Another work in the series for younger and less experienced instrumentalist with organ, this is based on the Palm Sunday hymn tune Ellacombe, with one of the most popular texts being Hosanna, Loud Hosanna. Once again, the range and rhythmic demands on the trombonist are minimal, with the easy organ part being very supportive. Parts are also included for baritone (both TC and BC), trumpet, and tenor sax. There are two other movments, Easter and Lent, also available separately, or as the complete three movement suite. There are two other suites from 2020 and 2021 available as well, with two movements of each based on hymn tunes and the other movements being original works. With a chromatic, chordal accompaniment, this will give these trombonists a chance to work on some new notes and triplet patterns. The other two movements, 1. Foundation Fanfare and 2. Psalm on Picardy, are based on hymn tunes, making this suite appropriate for church or recital use. Each has a very limited range and easier rhythms, most of which are introduced by the organ accompaniment. Give that young musician a chance to shine! In addition to the organ and trombone parts, I have included a treble clef part, for those Baritone TC, Tenor Sax, or Trumpet players too!

Foundation Fanfare, based on the hymn tune Aurelia (The Church's One Foundation), 2. Psalm on Picardy (Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence), and 3. Modern March (an original composition). All three are geared for the younger player, with limited range, repetitive rhythmic patterns, and a variety of keys for the younger player to master. There are recordings and videos of all three movements on this site as well as on YouTube at OrganGuyPhil. The suite includes both organ and trombone parts, but also a Treble Clef part useable for Baritone TC, Trumpet, or Tenor Sax. The movements can be used separately or together, during worship or as special music.

This work is based on the hymn tune Picardy, usually known by the text Let all mortal flesh keep silence. This work was composed with the younger, less experienced trombonist in mind. The range is limited and rhythms are easy, well within reach of a normal middle school trombonist. The trombone solo part is included, as is a Treble Clef part for either Baritone T.C. or Trumpet. This would be perfect as an offertory, a somber prelude, or as special music. The complete 2021 Suite is available on this site, and each movement is also available separately.

Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. Â

The 16th century tune Es ist ein Ros entsprungen is popular at Christmas, known as Lo, how a rose e'er blooming, A great and mighty wonder, and other texts. This arrangement is another written to feature a younger instrumentalist in your Christmas services. Parts for trombone, baritone, and trumpet are included, and other instrument transpotitions can be arranged by contacting the composer. I've used the feeling of A great and mighty wonder for this, since a faster tempo normally works better for a young musician. An experieced played can easily handle this as a slower tempo, reminiscent of Lo, how a rose e'er blooming. There are three other suites with traditional hymns and original works, under the titles of 2020, 2021, and 2022 Suites for Trombone and Organ. I hope you will give some younger players the chance to shine!
