"Edelweiss" is presented here in an arrangement for the instrumentation of Alford?s "Hungry Five" series of Polka/German band books. In this edition, the enduring and beloved melody from Rodgers & Hammerstein?s "The Sound Of Music" gets passed back and forth between the various instruments to keep things interesting for players and listeners alike.

Every Hungry Five band should keep a familiar waltz like this at the ready at all times as a change-up between all the other marchlike polkas normally played on such gigs. There are no extreme range or technical challenges in this arrangement, so even fairly young ensembles could use this to include some Broadway classiness on a German band performance. Ready to go for your Oktoberfest gig!

This setting of George Bernard's Classic Hymn, "Old Rugged Cross," for Clarinet quartet/choir takes a completely new approach harmonically in this arrangement. While the famous melody in the 1st clarinet has a few added embellishments, the rest of the ensemble joins with tighter jazz-influenced harmony.

A reflective approach to this piece of music would be extremely rewarding in a worship setting when used either as an offertory or as a lead-in to a music set. While none of the individual parts are particularly challenging, it will still be an exercise in balanced small ensemble playing.

Miss Trombonism by African American composer, trombonist, bandleader, and publisher Nathaniel Cleophas "Shorty" Davis was written in 1918 as a Trombone solo in the American genre of Ragtime featuring the trombone's patented glissando as the "hook". These solos were also called smears or jazzes.

Miss Trombonism is one of five entertaining works of Davis' "Trombone Family" written between 1915 and 1921 with the subtitle - A Slippery Tune. The granddaughter of "Oh Slip It Man" and daughter of Mr. Trombonology.

This arrangement has been wonderfully arranged by Aaron Hettinga for Trombone (the whole section can perform it) and Concert Band and is playable by moderately advanced performers.
