String Quartet String Quartet - SKU: A0.1150513 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by Adrian Gagiu. Baroque,Chamber. 42 pages. Adrian Gagiu #750689. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1150513). Handel’s great set of 12 Concerti grossi (= Grand Concertos, in the first edition) op. 6 are somehow a bit related in spirit, through their power and diversity, with Beethoven’s string quartets. Therefore, here they are arranged for the more ‘abstract’ and ‘timeless’ medium of the string quartet, allowing also for an addition to the repertoire of the respective ensembles. Articulation, tempo and dynamics indications were specified or added where needed, and all the trills were indicated to start with the upper auxiliary note, not only according to the Baroque performance practice but also fitting to the melodic contour. The movements of Concerto grosso in F major, op. 6 no. 2: 1. Andante larghetto - noble, rich and soulful 2. Allegro ma non tanto – agitated, in D minor 3. Largo – Larghetto andante – in two alternating sections and moods (stately, and then mysterious and gentle) 4. Allegro, ma non troppo – a vigorous and fun fugato, with a broad and lyrical second theme. Total duration 11 min. The mp3 clip is the final movement. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN.

Voice and piano - Medium - SKU: MQ.8492-26E Composed by MeeAe Cecilia Nam and Theodore Gouvy. Instrument part. 7 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8492-26E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8492-26E). French.Gouvy was known for writing some of the most beautiful melodies of the Romantic period. His style is a combination of German forms and an early French romantic harmonic structure. His writing for the piano in the songs is totally unified in mood and description with the voice, just as the piano is in Schubert’s songs. The equal partnership of the vocal line and piano interact closely to bring the poetry vividly into life with unimaginable artistic heights and unbridled passion. This volume includes Gouvy songs set to 18 poems of Philippe Desportes (1546–1606), and 18 poems of Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872). The elements of Romantic love poetry, such as enchanting love and its pain, and the personifying of nature, are fluently described with a great sensitivity in both voice and piano. Gouvy’s melody stir up the imagination because of his special treatment of words through a distinguishable and melodious vocal line, and his story telling and poetic treatment and development of the piano accompaniment. His compositional artistry places him in the upper echelons of art-song composers. One should note that Gouvy had a special fondness for the 16th Century poetry of La Pléiade (a group of Renaissance French poets, led by Pièrre de Ronsard (1524–1585). Desportes was truly the heir to Ronsard; however his work, when compared to that of Ronsard, is filled with greater abstraction and greater fluidity. Desportes seems to avoid any of the passionate anger that is occasionally characteristic of La Pléiade. This may be an indication that Desportes lived in a less distressed time. It also seems necessary to point out that he learned much in his early career by copying and studying the earlier works of La Pléiade. This has led some scholars to label him as a plagiarist, but it is important to realize that all the members of La Pléiade copied from each other when they wished to learn something new, and truly understand the style of the other poets in the group. Gouvy’s only choice of poems from his contemporaries, were the works of Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872), a good friend of Gouvy’s. Much of his poetry was strongly political in support of freedom of the individual. He traveled to Leipzig in 1845, but when the authorities discovered a volume of patriotic poems entitled Kelch und Schwert (Chalice and Sword), he fled to Belgium and France. It is at this time that he possibly met Théodore Gouvy. Eighteen poems of Hartmann were translated from German to French by the French poet, Adolph Larmande, of whom very little is known. Pierre Toussaint Adolphe Larmande seems to have been a rather obscure poet and musician. We know that he taught music theory at the Paris Conservatory at the same time Anton Reicha and Michele Carafa were on the faculty. We also know that in 1847 he married an English woman by the name of Marie Caroline Bradley. There are random documents, such as a Certificate of Arrival in London, England, in 1837, but there are no birth and death dates given, and that includes his obituary notice.

Version for Double Reed Quintet : Oboes 1&2 - English Horn - Bassoons 1&2 . Duration: 3'30'' .This supernatural, esoteric, abstract, contemplative and minimal first fugue takes place after the intimate prelude in the Suite for Organ Op.92 (1905) by Max Reger, masterwork of the late Romanticism that anticipates so many trends of the Expressionism period: loss of the tonal sense, exasperating contrasts, giant spots of vibrating timbrical color. Plus, the all-pervading memories and attitudes of the baroque period (specially the Bach's lesson) give to this music an irresistible charme, emotional and intellectual. SCORE and PARTS. Piano,Vocal,Voice - SKU: A0.893914 Composed by Joan Bujacich. 20th Century,Contemporary,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 7 pages. Joan Bujacich #6212183. Published by Joan Bujacich (A0.893914). This is the Devotion No. 2, With Wonder from : Three Devotions For Classical Voice and Piano by Joan Bujacich. This Devotion is mysterious and humbling as it depicts the beauty of God's creation. It is the most advanced musically of the three with the piano looping rhythmic figures that create tension and intrigue, while the voice floats above melodiously. The video set to the music, linked below to Youtube, features abstract paintings and photographs chosen are by various artists. They demonstrate the unifying message of love and respect for life, our planet, the universe and God. Though this Devotion can be performed on its own, it does balance nicely between the other two if an artist performed all three. It can also be purchased here on SMP with the other two under the title Three Devotions For Voice and Piano. All Three Devotions were recorded by mezzo soprano, Kathy Knittel, and the composer, Joan Bujacich on piano.

Schott Music - Digital #Q50413. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q50413). Unlike its predecessor Jehkin Iivana, which draws its inspiration from the world of Finnish myths and the ancient tradition of poet singers, the sources of the Sonata N° 2 are more abstract. The first movement starts with dissonant intervals, full of drama and conflict while the second has a dream-like atmosphere as if the guitar has been left alone in the forest. After a nightmarish episode, more hopeful music suddenly starts to appear. In the last movement the guitar returns to fight its tormentors from the first movement with renewed energy and takes its way heroically through all obstacles to a triumphant end. Olli Mustonen.

Piano Solo - Level 1 - SKU: A0.1025432 Composed by Samuel Warren Hatch. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Samuel Warren Hatch #4764151. Published by Samuel Warren Hatch (A0.1025432). Piano Sonata No. 1 in E Major is the first series of concert piano works by S. Warren Hatch, written during his undergraduate study at Campbell University. Each movement is distinct, in that each of them is composed in a different form, utilizes different key changes and scales, and takes influence from a different period in classical music. While there is no theme that connects them to one another, they are all in the key of E Major and consist mostly of a waltz-like feeling. II. A Saunter is a piano work based on the thoughts/feelings gained from a somber walk through a beautiful city. It embraces the duality of the abstract and the concrete, mirroring how a walk can be one admiring his/her surroundings and reflecting on life’s sufferings, simultaneously.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792740). After the Second World War, Shostakovich was expected to compose a great Ninth Symphony with giant forces to be dedicated to the great leader, Stalin and the greatness of the Russian people. Instead, he wrote an abstract, almost Neoclassical work full of mockery, playfulness, and bombastic gestures. The first movement of this great work is featured in a fantastic arrangement by Wes Ballenger for Brass Quintet with optional Percussion (only one performer needed) and can be performed by advanced artists. The instrumentation is for: 2 Trumpets in C, Horn in F, Trombone, F Tuba or Bass Trombone and Percussion (snare drum and triangle). The arrangement is about 4 1/2 minutes in length.Cherry Classics is indebted to the Shostakovich Estate for giving permission to publish this arrangement.

Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1156597). Concerto grosso in B minor, op. 6 no. 12: 1. Largo-Allegro moderato – dramatic introduction, like in a French overture, then agitated and brilliant; 2. Aria (Larghetto) – soothing, with 2 variations; 3. Largo-Allegro – brief, tragic transition, then an animated fugue on a gigue-like theme. The mp3 audio clip is the final movement (Allegro). Total duration: 11 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN.

Publisher by Rudesindo Soutelo #6094679. Published by Publisher by Rudesindo Soutelo (A0.1013234). This enchantment is a brass trio –there is one version for woodwind instruments and another for strings– and is built on four notes, the four most emblematic notes in the history of Western Music, the notes that constitute the name of BACH (Bb-A-C-B). These four notes establish a complex {1,3,1} and its complement {3,1,3}. With these complexes, rigorously elaborated in a counterpoint texture of increasing tension, emotions are aroused which open us to a different perception. The enchantment may be Bach or the contemplation of any other sublime beauty, but the listener does not need to know the sound material used to feel bewitched. The enchantment is an abstract emotional state that each listener experiences in a particular and different way.

Peet du Toit #6197563. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802647). I've Gotta Get a Message to You is a song by the Bee Gees. Released as a single on 7 September 1968, it was their second number-one single on the UK Singles Chart and their first US Top 10 hit.The song is about a man who, awaiting his execution in the electric chair, begs the prison chaplain to pass a final message on to his wife. Robin Gibb, who wrote the lyrics, said that the man's crime was the murder of his wife's lover, though the lyrics do not explicitly allude to the identity of the victim. Robin said, This is about a prisoner on Death Row who only has a few hours to live. He wants the prison chaplain to pass on a final message to his wife. There's a certain urgency about it. Myself and Barry wrote it. It's a bit like writing a script. Sometimes you can sit there for three hours with your guitar and nothing will happen. Then in the last ten minutes something will spark. The song was written with Percy Sledge in mind to record it. Sledge did record it in February 1970 but Atlantic did not issue his version in the United States at the time.Barry recalled, In those days, the lyrics were almost pretty well done on the spot. I don't remember the fundamentals on how the lyrics were formed, except that we were writing about a guy on death row. That was it.Robin adds:It was like acting, you see, we said, let's pretend that somebody, his life is on the line, somebody's going to the chair. What would be going through their mind? Let's not make it doom and gloom but sort of an appeal to the person he loves. Because right now that's all he cares about. Regardless of whether he's done a bad thing, he is a human being, and he's sending out this last message. There's someone out there whom he loves. It's a torch song, but within a very sort of theatrical sense. Not sort of abstract, but definitely somebody in a very bad situation whose life is going to end. What would they be saying, you know? This is it: 'Gotta get a message to you, hold on.Revive this hit on your brass instruments and enjoy!
