His works for the stage are among the most popular and beloved of the Romantic era, including the ballets Coppélia and Sylvia, and the opera Lakmé.Delibes was a pioneer in the use of orchestral color and instrumental effects to enhance the dramatic narrative of his works. His works are often praised for their lyricism, graceful melodies, and colorful orchestrations. His music is considered to be a bridge between the grandiose and romantic works of the French composers before him, such as Gounod and Berlioz, and the more intimate and melodic style of composers like Debussy and Ravel.Delibes’ influence can be heard in the works of later composers such as Stravinsky and Prokofiev, and his music continues to be performed and enjoyed today. His contributions to music history are significant, and his works remain beloved masterpieces of the Romantic era.Léo Delibes' opera Lakmé is an opera in three acts. It was first performed in 1883 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris. The libretto was written by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille. The story is set in British-occupied India and tells the story of a young Indian girl, Lakmé, who is in love with a British officer, Gerald. The opera has been performed in opera houses all over the world and is considered one of Delibes' most popular works.The Duo des Fleurs, composed by French composer Léo Delibes, is a ballet pas de deux from the ballet Lakme, Act I. It is a beloved masterpiece of the Romantic period and is often performed as a standalone piece in many ballet performances. The piece is typically danced by two female ballet dancers and is known for its playful and lighthearted nature. The music consists of a melody that alternates between the two dancers and is often accompanied by a lighthearted waltz. This is the piano trio arrangement of the Phoenix Waltz which was originally written to celebrate all of the musicians who played in the legendary Auchterby Band and the numerous musical line-ups born out of the ashes of that band. The Auchterby Band was a ceilidh band based in Aberdeen, Scotland which usually played fast and furious folky music for Scottish dancing at weddings, parties and various drunken events. The Phoenix Waltz is not actually particularly folky or Scottish in style (more like Jazz) but, nevertheless, works well as a last waltz of the evening. I arranged it for Piano, Violin and Cello for a fundraising concert to raise money for a new piano for our village hall and managed to rope in a couple of fantastic young musicians, through my piano teacher, to compensate for my mediocre piano playing. The piano, at that point, was borrowed and very out of tune, but the concert itself was totally unique and very special. I have included a recording from the concert which I hope you like. On listening to it I feel it is slightly rushed (I was nervous) so relax, take it easy and let it breathe!

José Juventino Policarpo Rosas Cadenas (25 January 1868 - 9 July 1894) was a Mexican composer, violinist, and band leader.Rosas was born in Santa Cruz de Galeana, Guanajuato, in a poor Otomi Native American family. In his youth he did whatever he could related to music, from ringing church bells to playing violin on the street, making music for his living from age 7 on. He used music for his ambitions to better himself, including composing a waltz in exchange for a pair of shoes.He moved to Mexico City and soon became a well known musician and composer. At age 12 he was playing violin in one of the city's most popular dance bands. In his early teens, he worked accompanying well known singer Angela Peralta. Although he applied twice for entrance to the National Music Conservatory and briefly studied there, he was mostly self taught.Rosas led a large orchestra and a brass band that toured internationally.Rosas's best known work is Sobre las Olas or Over the Waves. This classic waltz has often been mistakenly thought by many to be Viennese, and frequently attributed to Johann Strauss II. It was first published by Rosas in 1884 when he was in New Orleans, Louisiana with the popular Mexican band at the World Cotton Centennial World's Fair. (It was later republished in Mexico and Europe in 1888, and 1891; these later years are sometimes incorrectly given as the piece's first publication date.) Rosas died in Surgidero de Batabanó, Cuba.
