Japanese Folksongs for the Small Harp contains 23 Japanese folk songs and lullabies taken from folksongs and Koto literature including the popular ?Sakura? transcribed from Kototablature and adapted for the large Lever Harp. The arrangements are appropriate for a smalllever harp with 1 octave below middle C and tuned to Eb or C. Songsin two keys are noted with an * in Contents. Thesongs are very accessible and appropriate for mid-beginner to intermediateplayers with limited or easy lever changes and endeavor to remain true to thesound of the Koto zither. Some of thesongs in the book include both an easy and intermediate arrangement.

Gustav Holst - Folksongs of Hampshire England . In the early 1900's there was great interest in collecting and preserving the folk songs of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Equipped with their newly invented recording devices, people such as Cecil Sharp, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst would travel into the country-side to record, or notate songs being sung. They would frequently use these songs in their own compositions. Holst's music in particular is filled with those songs and his two suites for band are especially valued by wind bands around the world. This group of four songs was arranged for voice and piano by Holst and set for woodwind choir by John Gibson. The songs are 1. Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low 2. Bedlam City 3. The Irish Girl 4. Young Reilly. The instrumentation is the standard group of woodwinds found in a band piece: piccolo, flutes. oboes, bassoons, clarinets, bass clarinets, alto and tenor saxes, and baritone sax.

The arrangements can also be played with an additional second part.

This sheet music collection of 20 folk songs is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers� on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers� keep a steady beat with three-note chords. For each song, there is a combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-staff score for each individual part. A note and chord reference chart is also provided for each song.

The songs in this digital book are ordered by difficulty with the easiest songs presented first. The songs progressively incorporate more challenging rhythms, some requiring rapid chord changes. Many of the songs include two verses. The first verse is ?easy? with fewer notes. The second verse is ?intermediate? and expands the melody by adding more notes (sometimes including harmony notes). If you want to learn (practice) only the ?easy? verse, an optional ending is provided or it can be skipped to perform the two verses together.

Though this sheet music is notated for Handbells and Boomwhackers�, these arrangements are playable by any 13-note, C to C chromatic scale (one octave) instrument such as a xylophone or glockenspiel. The melody could also be played by a recorder.

This set of scores uses colored noteheads corresponding to the Boomwhackers� color scheme. If you have a set of bells or tubes with a different color scheme, ?Chroma-Notes Stick Ons? can be purchased and applied so the instruments match the Boomwhackers� color scheme. This set of scores is also available (separate purchase) in black and white which will print clearer if you do not have access to a color printer.

Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are full color and easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. Lyrics and chord names are provided as well to aid in the learning and teaching of this song.

The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two or three notes. For beginners, it is best to assign one or two notes to each person. Instrument assignment suggestions are provided for each song.

Other suggestions and uses:
* have both parts played by bells or both parts played using only Boomwhackers�
* form a choir using multiple sets of bells and/or Boomwhackers� (this would amplify the sound and allow more people to participate)

Skye Boat Song is one of my favoryte folk songs from the British Isles. "Skye" refers to the Island of Skye, a large island off the northwest coast os Scotland. There are several texts to this song; all refer, more or less, to an uprising of Scottish dissidents against the English is 1745-46. After their defeat, they fled to the Island of Skye. The text used here by the poet Robert Louis Stevenson. Scholars attribute the first half of the melody to an old se chantey and suspect thea the second half may have benn written by Annie MacLeod.

This arrangement, featuring a solo Soprano and SSA choir with Piano accompaniment, reharmonizes the traditional folk song with a contemporary twist. This arrangement would work well for any a cappella high school, college, or community choir looking for modern arrangements of traditional folk songs.

The popularity of Six English Folk Songs for Easy Guitar inspired this new collection of folk songs. Each song arrangement begins with a simple setting and is followed by at least one variation. Note that some of the variations are a little more difficult, though none are higher than lower intermediate. The songs are: Spanish Ladies, The Keys of Canterbury, Searching for Lambs (a different version to the one in the first collection), The Truth from Above, The Trees They Grow So High, Dabbling in the Dew.

The 11 songs in this collection of mixed-level piano duets (for 1 piano, 4 hands) are arranged for a beginning student to play the PRIMO while the teacher, parent, or an intermediate student plays the SECONDO. All notes in the PRIMO are played singly with the hands in one position centered around middle C and then played one octave higher.

Each song is presented in two formats: on a grand staff (a combined score with both piano parts on each page) plus the alternate format with the PRIMO and SECONDO on separate pages.

Most of the songs are written in the key of C major and do not require using flats or sharps. However, there are a few songs in the key of G major (1 sharp) or F major (1 flat). These songs provide practice playing notes on the black keys (either an F-sharp for the key of G major or a B-flat for the key of F major).

These fun-to-learn arrangements are a welcome addition to the piano repertoire for beginning students and suitable for recitals or just some family fun around the piano during the holiday season. Lady Maisry is Child ballad 65, first published in 1860, but much older. The melody is in the Aeolian mode. The audio sample is the Intro, Solo, Variations and Coda. The first variation, which is contrapuntal in style, is best suited to a solo ukulele performance. The second would make a good solo between verses of the song, though it is more difficult as it uses higher positions. The arrangement is for ukulele with re-entrant GCEA tuning.

"My Grandfather's Clock" was often played in Britain on Children's Favourites and during that period was recorded by the Radio Revellers. In the United States, a version, without the last stanza of lyrics, was on an extended-play 45 rpm record on the Peter Pan label (the other song on that side was The Syncopated Clock, and the flip side had The Arkansas Traveler and Red River Valley). Johnny Cash covered the song on his 1959 album Songs of Our Soil. Evelyn Knight recorded the song for Decca Records. Also in 1959, it was included on The Four Lads' album, Swing Along. Other versions became popular in other countries; it is well known to many generations in Japan, with a cover by singer Ken Hirai becoming massively popular in 2002. This easy piano piece is perfect for piano recitals and school performances. Performance Time Approx. 1 minute 30 seconds.
