth Raum's writing is influenced by the school of the tone poem in that her music seems often to tell a story. Diversions consists of several sections, each with its own personality. It opens with a signal call from the first trombone that is answered in turn by each of the others. This leads to the first rather contrapuntal theme combining the Baroque with the Romantic; then a bridge consisting of variations on the signal brings us to the second theme of three muted trombones playing a lively dance-like accompaniment to the open sound of the first trombone. The continuity of the dance is interrupted by occasional asides or "diversions." Finally, all four instruments, unmuted, join together bringing the piece to a rousing finish. This work of about 6 1/2 minutes in length is appropriate for advanced performers.
