Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: BQ.979-0-50179-021-0 Composed by Sigismund von Neukomm. Edited by Stephen Begley. This edition: softcover. Bisel Classics. Orchestral score. With Text Language: English / German. Opus 19. 163 pages. Published by Bisel Classics - Digital (BQ.979-0-50179-021-0). ISBN 9790501790210.A composer of over 2000 works, this symphony newly restored from the original manuscript, was completed in 1817 during Neukomm's five year stay in Rio de Janeiro and reflects something of the magical landscape of Brazil in its musical forms. The third movement contains a quote from Handel's 'Judas Maccabeus', ''See the conquering hero comes'', better known today as the hymn Thine be the glory, and was probably intended to commemorate the return from exile and the ascension to the throne of the Portuguese sovereign, John VI.

'Jack's Journey'(A new Musical by Adeline Dinsmore and David Catherwood)Piano and vocal score (contains 7 songs plus overture and incidental music) plus Script - $9.50Duration c.40 minutesIdeal for schools, youth groups or adult dramatic/musical companies.Requirements - Narrator, Chorus, (unison/2part) Soloists, Actors, Piano accompanimentOptional - Dancers, orchestral parts for Flute, Clarinet. Trumpet, Horn, Strings, Percussion and Bass/guitar About the Musical A great story about one of the 20th century’s greatest storytellers. Carefully researched, yet full of fun, this entertaining musical tells the story of the early part of CS Lewis' life from the time of his mother's death in 1908 until his arrival as a student at Oxford in 1916. (Throughout his life CS Lewis was always known as Jack) This new work was premiered at the end of 2019 at the annual CS Lewis Festival held in Ireland. (CS Lewis’ birthplace) It proved to be a great success and was very enthusiastically received. Synopsis Jack’s Journey is a whimsical re-imagining of the childhood journeys of CS Lewis - each of the seven songs representing a stop along the way to his eventual career as the writer of the Narnia Chronicles. The story is told through music relating his memories and significant episodes from his schooldays up to his entry into Oxford. Living almost entirely in his imagination as a small boy, the seeds of the world of Narnia are already beginning to grow in his writing and drawings. Little Lea, his childhood home, provides the setting for the early scenes. Following the death of his mother the young Jack has his first experience of school and England. He endures with fortitude the harsh regime of boarding school and begins to recognise the value of friendship, mutual support and the courage that children can show in adversity. He returns to Ireland and to Campbell College – a much more positive experience. Illness brings his attendance at Campbell to an end. Returning to Little Lea, Jack imagines the world of fairies and dwarves, a world beyond our own. He returns to school in England and comes under the influence of a variety of teachers. Expelled from Malvern, Jack next falls under the influence of his great mentor, Professor Kirkpatrick – the model for the Professor of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Jack’s Journey concludes with the anticipated arrival of a great hero, the hero of the first of the Narnian Chronicles, Aslan, the lion. ‘Jack’s Journey’ gives opportunity for young actors, (supported if desired by adults, taking the parts of the grown-ups.) There are short dramatic scenes, plenty of chorus work, opportunity for choreography and many solo spots for vocalists in the songs which are milestones in the story. List of Songs (the sample pages and mp3 file gives a chance to see and hear the first page of most of the songs) 1 Soft through the window 2 Kingdom of Mourne 3 Little Lea 4 Campbell Days - Boy to the left, Boy to the right 5 The Dandy's song 6 The Scholar's song 7 Strength and honour As will be evident from the above, there is plenty of flexibility regarding the scale of the performance. ‘Jack’s Journey’ may be staged using relatively modest outlay – for example, the premiere did not have a set because the venue for the performance was an actual railway station! The piece certainly allows for imaginative approaches to design and staging. In terms of the additional challenges presented by 2020 the length of the musical at 40 minutes helps in delivering a shorter theatrical experience. Also, the fully digital download of all performing materials allows for distribution via email Indeed the whole show could be effectively recorded and presented online as well as in person.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.837492 Composed by Brett L. Wery. Contemporary. Score and parts. 261 pages. Sonata Grendel Publishing #5722157. Published by Sonata Grendel Publishing (A0.837492). Mortals, Gods, and Heroes was commissioned by Andrew Janack for the Maple Avenue Middles School Select Band in Saratoga Springs, NY. The school was doing a curriculum-wide reading project on Greek mythology. It seemed natural to create a wind ensemble suite based on three stories from Greek mythology. Each movement creates a miniature tone poem with clear motifs for each character in the myths. The characters include Athena (who makes a return in the final movement), Arachne, Orpheus, Charon the ferryman, Cerberus the three-headed dog, Sisyphus, Persephone, Eurydice, Perseus, and Medusa. The eleven-minute piece is colorful and inventive with plenty of special techniques in the percussion especially designed for middle school students. Mortals, Gods, and Heroes is in three movements: I. Arachne’s Web II. The Passage of OrpheusIII. Perseus and the Gorgon The score is formatted for 8.5 X 14 (legal) size paper and is 57 pages. The parts are formatted for 8.5 X 11 (letter) size paper.

The road, also known as the A93, runs between the towns of Blairgowrie and Braemar, and is considered one of the most challenging and scenic drives in Scotland. The origins of the name Devil's Elbow are unclear, but legend has it that the devil himself had a hand in shaping the road. According to folklore, the devil was tasked with creating a road through the hills of the Scottish Highlands, and he chose to build it along the most treacherous and winding path he could find. As he worked, he encountered a particularly difficult section of the road where the hills formed a sharp bend, and he bent the rocks to create a tight hairpin turn that became known as the Devil's Elbow. In reality, the road was likely shaped by centuries of erosion and human activity. The section of road that makes up the Devil's Elbow is part of a larger route that has been used for centuries by traders, farmers, and travelers crossing the Scottish Highlands. The road was improved and expanded over time, and the modern A93 was officially completed in 1932.Despite its treacherous reputation, the Devil's Elbow is a popular destination for tourists and driving enthusiasts. The road offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and the hairpin turn at the Devil's Elbow is considered a particular challenge for drivers and cyclists.Today, the Devil's Elbow remains a beloved part of Scotland's landscape and history, and its legend continues to capture the imaginations of visitors and locals alike. Whether you're a traveler seeking adventure or a history buff looking to explore Scotland's rich cultural heritage, the Devil's Elbow is a must-see destination that will leave a lasting impression.

Theconcerto bears the dedication “for Walter Simmons, a hero for the cause of American music.â€Musicologist Walter Simmons has been an inspirational and passionate advocate for seriousAmerican concert music for nearly his entire life. Through his tireless efforts as author, critic, recordand concert producer, and lecturer, Walter has brought myriad composers and works to muchdeservedattention. The basic musical material for the entire work is presented near the outset, the pitches Eb – D – G –Ab – E. This cell is used throughout the rest of the concerto both motivically, in transformation, andas a harmonic structural device. Its harmonic identity creates the mix of tonal/modal and atonalconstructs that are a preoccupation of my music. The concerto’s title provided the poetic ideabehind the musical development. Though more or less equal with the ensemble in the firstmovement, the piano clearly takes over as leader in the second and third movements as the goaldirectedformal narrative of the movements becomes more obvious. The first movement, Murky Waters, is a free fantasy in which the piano and ensemble “unpack†themusical potential of the basic material. A number of melodic ideas emerge—some lyrical and somedisjunct. A brief coda prepares for the next movement. The second movement, The Forgotten, is a lament led by the piano. The harmonic colors of thepiano’s sustaining sounds interact with the more linear textures of the winds and brass. The third movement, Casting Infinity, is purposeful and structured as a march with trio. The spikymelodic material is treated in a variety of manners (including very tonally within the trio) before areturn of material from the first movement pushes the concerto towards its conclusion.InstrumentationPiccolo2 Flutes2 OboesEnglish Horn2 Clarinets in BbBass Clarinet in Bb2 BassoonsContrabassoon4 Horns in F3 Trumpets in C2 TrombonesTubaTimpaniPercussion (2 players)I: crotales, bass drum, tenor drumII: vibraphone (motor off), suspended cymbal(Percussion II needs one rosined bow.)Solo Piano(The above scoring is exact—with a single player on each part. Small Ensemble Clarinet,Piano,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.775974 Composed by Cason Cooman. Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 48 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2034873. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.775974). Shadowbook (Three Songs in the Night) (2013) for clarinet, tuba, and piano was commissioned by and is dedicated to Kevin and Susan Wass. As the title implies, it is music that possesses a certain dark energy. It evokes not so much a night of tranquility, but rather one of great intensity. The titles of the movements are poetic, not programmatic-each intends to give a sense of the mood that pervades the music. The Bearer of Bad News begins obsessively with re-iterations of a unison pitch. The movement unfolds lyrically outwards from this texture, finally reaching a climax in an intense return of the re-iterations, before a coda brings the energy back down. A Desperate Peace draws from the spirit of fierce lament. It evokes a line from Tecumseh of the Shawnee American Indian tribe: When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home. In Towards Morning an obsessive rhythmic pulse pushes the music forwards towards the coming day. The night’s dark energy, however, is not soon forgotten. The set includes a piano score and parts for Bb clarinet and tuba.

Published by Bright Music Company (A0.964566). This original, 3 movement brass quintet composed by Betsy Bright conjures images of the Wild West. The first movement opens with a nod to the Copland Americana sound, and then quickly dives into an adventurous theme that feels like a hero racing on horseback. Every instrument gets some solo features throughout the movement. The second movement, Lonesome paints the picture of a sorrow that can sink even through the most beautiful desert landscape, casting forlorn shadows in every direction. And finally, the third movement, Rowdy depicts a wild rodeo! This movement is in Rondo form, and with every return of the theme, we have the sensation of another rider bursting through the gate taking a ride on another bucking bronco. This piece is a major crowd pleaser, whether on a standard recital or a pops program. And any individual movement works perfectly for education shows. Every player has great solo features, yet at no point is this piece tiring or physically painful in any way, so it’s super fun to play too!Duration: 8 minutes

The beginning of the history of the origins of the tetralogy is frequently placed in 1848 when Wagner compiled a prose sketch entitled Die Nibelungensage (Erstschrift) [The Nibelung Saga (first draft)] or Die Sage von den Nibelungen (Reinschrift) [The Saga of the Niblelungs (fair copy)] which would suggest that this was already the text for the Ring des Nibelungen, but the actual concept for the tetralogy did not actually evolve until the autumn of 1851. When Wagner first compiled the libretto for the heroic opera Siegfried's Tod [Siegfried's Death] in November 1848 - during his period of employment as Hofkapellmeister[court music director] in Dresden - he was in fact only planning a single opera and continued to adhere to this concept even after his involvement in the failed Dresden uprising in 1849 and subsequent escape to Switzerland. He began with the composition of Siegfried's Tod in the summer of 1850 in Zurich, but soon laid it aside. He returned to the project almost a year later in May 1851 with the idea of a two-part drama: to lend the plot greater conclusiveness, Siegfried's Tod would be preceded by a second opera entitled Der junge Siegfried [The Young Siegfried], subsequently shortened to Siegfried, but this extension was still insufficient to satisfy Wagner's dramatic-dramaturgic aspirations. In November 1851, he began the first text drafts for Das Rheingold and Die Walkure which were followed by the libretti in 1852: Die Walkure was completed in June 1852.<br> <br> The premiere of Die Walkure was held in Munich on 26 June 1870, but without Wagner's specific permission as he did not wish the operas to be performed separately. He held the opinion that Die Walkure was only logical and comprehendible within the context of the complete tetralogy. Wagner had however not only made a present of the autograph score to King Ludwig II of Bavaria who had been his generous benefactor since 1864, but had also sold him the rights to the tetralogy. The king was eager to experience performances of the already finished parts and Wagner was therefore powerless to prevent him from commanding performances of the individual operas. The premiere of Die Walkure within the context of the tetralogy took place in 1876 at the first Bayreuth Festival.<br> <br> (Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword of the new Die Walkure vocal score. translated by Lindsay Chalmers-Gerbracht)German.<br> <br> An important addition to our newly produced orchestral materials is the first publication of vocal scores of Wagner's ten great operas, in every important version, based on the Complete Edition.<br> <br> The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition.<br> For practical use in rehearsal cues and bar numbers throughout.<br> The publisher has secured the services of renewed musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords.<br> The forewords are given in three languages(German, English, French).<br> Uniform and attractive front cover designs with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era underline the series design of the edition.<br> <br> DIE WALKURE<br> <br> In the tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen [The Ring of the Nibelung] which was subtitled by Wagner as A stage festival play for three days and a preliminary evening, Die Walkure [The Valkyrie] forms the first day following Das Rheingold as the preliminary evening. Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533348 Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle, Gaetano Donizetti. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 23 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2348199. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533348). One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in 1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director ofmusic of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series in London. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octave mechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and began touring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the «turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, through China and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It was during this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). He subsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyages were subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection known as The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution. Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, he performed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire Imperial Family. After 1865, nothing more is known about him.Soualle not only performed on the clarinet, saxophone and piano, but also frequently sang during his concerts. He also wrotesongs while he was in London. His opera fantasies are usually written for the Alto saxophone. This particular fantasy usesthemes from the Third and fourth act sung by the hero et heroine which are marked in the score.

English--------The original version of this emigrant song is quite simple: same melody repeats throughout the song. More, the existing vocal arrangements I've heard are quite steady and not so rhythmic. So I tried to add some movement: there is a musical introduction with little lyrics and then we move on to the main theme, where the bass gives rhythm to the main melody.Shortly after, with a Queen-inspired variation coming from Bohemian Rhapsody the score modulates in a close key, to underline the singing of the brothers of the song's sad heroin and immediately after the theme softens to leave room to the sad mother heralding the coming tragedy.A tragedy that is sung immediately afterwards, in minor, and then returns to the main melody until the finale, where after a choral phrase we return to the main theme.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1281978 Composed by John P.W. Hudson. 20th Century,Contest,Festival. Score and Parts. 90 pages. 'Published by John P.W. Hudson #872903. Published by 'Published by John P.W. Hudson (A0.1281978). Premiered June 6th, 2023 by the Killarney Senior Wind Ensemble and Alumni directed by Meagan Lawson, 'Killarney Carnivale' is a programmatic piece describing a small town carnival in rural Manitoba in the early 1930's, spotlighting the family of the town dentist, Dr. Martin McLaren, his wife Irene, and their six girls. 'Killarney Carnivale' describes a fictitious event, but the family is that of the composer, John Hudson. His mother, (second in a family of six girls), as a young teen in Killarney Manitoba, loved playing piano and aspired to be a concert pianist playing her favourite composers in concert halls. Her dreams took a different turn when the family had to move west for Dr. McLaren's health, but she carried with her the melodies she composed and later played to her own children.Picture John Hudson listening to hours of his mother playing piano as a young boy in the early 1950's, immersed in his mother's beautiful music. After her passing in 2010, he longed to hear these beautiful, playful melodies again. His sister Jane Keyes had become a professional piano player and happily took up the task of recreating several of their mother's pieces, which John, now a retired band director, began to transcribe. Inspired by a photograph of the family that very much looked like a carnival booth style photograph, 'Killarney Carnivale' came to life. It opens as the youngest, probably under age two at the time, wakes up. The scene swiftly changes to arrival at the much - anticipated carnival, with all of its magical sights, sounds and heavenly smells of popcorn and treats. First is the carousel, with wooden horses flying about in endless circles with children regaling with laughter. The next is a sideshow tent featuring the exotic dancer Salome, who wiled King Herod, (and probably more than a few in the audience) as her thin, tantalizing veils hinted at her charms. The next tent is dim and displays the wierd and mysterious curiosities from around the world like bearded ladies, dwarfs and the like. The cakewalk is next, with children vying to be the last person sitting as chairs are removed and the music abruptly stops each time. (This section could host a real cakewalk with a few chairs and willing audience participation. Three chairs is suggested.)Finally, the exhausted family drives home in their antique (to us) automobile with the childrens' hair flying in the breeze. One by one, the excited children fall prey to dreamland, and at long last, the exhausted parents flop into bed too.Honouring his mother's short pieces has been a life long dream of Mr. Hudson, and to hear them played by the Killarney Wind Ensemble and Alumni Band was a poignant moment: the return of these melodies to the little town where they first came to life. Many, many thanks to Meagan Lawson, their director, and all of the members of the Killarney band who so very willingly took up the challenge of playing 'Killarney Carnivale'. Their hard work and dedication to this piece is deeply, deeply appreciated.

Small Ensemble Cello,Double Bass,Saxophone,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938331 Composed by Dr Anthony Costandius. Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 72 pages. Anthony Costandius Music #14899. Published by Anthony Costandius Music (A0.938331). A piece for solo Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra. The church was made a cathedral in 1564 when the city was granted its bishopric. The cathedral was built on the site of the Aljama Mosque in the first third of the 14th century. The name of this structure, El Salvador Cathedral, literally means the Cathedral of the Transfiguration. The cathedral has three portals: the Puerta de las Cardenas (Portal of the Chains, 14th century) is in Islamic style, the Puerta de Loreto (mid-15th century) is Gothic, and Puerta de la Anunciación (Portal of the Annunciation, built in 1588 by Juan Inglés), which has a Renaissance-style triumphal arch-shape. Part 1: Introitis. The saxophone mimics a chant based on the metre of the Introitis: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum: aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem (Bedew us, heavens, from above; ye clouds, rain down the Just One. Let the earth be opened up, and produce the Saviour. The intervals 1 (tonic), 5 (dominant), 6 (super-dominant) and 4 (subdominant), based on the year 1564 referred to in the section above, are used as the basis for the harmony progression for the string section. Part 2: Puerta de las Cardenas Acts 12:3–19 says that Peter was put into prison by King Herod, but the night before his trial an angel appeared to him, and told him to leave. Peter's chains fell off, and he followed the angel out of prison, thinking it was a vision (verse 9). The prison doors opened of their own accord, and the angel led Peter into the city. The visit from the angel, release from the chains and the prison, as well as the journey into the city is expressed against the background of the Islamic design of the portal, hence the referral to Arabian rhythms and scales in the music. Part 3: Puerta de Loreto The Puerta de Loreto is of gothic design. Loreto refers to the Italian city of Loreto in the province of Ancona. It is said that the holy house where the Mother Mary lived in Nazareth was translated miraculously to Loreto on December 19, 1294 - more than 700 years ago. The house did not go straight to Loreto, but in the year 1291 it was miraculously transported from Nazareth to the town of Tersatto in Dalmatia (Croatia). The local population, filled with astonishment, did not know how to explain its sudden appearance. Their Bishop, who was gravely ill, now appeared in their midst cured. He had prayed to the Virgin Mary that he might be strong enough to see the prodigy for himself, and the Mother of God appeared to him, surrounded by Angels, saying: My son, you have called for me, and here I am. I came to give you succor and to reveal to you the mystery [of the translation of the Holy House] you desire to know. The holy dwelling is the very house where I was born and raised. It was there that I received the good news brought by the Archangel Gabriel and I conceived the Divine Infant by the operation of the Holy Ghost. It was there that the Word was made flesh... For you to bear witness to all that I am telling you now, you will suddenly be cured and return to full health after the long illness you have borne, so that through you all will believe in this miracle. Part 4: Puerta de la Anunciación The Annunciation is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Jesus, meaning Saviour. Part 5: Exit The work ends with a re-interpretation of the first section, the Introitis. This is to bind the work together, but also to again reflect on the text, as stated: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum: a periatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem, and to comtemplate how that gives meaning to the being, essence and history of the Catedral de Orihuela.

Three songs sung by three supporting characters in the full length musical Roxane of Bergerac Audio for each can be found at www.flippomusic.com/roxane . The pieces include Love is Wasted on the Young - sung by Duenna, The Good Old Days - sung by De Guiche and Almont Tarts - sung by Ragueneau. The first pieces is lyric, flowing ballad in a classical style that is interrupted by a dance section and returns to the original music; the second is a bouncing, humorous , jazzy stride-style piece in which De Guiche complains about the new, polite rules for love; the last is a humorous musical recipie for almond tarts. Roxane is a romantic action-comedy date musical about Roxane's refusal to be merely decorative when it comes to living her life, and this while questing for True Love and her Hero of True Romance. The musical language is a blend of Jazz and Renaissance musical styles that parallels the mash-up of today’s slang with the preciosity (refined speech) of some 16th century Parisians.

Published by Tom Voysey (A0.1431423). The Life And Death Of Amy Pond comes from the closing minutes of Series 5's 'The Pandorica Opens', scoring the apparent victory of the Doctor's greatest adversaries. With his companions in mortal danger (or worse) the Doctor himself is sealed inside the universe's most perfect prison, and unable to help with the incoming end of the universe. With this the audience is left on one of the show's best cliffhangers, leaving us half-way through the finale of the show's triumphant return.Series 5 allowed Murray Gold to prove his expertise at re-inventing the sound of Dr Who, while still retaining core qualities of adventure, danger, huge emotions and even grander scales. The show has evolved, and the music remains world-class. This piece really hammers home the dire ending our heroes find themselves in, enforcing a feeling of helplessness as the world colapses around them.Instrument: PianoLength: Approx 3 minutesDifficulty: Intermediate.

The work then returns to the initial atmosphere followed by a brief coda (which alludes distantly to the character of the second theme).Dal tuo Valentino was composed in Bremen (Germany) from October 31 to November 1, 2019 (with subsequent clarifications and minor modifications). Published by Bisel Classics - Digital (BQ.979-0-50179-709-7). ISBN 9790501797097.The Sonata no. 2 is classical in style and form. The first movement presents itself in sonata-form with a short coda and a longer lyrical second theme that is repeated after the development section. The second movement has a ternary form and a lyrical setting. Whilst the primary theme is rather subdued, even mournful, the middle section appears more heroic and elated and eventually the first theme returns with a triple note variation accompaniment. It is simple to play and rather slow. The third movement is toccata-like, fast, and was inspired indirectly by the great musical lexicographer Nicolas Slonimsky, back in Mitchell's student days at UCLA in 1965.
