Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.778045). Danzi, Franz Ignaz (1763-1826) was a German composer. His works are not so popular. Only his wind quintets are know among woodwind players. He revered W. A. Mozart, and arranged Die Zauberflöte for string quartets. A set of the part notes was published by M. Falter, Munich around 1800. His arrangement consists of 17 pieces as follows. No.1, Hm! Hm! Hm! Hm! No.2, Zum Leiden bin ich auserkoren No.3, Schnelle Füsse rascher Mut No.4, Es lebe Sarastro Sarastro lebe! No.5, Herr ich bin zwar Verbrecherin No.6, Wenn tugend und gerechtigkeit No.7, Wie? wie? wie? No.17, Heil sei euch GeweihtenThe arrangement was very faithful to the original, and is valuable in that players could enjoy the wonderful music as a chamber music.We first made the transcript of the sheet music published by M. Falter, and combined them to make scores. The scores show some discrepancies, which are usual in such old music notes, and was revised to obtain unified styles and articulations. In the revising, we referred the original score by Mozart.No.16, Nur stille! stille! is for Monostatos, the Queen of the Night, and the three ladies. They are going to sneak into the temple. Thunder, lightning, and tempest interrupt them, and finally they go to hell. Danzi's arrangement ends just before the thunder.

This edition of violin and violoncello duets follows closely my publication of the same Greek folk pieces for classical guitar. The arrangements for guitar solo were written in two-part counterpoint and followed the strophic form of the folk songs involved. The melodic transcriptions of the folk melodies were not based in any particular performance, also avoiding the elaborate in many cases instrumental introductions associated with these songs. Thus, only the vocal melodies in a general recognizable version were presented. This new presentation for instrumental duets will stay with this generalised melodic version (without exploiting the instrumental introductions), but the form from strophic will become ternary (ABA). Published by Clive Lane (A0.1463459). ‘Lachrimæ or Seven Tears figured in Seven passionate pavans, with divers other pavans, galliards and allemands, set forth for the lute, viols, or violons, in five parts’is a collection of instrumental music composed by John Dowland and published in 1604. Apart from the sheer quality of the music, it is notable as the first publication of English music scored specifically for strings and for lute, and the first to have used the table layout for consort music. There are seven Lachrimae pavans, which are variations on the theme that Dowland had already made famous as a lute solo and a song (“Flow my tears”).The “divers other” compositions are: two almans (“almands”), nine lively galliards (“galiards”), two sombre pavans, and a “funerall.” There are 21 pieces in all and I have divided them into three books, retaining the original ordering of the pieces. This Book Two (8-14) - three pavans and four galliards:8. Pavan: “Semper Dowland, semper Dolens”9. Sir Henry Umpton’s Funeral10. Mr John Langton’s Pavan11. The King of Denmark’s Galliard12. Example: for guitar 5 (end of cycle 1 students): learning notes in 6th string in D and rhythms in 7/8. For guitar 4 arpeggio work and thumb technique, for guitar 1... in short, tailor-made composition!!. As every year, the pieces are worked on intensively for 8 days (in addition to a trio and a solo) and the creation takes place at the end of the course.From a writing point of view, the piece mixes Eastern European rhythms and a central part with a strong scent of urban music from Argentina.Cette pièce a été composée pour le stage d’été 2024 « Rencontres de guitare à Six Fours ». 'Bossa Copa' initially was supposed to be a piece for a Big band but eventually became the first Bulgarian symphonic composition with saxophone quartet as soloists. It was written for the 12th International composition competition in 7/8 (Sofia, Bulgaria) and was awarded with 2nd prize. The title is a word-play and comes from the way the composer mixes the rhythms of Brazilian 'bossa nova' and the Bulgarian folklore dance 'kopanitsa' (11/8 or 11/16). The soloists are the members of Quartet 'Gori' - the first Bulgarian sax quartet whose founder is Goran Tashev (alto sax).

Duration: 22 – 24 minutes, Six Parts between 12 – 16 pp. Description: Each of the SerapeÌs has a programmatic subtitle that gives the listener a hint as to how to listen. SerapeÌs Nos. 1, 4 and 7 (subtitled Three Brothers) divide up the collection symmetrically as all three share variations of the same set of motivic layers. Nonetheless, despite their common genetic heritage, the three brothers all have radically different personalities. SerapeÌ No. 2 is called Burro for its loping cowboy-swing. Its seemingly infinite upward-spiraling progression through succeeding tonal centers reminds one of the mules on the switchbacks of the Grand Canyon. SerapeÌ No. 3, Starry Night, employs one of Korneitchouk's favorite devices of combing complex order out of chaos. Overlapping melodic patterns in 7/8, 8/8, 9/8, 10/8, 11/8, and 13/8 emerge -- three at a time -- out of constellations of apparently random notes. The brutal SerapeÌ No. 5, L.A. Smog, is rude. This SerapeÌ starts as a sonorous block of jackhammer intensity that later reveals itself to be in a very brisk 5/8 meter. In contrast, SerapeÌ No. 6 is the most peaceful and static SerapeÌ. It includes a musical portrait of the composer's refrigerator turning itself on and off in the dead of night. A drone, which suggests the 60-cycle hum of the refrigerator, anchors the subtle shifting and overlapping harmonies of the piece.

With the exception of the last piece — the Chorale — the unorthodox notation is negotiable and open to alteration in consideration of the performer’s inclination and the instrument’s possibilities. The performer may take a highly faithful approach to realizing the score, or consider the Études as models for improvisation. Études II and IV, for example, ask the performer to continue to improvise in like manner, yet map out a clear design for the music. The degree of freedom is considerably more constrained as regards the final Chorale. The pitches, rhythm, length, form are much more specific in this case, although the performer does have great latitude (within suggested guidelines) in choosing registration. The music is generally scored on only two staves. Nonetheless, three manuals are requested for the realization of the Chorale. Pedal keyboard is recommended but not essential. The Pedal is particularly useful in realizing Études I and IV. Wedges and/or weights are necessary for Études III, and may be a useful substitute for the Pedal in Études I and IV. In honor of Gabriel Fauré Barcarolle No.4 by Gabriel Fauré was one of the first pieces I learned when I was studying piano at the college level. I still clearly remember my first contact with this piece, which was also my first encounter with Fauré. The strange beauty of the secondary theme of this piece captivated me. In honor of Fauré and in memory of this highpoint in my musical development, I also composed a barcarolle. Written on a larger scale, the form of my piece still strives to emulate Fauré. It is written in ABA form, with a contrasting central section introducing an intricate theme. Although it might sound new, this central theme is essentially a variation on the initial melodic motif of the piece. The piece is built on a ternary rocking rhythm typical of the barcarolle. Still, some rhythm irregularities are noticeable from the very beginning of the piece, with measures alternating between 9/8 and 11/8.
