The Discontented Housewife FULL ORCHESTRAL SCORE AND INDIVIDUAL PARTS (Individual vocal parts are not included, Piano Vocal Score sold separately), A Comic Opera in One Ridiculously Short Act Music and Libretto by James Nathaniel Holland Composer Website: https://www.facebook.com/jamesnathanielholland/Â YouTube presentation of entire opera with singers and piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAGjuXCvwzE (Duration: 30') In Czech, fully realized production: Â https://youtu.be/raDiBJAaM_0?si=Yzim2ifUyviLoKRDÂ Twenty some odd years before the Desperate Housewives phenomenon there was a discontented housewife named Margaret. Sung here by Colleen McGrath and Dennis Jesse as her husband Harold. Synopsis: This is the interesting story of Margaret. So begins the screwball one-act chamber opera about an emotionally abused housewife, and the extent she goes to change the situation life has dealt her. Not even the pianist is allowed to sit by and idly accompany Margaret's journey into self-empowerment. Is it a battle between the sexes? Certainly not. It's more like power, domination and the pure thrill of ordering others around. ARTISTS NEEDED: Soprano (Coloratura) Margaret, Harold (Baritone)ORCHESTRATION: Picc, fl12, ob12, cl12, bsn, hrn12, tpt, trm, timp, perc (or drum set), pno, strings. (Full Score in Concert Pitch, Individual Vocal Parts are not included. Please purchase the piano vocal score, sold separately.)Great vehicle for young artists. First premiered at DePauw University, Greencastle Indiana in 1987. Later performed by the New Jersey Concert Opera in 2004. Combine with either J.N. Holland's other one act operas The One Upstairs (comedy) and O Holy Art (tragedy) to make a complete opera evening entitled A New York Triptych All require same type of singers (with some addition and chorus) and same size of orchestra. Other operas also available and published, sold separately. Please note: Although this is a farce, the orchestral should have solid players, an experienced conductor and enough rehearsal time should be given so that the piece won't fall apart in performance. Due to the comedic element, there are constantly shifting tempos and effects that a community or amateur orchestra/conductor might have difficulty with.

Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,Double Reed Quintet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1201729 Composed by Brandon Nelson. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 38 pages. Brandon Nelson #800345. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.1201729). In this piece (the first of an open-ended series of pieces), I explore four pharmaceutical agents, imagining how their effects on one’s body might be translated into sounds. The work opens with a prelude, which exhibits the primary melodic materials the rest of the piece is built upon.Ciprofloxacin is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics. I envision a “battle†between the drug and the offending bacterium, much as it occurs in the course of treating respiratory tract infections and urinary infections. In Albuterol, I begin the movement with rather “breathless†figures that gradually calm and end in wide open respite. Albuterol is best known for treating exacerbations of asthma, which relaxes bronchi that have become inflamed. When blood pressure becomes too high, this can cause a number of life-threatening conditions. One drug commonly used to bring blood pressure under control is Metoprolol, which acts on a number of bodily systems to “slow things down.†In this movement, I depict this gradual releasing of tension both in rhythmic figuration and in tempo. The final movement presents Modafinil, part of a relatively new class of drugs known as eugeroics. Essentially a stimulant, modafinil promotes wakefulness and is claimed by some to increase energy level and mental clarity. In this closing movement, I depict one of the less pleasant side effects of this stimulation: the jitters.

Chamber Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.942093 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Score and parts. 113 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #6082737. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942093). The guitar concerto Phygein Adynaton (Impossible to Escape) calls for a guitarist with two classical guitars (one of which is prepared with paper-clips) and orchestra. The work is in one movement throughout but essentially has two parts divided in half by the guitar Cadenza at the end of the first part. The first part is evocative and stochastic. This invocation is around a tonal center where guitar and orchestra coexist in equal terms. In the second part the orchestra takes a different, more dynamic part. The prepared guitar sounds almost distorted, like a new instrument melodic and percussive at the same time. This part of the concerto is darker in the mood and of a philosophical point of view is trying to give a direction in the battle between life and death.

Music and song composed by me, dedicated to my sister dead THE MISSING LINK I often still get surprised looking for you between people in a gesture in an instant in an evasive shadow and I remain hooked between past and present a recurring sensation alone among people. Lying and pretending than inside me nothing is missing a pathetic clown always happy and smiley I write music and words to tame the fire inside me because only we know where this pain is taking us where are you? where are you? my sweet missing link you will come back to fill my mind I step back once again and I am limbing next to you hand in hand resigned, while the grey was oppressing for the two of us at every awakening a battle would start I pushed that moment back I didn't wanna be awake but you always protected me even from a cruel child my fearless sister so storng and independent you used to talk to me about guys and how to kiss them I used to blush and my heart beating fast I will look for and call my missing ring and you will answer with the same silence used to ask me if you were beautiful with that storng make up on you looked like a sad Pierrot tired of being avoided you were uncomofortable and people used to push you away many ignorant hypocrits looking like saints and again the two of us together in the open abyss me climbing up slowly but you remain behind I give you my hand but your destiny was written you fall down deep and far in that damned hell it will shine, it will shine my missing ring I will show it proudly to the people and you flew away in that boiling July the freeze inside my heart you, unconscous and paralyzed and for your last travel few hopeless people for the life she used to live it's better that she s gone but they know nothing about it about your unheard shout of my diamonds ring dropped in the mud freedom is a meaningless word oh you, bling and deaf butterfly your wings are now open you will fly, I will fly and I will delete the distance I will find my missing ring.. Viola part only - This piano trio performs as a dramatic battle between the Violist and Cellist to have the last word, or in this case, the last note, and win the overall piece. The exciting and fast-paced musical dialogue between the two players is interrupted by a series of expressive but furious cadenzas, which builds to a series of unsuspecting climaxes.Thoughts from the composer - I found it a great challenge to build up and explore the narrative of the piece musically, but ultimately a rewarding one, especially in concert, where the true theatricality of the Duel can be brought to life..

Ron Grainer's characterful theme for the BBC TV sitcom 'Steptoe and Son'. The music beautifully captures the plodding journey of a Rag and Bone man's horse as the travel on their collection trip around the streets of Shepherd's Bush area of London in the earl 1960's. Scored lightly for Clarinet, Baritone Sax, Trombone, Guitar and percussion the arrangement tries to capture the battle between the two main characters in the sitcom by splitting between the instruments whilst life and the horse continue to plod on regardless.

FAIREST ISLE from King Arthur by H. Purcell
Brass Ensemble Horn - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.931279 Composed by Henry P…
(+)
Brass Ensemble Horn - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.931279 Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Alessandro Macrì. Baroque,Concert,Film/TV,Standards. Score and parts. 10 pages. Music Macri Editions #6139975. Published by Music Macri Editions (A0.931279). King Arthur, or The British Worthy (Z. 628), is a semi-opera in five acts with music by Henry Purcell and a libretto by John Dryden. It was first performed at the Queen's Theatre, Dorset Garden, London, in late May or early June 1691.The plot is based on the battles between King Arthur's Britons and the Saxons, rather than the legends of Camelot (although Merlin does make an appearance). It is a Restoration spectacular, including such supernatural characters as Cupid and Venus plus references to the Germanic gods of the Saxons, Woden, Thor, and Freya. The tale centres on Arthur's endeavours to recover his fiancée, the blind Cornish Princess Emmeline, who has been abducted by his arch-enemy, the Saxon King Oswald of Kent.King Arthur is a dramatick opera or semi-opera: the principal characters do not sing, except if they are supernatural, pastoral or, in the case of Comus and the popular Your hay it is mow'd, drunk. Secondary characters sing to them, usually as diegetic entertainment, but in Act 4 and parts of Act 2, as supernatural beckonings. The singing in Act 1 is religious observance by the Saxons, ending with their heroic afterlife in Valhalla. The protagonists are actors, as a great deal of King Arthur consists of spoken text. This was normal practice in 17th century English opera. King Arthur contains some of Purcell's most lyrical music, using adventurous harmonies for the day.

Brass Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028133 Composed by Arwyn Bailey. Christian,Gospel,Jewish,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 113 pages. Galactic Publishers Limited #3382201. Published by Galactic Publishers Limited (A0.1028133). Hope PrevailsThe composition consists of six movements and is for a Brass Quintet with guest instrumentalists of Oboe, Violin, Viola and Soprano voice. The piece explores the moods that many encounter as they go through life from loneliness through to elation. the composers brother experienced these extreme emotions and it resulted in him taking his own life. This piece is dedicated to his memory. The MP3 contains a very short extract from each movement that is a direct download from computer composition software and is therefore not of great quality. The composer is looking for a group to record this piece. Please get in touch if you wish to be part fo a collaborative project perhaps as a school, college, university or other group. The Struggle of the night - 4:09 in length:The first movement commences with sonorous chord sequences and quickly moves to a lively section. The piece incorporates the tune of the Welsh National Anthem along with the hymn tune Cwm Rhondda. The movement moves between the despair and loneliness of the night that one can feel, even when sleeping next to a close partner, and the racing desperation of the mind, whereby patriotic affiliations will calm the soul at these times. the movement finishes with the tune of Land of my father's resonating but even this is of no comfort, and the troubled mind lies awake and the movement finishes with a flurry of discord. The Solitude - 5.34 in length:The movement begins with a haunting melody led by the Oboe. the Horn soon joins in as do other instruments of the quintet. A simple Gregorian type rhythm and chant passes through the quintet with the Oboe leading the movement.Crescendos and attacked notes give the piece a rise and fall showing the mood of the soul that alternates between a calm and a peak of mood as sleep is hard to come by and a restless state is invoked. It appears that the oboe will be leading the soul into peace yet, at the last moment, the quintet joins in with chords of attack and crescendo followed by a sharp diminuendo to end the piece. The soul has sought solace, yet, all they find is loneliness.Brad's Broadcast - 3:01 in length:The restless soul awakes after a restless night. The world is full of voices, advice, motivation and answers. In this lively movement, the soul searches for solace and finds sense from some sources, yet, the cacophony of contrary advice and the nature of some disciples of business and life coaches becomes confusing. there are some real gems of advice available, but, the noise of others drowns out the sense and sanity. The soul manages to find some humour in the forums and media, they smile, but the relief is short lived. The movement ends with all voices descending away in a glissando and silence is restored.By His Own Hand - 4:26 in length:This movement reflects the desperation of the soul. they have sought solace, humour has passed them by, they do not feel that they can continue to live. The piece starts with a cadenza played by a viola. A violin soon duets in this Jewish styled lament.Throughout the movement the brass are spartan, reflecting the confusion of the soul. The ability to cling onto the world and to continue living is a losing battle. The waves of the lament increase in their presence, but not velocity, for the depressed souul is reaching the point of no return and of no choice. They will soon depart from the world by their own hand. The end ofthe movement is a descent and a unifying discordant sound as the soul leaves.Dreaming of Heaven - 2:31 in length:The soul is now rising and an ancient Celtic tune accompanies the soul in the form of a Soprano voice singing words of hope and light. The soul's path is lit and the ancient bell of.

Alto Saxophone Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755094 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 10 pages. Sy Brandon #3381815. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755094). Based on Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea I. A Shifting Reef – This movement depicts the Nautilus as an unknown phenomenon that is a threat to navigation. Some mariners thought it was a sea monster and others thought it was a shifting reef. No one could conceive that it was a boat capable of traveling under water. The music is ever changing throughout this movement. It constantly shifts tonality, melodic ideas, and rhythmic placement of motives. Although some ideas repeat, they are transformed by combining them in different patterns with other previously stated ideas. II. A Walk at the Bottom of the Sea Through a Submarine Forest – Circular breathing is used at the beginning and the end of this movement to represent an undersea walk. The musical material appears in reverse at the end representing a return to the Nautilus. The lighter middle section represents walking over a more rocky terrain. The multiphonics symbolize the wonders of the submarine forest. III. The Giant Squids – The giant squids have surrounded the Nautilus and have caused the propeller to jam. In order to free themselves, Captain Nemo, his crew, Professor Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned Land do battle with the squids. This energetic scherzo reflects on the dangers of the battle. Several screams are heard as the squids entangle Ned Land and other crewmembers. The short multiphonics and syncopations represent the men chopping away and the arms of the squid. At the end, the Nautilus finally frees itself after the loss of one life. IV. Trapped Near the South Pole – After discovering the South Pole, the Nautilus is returning to open waters when it is caught between the polar icecap and iceberg that flips over. The tremolos reflect the doom of the Nautilus as only two days of air supply remain. The only means of escape is to chop through the ice below the Nautilus. The staccato notes represent the crew members hacking away at the ice. When that fails, Captain Nemo tries to melt the ice by expelling hot water from the Nautilus. This is represented by the saxophonist blowing air through the saxophone and wiggling the keys. A sense of doom returns that is followed by a final attempt of the Nautilus to crash through the remaining ice. A triumphant ending reflects the success of this attempt. V. The Maelstrom – As Professor Aronnax, Conseil, and Ned Land attempt their escape from the Nautilus, the ship enters the feared maelstrom, a vortex off the coast of Norway where no ship has escaped. The swirling waters are represented by the triplet passages and the escape by the duplet passages. An epilogue using the doom music of the previous movement suggests the end of the Nautilus but a brief return to a slower version of the Shifting Reef motive perhaps suggests otherwise

Celtic,Contest,Festival,Folk,Historic,Irish,Multicultural,World. 14 pages. Stella ter Hart #749496. Published by Stella ter Hart (A0.1163839). A new, exciting arrangement for SSAA choir of this much loved Scottish folk song. Stirring, powerful, harmonically rich and innovative, Skye Boat Song arranged by Stella ter Hart is perfect for advanced high school choirs, community and professional choirs. The words behind this well-known song carry significant historical significance. The piece is actually not just a isn't that a lovely tune folksong. The familiar main chorus Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing... is repeated between the four verses which tell the story of the brutal battle of Culloden in Scotland and the end of the Highland way of life. The accompanying violin and piano are characters in their own right and use word painting to highlight the emotional text. Scottish snare adds drama! The vocal writing uses different effects to ensure each verse has its own impact and expression. Sure to be a favourite with intermediate and higher level treble choirs!Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing. Onward! the sailors cry. Carry the lad that is born to be King over the sea to Skye. Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar. Thunder clouds rend the air. Baffled our foes stand by the shore. Follow they do not dare. Though the waves leap soft shall ye sleep ocean's a royal bed. Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep watch by your weary head. Many's the lad fought on that day. Well the claymore did wield. When the night came silently lay Dead in Culloden's field. Burned are our homes. Exile and death scatter the loyal men. Yet e'er the sword cools in the sheath Charlie will come again. Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing. Onward! the sailor’s cry. Carry the lad that is born to be King over the sea to Skye.

Percussion Solo,Snare Drum - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1507077 Composed by David R. Peoples. 21st Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 10 pages. Bluesilhouettes Music #1082465. Published by Bluesilhouettes Music (A0.1507077). The Ballad of Tad Sims is a programmatic multi-movement work. During the American Civil War, the drummer was a vital part of the military. They kept everyone in line and communicated orders from military leadership. Most were very young and many accounts speak to their shortness as an assett on the battle field (bullets fired tended to go higher). This piece is also part of a longer collection of works connection the final year of Abraham Lincoln’s life (and a call to one of his children by using the name Tad - not that Tad was a drummer during the war).Movement 1, Campfire Tales with the Men, sets up an imiganary tale of the drummer entertaining soldiers hanging around a campfire. Movement 2, They Shot the Fife Player (RIP Fancy Billy), reflects on the realities of war and losing friends. Movement 3, 3. Betallion Joy with Salty Sixteenths (the Almost Crazy Army), imagines the interplay between a drummer with the tree line on an open battlefield - with tons of echoes and having the drums interactive with those delayed performances.

Arranged for Clarinet Quintet & optional drumset, "Watermelon Man" is a jazz standard written by Herbie Hancock, first released on his debut album, Takin' Off (1962), in a grooving hard bop version that featured improvisations by Freddie Hubbard and Dexter Gordon.

A single of the tune reached the Top 100 of the pop charts. Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaría released the tune as a latin pop single the next year on Battle Records, where it became a surprise hit, reaching #10 on the pop charts. Santamaría's recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Hancock radically re-worked the tune, combining elements of funk, for the album Head Hunters (1973).

Hancock's first version was released as a grooving hard bop record, and featured improvisations by Freddie Hubbard and Dexter Gordon. The popularity of the piece, due primarily to Mongo Santamaría, paid Hancock's bills for five or six years. Hancock did not feel the composition was a sellout however, describing that structurally, it was one of his strongest pieces due to its almost mathematical balance.

The form is a sixteen bar blues. Recalling the piece, Hancock said, "I remember the cry of the watermelon man making the rounds through the back streets and alleys of Chicago. The wheels of his wagon beat out the rhythm on the cobblestones." The tune, based on a bluesy piano riff, drew on elements of R&B, soul jazz and bebop, all combined into a pop hook. Hancock joined bassist Butch Warren and drummer Billy Higgins in the rhythm section, with Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and Dexter Gordon on tenor saxophone. Hancock's chordal work draws from the gospel tradition, while he builds his solo on repeated riffs and trilled figures.

Hancock filled in for pianist Chick Corea in Mongo Santamaría's band one weekend at a nightclub in The Bronx when Corea gave notice that he was leaving. Hancock played the tune for Santamaría at friend Donald Byrd's urging. Santamaría started accompanying him on his congas, then his band joined in, and the small audience slowly got up from their tables and started dancing, laughing and having a great time. Santamaría later asked Hancock if he could record the tune. On December 17, 1962, Mongo Santamaría recorded a three-minute version, suitable for radio, where he joined timbalero Francisco "Kako" Baster in a cha-cha beat, while drummer Ray Lucas performed a backbeat. Santamaría included the track on his album Watermelon Man (1962). Santamaría's recording is sometimes considered the beginning of Latin boogaloo, a fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with those of R&B

Hancock re-recorded the tune for Head Hunters (1973), combining synthesizers with a Sly Stone and James Brown funk influence, adding an eight-bar section. Hancock described his composition "Chameleon", also from Head Hunters, to Down Beat magazine in 1979: "In the popular forms of funk, which I've been trying to get into, the attention is on the rhythmic interplay between different instruments. The part the Clavinet plays has to fit with the part the drums play and the line the bass plays and the line that the guitar plays. It's almost like African drummers where seven drummers play different parts"; "Watermelon Man" shares a similar construction. A live version was released on the double LP Flood (1975), recorded in Japan.

On the intro and outro of the tune, percussionist Bill Summers blows into beer bottles imitating hindewhu, a style of singing/whistle-playing found in Pygmy music of Central Africa. Hancock and Summers were struck by the sound, which they heard on the ethnomusicology LP, The Music of the Ba-Benzélé Pygmies (1966), by Simha Arom and Geneviève Taurelle.

This version was often featured on The Weather Channel's Local on the 8s segments.

The tune is a jazz standard and has been recorded over two hundred times. Hancock's recording has been sampled in "1-900-LL-Cool-J" from Walking with a Panther (1989) by LL Cool J, "Open Your Eyes" from Organized Konfusion (1991) by Organized Konfusion, "Smoke Some Kill" from Smoke Some Kill (1988) by Schoolly D, and "Pocket Full of Furl" from Uptown 4 Life (1996) by U.N.L.V. In 2003, pianist David Benoit covered the song from his album Right Here, Right Now.

A live and funky performance at the 1999 Montreux Jazz Festival Casino Lights '99 featured Fourplay, George Duke, Boney James and Kirk Whalum trading choruses, and Rick Braun.Arranged for Clarinet Quintet & optional drumset, "Watermelon Man" is a jazz standard written by Herbie Hancock, first released on his debut album, Takin' Off (1962), in a grooving hard bop version that featured improvisations by Freddie Hubbard and Dexter Gordon.

A single of the tune reached the Top 100 of the pop charts.
