Tuba, Euphonium, Tuba Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Glenn Miller. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, Jazz, Swing, Old-time. Score, Set of Parts. 8 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Moonlight Serenade" arranged here for Tuba Quintet, is an American popular song composed by Glenn Miller with subsequent lyrics by Mitchell Parish. It was an immediate phenomenon when first released in May 1939 as an instrumental arrangement and was adopted as Miller’s signature tune. In 1991, Miller’s recording of "Moonlight Serenade" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.<br> <br> The song, recorded on April 4, 1939 on RCA Bluebird, was a Top Ten hit on the U.S. pop charts in 1939, reaching number three on the Billboard charts, where it stayed for fifteen weeks. It was the number 5 top pop hit of 1939 in the Billboard year-end tally. Glenn Miller had five records in the top 20 songs of 1939 on Billboard′s list.<br> <br> In the UK, "Moonlight Serenade" was released as the A-side of a 78 on His Master’s Voice, with "American Patrol" as the B-side. The recording reached number twelve in the UK in March 1954, staying on the chart for one week. In a medley with "Little Brown Jug" and "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade" reached number thirteen on the UK charts in January 1976, in a chart run of eight weeks.<br> <br> The recording was also issued as a V-Disc, No. 39A, in November 1943.<br> <br> The recording used a clarinet-led saxophone section, which is widely considered[citation needed] the classic Glenn Miller style. Miller studied the Schillinger technique with Joseph Schillinger, who is credited with helping Miller create the "Miller sound", and under whose tutelage he himself composed "Moonlight Serenade".<br> <br> The song evolved from a 1935 version entitled "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep", with music by Glenn Miller and lyrics by Eddie Heyman to a version called "Gone with the Dawn" with lyrics by George Simon, and "The Wind in the Trees" with lyrics by Mitchell Parish. In his biography of Glenn Miller, George T. Simon recounted how vocalist Al Bowlly of the Ray Noble Orchestra sang him the Eddie Heyman lyrics to the Glenn Miller music of "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep" in 1935. The Noble Orchestra never recorded the song. Finally it ended up as "Moonlight Serenade" because Robbins Music bought the music and learned that Miller was recording a cover of "Sunrise Serenade", a Frankie Carle associated song, for RCA Victor. They thought "Moonlight" would be a natural association for "Sunrise".<br> <br> "Now I Lay Me Down to Weep" was composed in 1935 with lyrics by Eddie Heyman and music by Glenn Miller. After "Moonlight Serenade", originally released solely as an instrumental, became a smash hit in 1939, Mitchell Parish wrote new lyrics for the music under that title.<br> <br> A notable vocal version can be found on Frank Sinatra’s Moonlight Sinatra released in 1965, which also contains "Moon Love", "Moonlight Becomes You", and "Oh, You Crazy Moon", which were recorded by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. "Moonlight Serenade" can also be found on Nothing But the Best, a 2008 Frank Sinatra greatest hits compilation by Reprise, on My Way: The Best of Frank Sinatra from 1997 by Warner Bros., and the Frank Sinatra compilation Greatest Love Songs from 2002. Frank Sinatra also released the song as part of an 7" EP 33RPM single in 1966, Reprise SR1018. The song also appeared on the 2015 centennial collection Ultimate Sinatra. In 1939, Count Basie and His Orchestra recorded one of the earliest versions to feature the lyrics added by Mitchell Parish which was released as a 78 single, Vocalion 5036.<br> <br> "Moonlight Serenade" has been covered by Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, The Airmen of Note of the U.S. Air Force with Air Force Strings, Charlie Haden, Marc Reift, Chet Baker with The Mariachi Brass in 1966, Santo and Johnny, Thelma Houston, Carol Burnett, Toots Thielemans, Deodato, who reached number 18 on the Billboard Easy Listening Chart, Count Basie and his Orchestra with vocals by Helen Humes in 1939, Benny Goodman and his Orchestra, Cab Calloway, The Modernaires, Gene Krupa and his Orchestra, Freddy Martin and his Orchestra, Bert Kaempfert, Ray Conniff, Mina, Dick Todd on RCA Bluebird, Geoff Love and His Orchestra, Lloyd Gregory on solo guitar, Dick Hyman, Maxwell Davis and his Orchestra, Tony Evans, Los Indios Tabajaras, David Rose, Richard Himber, Fi Dells Quartet, Waikikis, The Universal-International Orchestra conducted by Joseph Gershenson, Oleg Lundstrom, Charlie Byrd, Taco, Alix Combelle, Richard Vaughn, Lisa Ono, Eddie Maynard, Simone Kopmajer, Hamburg Philharmonia, Frankie Capp, Dave, Robert Banks Trio, Karel Vlach, Transatlantic Swing Band, the Frankie Condon Orchestra, The Romantic Strings, Paul Mauriat, Tommy Leonetti, Johnny Desmond, the Boston Pops under Arthur Fiedler, John Williams, and Keith Lockhart, Charlie Calello Orchestra, J.P. Can any other record match ’Moonlight Serenade’ for its ability to induce a Pavlovian slobber in so many for so long?" (The New Yorker, May 24, 2004).<br> <br> "Moonlight Serenade" released as V-Disc 39A, VP 75, Theme Song, by the U.S. War Department in November 1943. In November 1939, Miller had a 15-minute radio series on CBS called Moonlight Serenade that ran three times a week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:00 PM Eastern Time (shifting to 7:15 PM in May 1942), until September 1942, sponsored by Chesterfield.<br> <br> Wartime release:<br> <br> The 1939 RCA Victor studio recording of "Moonlight Serenade" was released by the U.S. War Department as V-Disc 39A, VP 75, Theme Song, in November, 1943. The recording was also released on the Navy V-Disc No. 160A. A V-Disc test pressing of a recording of the song from November 17, 1945 by the AAF Band was made but the disc was not issued. A new recording by Glenn Miller with the American Band of the Allied Expeditionary Forces was broadcast to Germany in 1944 on the radio program The Wehrmacht Hour.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? Program note: My love affair with the city of Rome dates back to the year 1986-87 when I spent just under eleven months at the American Academy in Rome on a Rome Prize Fellowship. During that Fellowship year I was very much inspired by the beauty and culture of the Eternal City, which resulted in a number of works that continue to resonate with me: Twenty-nine Fireflies Book II for solo piano; Concertino for trumpet, timpani and strings; Apples … six dreams by Richard Kenney; String Quartet No 5 … Four Birthdays; and Chôrinhos … opus 38. Since 1997 my wife, Kristin Beckwith, and I have returned to the American Academy in Rome almost every year. I would compose in the morning and then my wife and I would go to our usual haunt at Bar G. for cappuccini and cornetti. And then we’d go to the local bakery and street markets and buy stuff for lunch. In the afternoon we would wander into the city to go shopping and sight-seeing. In the evenings we would dine at one of our favorite local trattorias. Life could not be better in Rome. Musically speaking, several important works in my portfolio had their beginnings during these sojourns at the Academy , among them Yo Picasso, Flauta Carioca, Mass for the Holy Year 2000, Symphony No. 5 … Utopia Parkway, Twenty-nine Fireflies Books IV & V, and Piano Concerto … Mozartiana. Just before the 2008 recession, clarinetist extraordinaire Jonathan Cohler asked me to write a symphony for the inaugural concert of a new orchestra he was planning to create. I came up with Symphony No. 7 … Roman Holidays, my give back to the city of Rome – a compendium of favorite places that continue to live in my thoughts and musings. Although the work is heard in four movements, it is actually divided into seven sections, as in the seven hills of Rome. 1. Prelude: Fontana Paola and the panoramic view of the city of Rome from that vantage point. 2. First interlude: La Befana festivities at Piazza Navona. The Protestant Cemetery in Testaccio at night under a full moon. 3. Second interlude: Fontana delle Tartughe in the Jewish Ghetto. Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne at the Galleria Borghese. 4. Third interlude: Bernini’s Beata Ludovica Albertoni in Trastevere. The Spanish Steps and the view of Rome from the French Academy at Villa Medici. NB: Unfortunately, thanks to the recession, Roman Holidays never saw the light of day. This year (2013) I decided to revisit the work, which lay dormant for 5 five years, and saw that it could use a little tweaking. The new version is essentially the same, musically speaking. I reduced the orchestration a bit (two horns instead of four, and two trumpets instead of three) and added more heft to the lower brass. I completely rewrote the tune for the floating foreign ghosts at the Protestant Cemetery. I also shortened the work by about three minutes by cutting some repeats. Two Scenes from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám (Trio for Bb Clarinet, Violin and Piano)

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208741 Composed by Adam Lenhart. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 33 pages. Adam Lenhart #806841. Published by Adam Lenhart (A0.1208741). Introduction to The Rubáiyát of Omar KhayyámThe Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is a Persian poetry collection first put together in 1460 in Shiraz.  It consists of quatrains, four-line poems, with a set of unconventional themes.  The poetry is irreligious and questions the afterlife and God's providence.  It shows keen awareness of the shortness of life and the finality of death. It advises therefore that every fleeting moment of every day should be savored, with wine, lovers and song. The combination of a serious philosophy of life and a carefree attitude has made the poetry popular for centuries.  In 1859, Edward FitzGerald brought out a loose English translation that took the world by storm.  It became the most beloved and widely known poem in the English language for decades until its popularity finally faded in the late twentieth century. Although they were attributed to the great mathematician and astronomer, Omar Khayyam (d. 1131), the poems were by many anonymous hands, and he was just a frame author, akin to Scheherezade in the Arabian Nights.- Dr. Juan Cole, Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of MichiganAbout the CompositionTwo Scenes from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám explores and embodies two of the main themes that carry throughout the quatrains of the poem collection. In FitzGerald's translation, the quatrains follow a day to night cycle. The two movements reflect this by starting off with an abrupt wake up section and ending the piece with a nocturne.  The first movement, Wine, celebrates the camaraderie, joy and chaos that comes through the physical joy of being with friends. The clarinet, violin and piano interact in a conversational way, talking, laughing, and insulting one another in their own independent lines. The second movement is entitled Intimacy and explores the emotional joy of connecting with one another. The movement is set in a waltz style dance and draws influence from Chopin, Liszt and other romantic era composers. This is juxtaposed by youthful and energetic phrases so that the piece embodies all forms of love: young love, years of marriage and even friendship. Each movement has a sense of urgency and density which is present in the rubá'iyát as well, expressing to the reader that our time on Earth is so short and to make the most of each day.---------------------------Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition, and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Some of his recent projects include collaborations with individuals from the University of Michigan Chamber Music, History, and Poetry departments.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869118 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,Latin. Score and parts. 16 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #1914305. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869118). Morango ... almost a tango (1983) is the most popular piece of music from my portfolio of over 150 works!!! It is amazing that the work was conceived thirty years ago!!! Originally, it was just a 32-bar jazz tune I performed every Sunday night with the Moon Unit at the 1369 Jazz Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1980-1984. The string quartet version, although written for the Kronos Quartet, was premiered at Concert X by the Composers in Red Sneakers in Sanders Theater, Cambridge, Massachusetts, on July 21, 1983. The Red Sneakers String Quartet comprised of Thal Aylward, Melissa Howe, Frank Grimes and Sandy Kiefer. Richard Buell reported in the Boston Globe a few days later that the doleful Morango ... almost a tango got a lot of mileage out of a stubborn, almost unchanging cello line and the elaborations above it. The original program note read, Last summer in Vermont I met Gustavo Moretto, an Argentine composer, who taught me the finer and more beautiful aspects of the Tango. In my modest way, as someone looking in from the outside, I created Morango ... almost a tango - a bastardized version of the 'real thing.' Morango ... is also intrinsically connected to Kate Moran, a sometimes painter ... to whom it is dedicated. The work is played con sordino throughout. I hope the sirens next door don't intrude too much. But then again, John Cage would be delighted. Eventually, the Kronos got around to performing it on tour in Europe in 1986. When they played it as an encore in Italy at the American Academy in Rome, Mya Tannenbaum of the Corriere Della Sera wrote, Non sono mancati i bis. Un richiamo al sex appeal del vecchio tango da parte di un giovane «premio Roma», Tom Lee. Soon after, back in the States, the Kronos performed it at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. John Rockwell wrote in the New York Times, ... a soulfully beautiful score by Thomas Oboe Lee. Three months later the Kronos recorded it on their Nonesuch CD, White Man Sleeps. Many other string quartets, both here and abroad, have since added the work to their repertory. The Lydian String Quartet, especially, have taken the work on their concert tours in the United States, Europe and the former Soviet Union. It appears on a CD recorded by the Lyds in Moscow on MCA Classics. As interest in the work grew, other ensembles have requested arrangements of Morango ... There are now three other versions of the work: one for big band jazz ensemble by Ken Schaphorst, another for string orchestra commissioned by Aram Gharabekian and Sinfonova, and the third for violin and piano commissioned by the Paul Chou-Paul Salerni Duo. Of the string orchestra version, Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe wrote, Lee's piece, Morango ... almost a tango, is a transcription of atmospheric and elegant music originally composed for string quartet; it is as sultry as Faith Domergue in a film noir, and it steams. Piano,Viola - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587634 Composed by Various. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 24 pages. David McKeown #4594711. Published by David McKeown (A0.587634). The Wedding Album is a collection of four beautiful and timeless wedding favourites, arranged for Solo Viola with Piano accompaniment. Whether for that Special Day, for a recital, or for your own entertainment, these arrangements are ideal for players at an intermediate level or higher. The 24-page file includes the piano accompaniments and the separate solo parts at the end. Ave Maria was written by Franz Schubert in 1825 as the sixth song in his song cycle based on Walter Scott’s poem The Lady of the Lake. It is perhaps the best known of all his melodies, adapted for piano by Franz Liszt, and for orchestra many times since. It is often sung with the Latin lyrics of the Catholic hymn of the same name and has been heard everywhere from the Disney movie Fantasia to the funeral of J.F. Kennedy. The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as Here Comes the Bride. Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since. The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since. These four arrangements are also available as single titles for $3.99 each. Clarinet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587626 Composed by Various. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 24 pages. David McKeown #4594689. Published by David McKeown (A0.587626). The Wedding Album is a collection of four beautiful and timeless wedding favourites, arranged for Solo Clarinet with Piano accompaniment. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1344909 Composed by Billy Rose, E.Y. Yip Harburg, and Harold Arlen. Arranged by Phyllis Love. Jazz,Standards. Score. 3 pages. Phyllis Love #923432. Published by Phyllis Love (A0.1344909). It's Only A Paper Moon for intermediate pianoHarold Arlen wrote this swing tune in 1932. Here is an upbeat arrangement where there's a rubato intro, which then proceeds to a very rhythmic, finger snapping beat, and actually sounds a lot harder than it is to play!Accessible enough for any intermediate performer, yet incredibly rewarding for even the most accomplished pianist. Phyllis Love's instrumental arrangements for jazz piano remain true to the original melodies, with inventive harmonies and dynamic rhythmic patterns perfect for solo players! Each is a tasty addition to your show set, whether it's a classic show tune or a Standard from the Great American Songbook.Check out these other Phyllis Love arrangements for students of jazz piano at the intermediate level:The Breeze and IThe Last Time I Saw ParisYesterdaysYou and the Night and the MusicWe'll Be Together AgainA Nightingale Sang In Berkeley SquareFalling In Love With LoveFor All We KnowI Thought About YouI'll Remember AprilI'm Old FashionedIt Might As Well Be SpringLove Walked InMona LisaOn the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa FeOnce In A WhileSummertimeSurrey With The Fringe On TopTenderlyThat Old Black MagicPhyllis Love is a professional jazz pianist in the New York City area who's appeared at storied venues including Windows on the World, Gramercy Park Hotel, and Mama Leone's. String Orchestra - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1153136 Composed by Ron Flintjer. Folk,Historic,Traditional. Score and Parts. 10 pages. Ron Flintjer #753377. Published by Ron Flintjer (A0.1153136). It's the end of a long day in the Old West. The cowboys have unsaddled their horses, lit the campfire, and can't wait for grub to be served! After chow, they lay on their bedrolls, reminiscing about their hometowns, their adventures, and maybe the gal they left behind. When it's time to settle in for the night, they watch the clear skies above and maybe point out a shooting star or two. Then it's time for sleep, before another hard day on the trail arrives too soon. Written it 3/4 time, The Cowboy Waltz is a relaxing, comfortable piece for Beginning String Orchestra. Watch out! You might just catch some of your audience snoozing - along with the cowboys - afterwards! This chart has three part harmony, as the second violin and viola play the same part as do the cello and string bass. Your first violin is on his or her own!

Kennedy. <br> <br> The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as “Here Comes the Bride”. Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since.<br> <br> The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on the“trumpet stop”. <br> <br> Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.

Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1305308 By Journey. By Jonathan Cain. Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Pop,Rock,Wedding. 12 pages. Sarah Cellobat Chaffee #894747. Published by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee (A0.1305308). Faithfully, written by Journey's keyboard player Jonathan Cain, has quite the unusual origin story. After writing the lyrics on the tour bus one day, Cain proceeded to get the melody out of a dream that night, and composed the entire song in 30 minutes the following day. Appropriately, the lyrics describe the difficulties of being a musician and living life on the road, but they end with a reassurance to his spouse that he will always remain faithful. Just as quickly as the song was written, it shot to the top of the charts, hitting number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and cementing itself as one of the band's biggest hits. In fact, one magazine even referred to it as the greatest power ballad ever recorded -- so you can't go wrong adding this one to your gig books! Originally written for a wedding ceremony, this Cellobat arrangement for violin and cello duet maintains the soaring melodies, dynamic intensity, and even the epic guitar solo of the original for a chart that will be just as much fun to play as it is to listen to! Rated intermediate; this won't be hard to play, but it will definitely make a big impact. Playable for students and easily sightreadable for professionals.Sarah “Cellobat†Chaffee is an in-demand acoustic & electric cellist and string arranger. Currently, she performs with legendary rock band Aerosmith in their “Deuces Are Wild†residency show, and she is the principal cellist for the Raiders House Band, playing for a crowd of 60,000 at all of the team's home games. She also plays with many other groups including Premiere Wedding Music, Bella Electric Strings, the Femmes Of Rock, and David Perrico’s Pop Strings Orchestra.
