The eulogy recounts the life of David and his kingship over Israel that had begun over eighty years prior. A time when there were no kings in Israel except for their God, a time when the Judges governed the people and a time when SAMUEL, an elderly Prophet of God and last Judge, turned his position as Judge over to his two sons. This is a „take another crossroad version of Mozart´s famous Little Night Music, written by Austrian Arranger and Composer Augustin Lehfuss – a wild and funny arrangement for string quartet in a unusual latin style. Everybody knows the triad motive at the beginning of Mozart´s original composition, which reappears several times throughout the piece. The idea was, that the performing quartet, while playing the original work of Mozart – tired of always playing the same classical music – „turns left any time the characteristic motive appears, and switches to the latin version which is sold here. Then it runs wild for a while and enjoys Mozart´s theme in a crazy latin style, bevor, finally disciplinized again, finishes in Mozart´s original ending of his „Little Night Music. From the „turn out of Mozart´s original piece until the original ending the latin arrangement lasts about three minutes . For this arrangement starts with the famous triad motive, it can also be played as a stand alone version, though recognizable for the audience. This melancholy Christmas standard from the 1960’s A Charlie Brown Christmas television special gets a low brass treatment in Steve Ash’s lovely arrangement for trombone quintet. While every part takes its turn with the melody for at least a short time, this is a good vehicle for showcasing a solid jazzy-ballad lead trombonist. Other accompanying moving lines around the entire ensemble will keep things interesting for everybody. While the lead trombone part spends a little bit of time in the upper register, and there are a few characteristic lower notes for the bass trombonist, there aren’t many other technical challenges making for an accessible chart for a broad range of skill levels. This is the first piece that I've composed where I wanted to experiment a bit more in. I came up with the motif near the end of 2018, and I basically expanded upon it from there. I quite like the sound of the main section, and I tried to sort of incorporate it in the other sections of the piece. The middle, near to the end section with the Alberti bass gives it a nice break between all of the heavy repeated notes. That's one thing I would have done differently in this piece; separate it a little bit more from the heavy repeated chords.There are some sections that I personally think are still a bit basic, which I with more experience will become better. I would have to say the start of the second page, or the ascending chords part sounds quite nice. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the end result, and I have another piece to fully release in the near future. I plan on narrowing down certain parameters to further develop my composition techniques and skills.

I hope everyone has been doing well during this crazy time. Originally I wrote these preludes as parts of composing exercises for Alan Belkin's book Music Composition: Craft and Art. They sat around for a bit until during the quarantine when I took a look at them again. I realized that these pieces had a lot of character to them, and they were quite distinct in nature. The first movement is a simple ternary form piece which begins and ends in the key of g minor and has a very neo-romantic tonal space. The B section is a brisk, more straight-forward tonal texture, but has a fun little twist sequencing up near the end of the section. The second movement was composed with the B vs Bb dichotomy functioning as a germinating cell for the rest of the movement's material. More impressionistic and mysterious than the other two movements, it also lacks a more traditional formal structure, instead relying on the development of motivic cells to make the movement cohere together in a logical way. The third movement is also a modified ternary movement, but with the A sections being played at different speeds, and the second A ending having an outro section attached. The B section is also more like a sonata form developmental section (without the required tonic-dominant modulatory feature). This movement is not only tonally very colorful, but also dynamic in regards to tempo, slowing and quickening often, giving the piece a continual sense of renewed spirit. Rather than just release the preludes as seperate pieces, I found that when played in a certain sequence, they represent a progression of mental and spiritual being that many people have, including myself, been going through during this time. As such, I made them into a suite. If it brings you a little bit of joy or excitement during this time (and after this is over), that's all that I can hope for.

A brand new solo for flute and piano. There's a little bit of horseplay between the flute and piano, the flautist needs to be able to double tongue and to use flutter tongue. There's a bit of a simple cadenza to start, followed by some interplay between the flute and piano pretending to tune. Then follows a march-like section with some deliberate discords in the flute. As this section becomes louder and more animated, the players should act cross with each other!Then follows a dreamy little melodic section in waltz time. There's lots of chromatic work in this section. The piano now dominates for a short while with a melodic idea, based on the flute's waltz melody bot with tremolos which gives the music an almost zither-like feel (expect the Third man to walk on stage. After this, the flute returns to dominance but gets interrupted by the piano who is missing being in the limelight!At the change to a quicker tempo and a major key - still with 'out of tune notes' the two 'play nicely together' for a while before it all goes to pot again when the flute develops hiccups! This leads back to an altered version of the original march tune, but faster.This time the two find common ground on the 8ve leaps and the piece finishes with a short codetta. A great show-off piece for the finale of a concert, allowing both the soloist and accompanist to sparkle.

All of us probably have attended gatherings, where things went along a little bit too long. The result of course was that we might start nodding off, as the title indicates. I found only the tune and two verses in an old Glee Club anthology in my great Grandfather's affects some years ago. The words are included in case the pianists would like to sing the lyrics as they play. There is some evidence to support that some portions of the lyrics appeared in a poem of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, . Other tunes from the mid 18th century where traces of this tune can be found in the tunes, Nid Noddin, The Whigs are Rinnen, General Scott asleep and quartz on the brain (we're all cranky, mad, mad, cranky)..

This piece originally began with the idea of the repeated chords in the right hand which I came up with near the end of 2018. I stumbled across this chord progression and developed it into the first eight bars of the composition. I liked the sound of the main section so I decided to use a Rondo form which is structured as ABACA with section A as the repeated chords in the right hand.It was a lot of fun to write this piece and I learnt many new things whilst writing, especially creating a good structure and developing the A section when it returns throughout the piece. The middle, near to the end section with the Alberti bass gives it a nice break between all of the heavy repeated notes. That's one thing I would have done differently in this piece; separate it a little bit more from the heavy repeated chords.The context and idea behind this piece is a bit more abstract than my other pieces as I usually aim to have a story behind my music but it was born out of a musical idea rather than a philosophical one. However, it seems to convey a frantic mood as well as some times for rest and slowing down.There are some sections that I personally think are still a bit basic, which I think with more experience I will be able to write better. I would have to say the start of the second page, or the ascending chords part sounds quite nice. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the end result, and I have another piece to fully release in the near future.
