ISBN 9790203705772.Die vorliegende Sonate entstammt einem Manuskript aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Es umfasst 54 Sonaten fur ein Melodieinstrument und Bc sowie einige Duette fur Traversfloten; dieses Manuskript ist wahrscheinlich eine Abschrift der Sammlung von Traversfloten-Sonaten, die Friedrich der Grosse anlegen liess. Unter den Komponisten befinden sich bekannte Namen (Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi u.a.); weniger bekannte (Loeillet, Schickhardt, u.a.), etliche Anonymi bestreiten den Rest. Auffallend ist die Bevorzugung der Traversflote: Kompositionen fur dieses Instrument umfassen zwei Drittel aller Sonaten, darunter etliche Bearbeitungen originaler Violinkompositionen. Vielleicht ein Hinweis auf eine in das fruhe 18. Jahrhundert zu legende Entstehungszeit der Sammlung, als die Traversflote in Mode kam und es an originalen Kompositionen fur sie noch fehlte. - Die vorliegende Sonate eines Monsieur Walter (der vollstandige Name sowie die Lebensstationen des Komponisten konnten nicht in Erfahrung gebracht werden) ist im Manuskript fur Violine bestimmt; ihr Tonumfang entspricht aber der Traversflote. DIe Sonate ist stark von den Violinsonaten op. 5 von Arcangelo Corelli (Rom 1700) beeinflusst. Die zahlreichen Fiorituren (Verzierungen) in den langsamen Satzen bieten ein hervorragendes Anschauungsmaterial im Hinblick auf ahnliche, schlicht notierte Satze derselben Epoche.

Georg Friedrich Händel wrote 22 keyboard suites over his lifetime, primarily in his younger years. Not all the suites lend themselves to brass performance, but this one is perfectly suited for such treatment. Allievo di Francesco Durante e di Leonardo Leo, si dice che all'inizio degli anni '40, come molti musicisti, compreso il Leo, si fosse recato a Bologna per apprendere da padre Martini; -Chi siete voi?, chiese Martini, volete burlarvi di me? Sono io che voglio apprendere da voi! Dal '48 al '54 fu maestro di cappella in S.Pietro a Roma, ed è a questo periodo che deve ascriversi il brano che proponiamo in trascrizione. Gli ultimi vent'anni di vita li passò in Germania, maestro di cappella dei Württemberg a Stoccarda; qui si imbastardì il suo bel barocco, napoletano-romano, appesantendosi (almeno secondo i contemporanei in patria) di ornamenti inopportuni. Trascrizione a cura di Guido Menestrina dai manoscritti della Biblioteca Nazionale di Spagna e della Biblioteca Palatina di Parma, disponibile in chiavi moderne A Score for 6 voices choir (SSAATB), soprano solo, and SATB quartet by Niccolò Jommelli, who was Durante's and Leo's pupil and very much appreciated by G.B.Martini at his time. He was maestro di cappella in St.Peter's Cathedral in Rome in the period he composed this music. In the last 20 years of his life he was chapelmaster in Stuttgart, where his clean Neapolitan baroque style got heavier and full of embellishments.

Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.1184728). Paradise Lost by The English poet John Milton is an epic occupying twelve books, totalling more than ten thousand five hundred lines. It retells the tale of the Fall of Mankind – the moment when Eve was enticed by Satan to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge and then tempted Adam to do the same, and as a result both were banished from the Garden of Eden. Milton imagines far more detail than the Holy Bible. This song presents the story from Adam’s point of view, so I selected relevant passages in Paradise Lost, where Milton imagines Adam’s thoughts and experiences; and I edited them for scansion, to suit a more modern ear, and to make a logical sequence of events. Adam bemoans the deception of Eve by the Serpent and his own shame.  Then he hears Archangel Michael  pronounce the couple’s sentence of banishment from Eden. Next he laments his having to leave Eden. Michael warns him that there will be consequences for all his descendants, and he is given a vision of those horrid consequences—murder, disease and misery. They leave Eden, and Adam hymns of his renewed worshipful attitude,  of a final acceptance of their new more ordinary life.DURATION:  11 minutes.INSTRUMENTATION:  Tenor(c to top c), with either a reed quartet (Oboes, Clarinet and Bassoon) or string quartet.  Dress optional.
