This fingerstyle guitar collection features 20 engaging lyrical tunes from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales plus three original pieces by accomplished guitarist, trumpeter and composer William A. Bay, president, and editor-in-chief at Mel Bay Publications. Tasked with writing intermediate-level arrangements in either standard or dropped-D tuning, guitarist/arranger Raymond Gonzalez displays uncommon music rethinking skills while preserving the plaintive and lilting nature of these enduring melodies. Unique to these settings, you will find sparse, open-chord harmonies accentuated by double hammer-ons and pull-offs, and the odd harmonic mixed with normal tones within a melodic line all reminiscent of gentle waves washing up against a rocky island shore. This is a piano transcription with voice of the version of My Love, My Life from the movie Mamma Mia Here We Go Again. The version in the movie is sung by Lily James, Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. The song was originally performed by Abba and is written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. This arrangement has been made for the three voices as used in the movie but can be performed as a duet just as easily.

The famous Romanza was made popular by its inclusion in a French Movie "Les Jeux Interdits" and wrongly attributed to many guitarists. Composed by none other than "Anonymous", the earliest recording of the "Spanish Romance" originated from a cylinder recording featuring guitarists Luis and Simon Ramírez. The recording was made in Madrid sometime between 1897 and 1901.

Three Preludes on Occitan Songs

The single download comprises of an Introduction with performers' notes, a score with TAB underneath (to aid with the DADGBD tuning) and a score with notes only.

In performance, the guitar is tuned DADGBD (with both strings 1 and 6 tuned to D).

Icomposed Three Preludes on Occitan Songsduring the years I spent living and working in South West France.
I hadthe pleasure of seeing Occitan bands performing at village festivals. The styleof music was coarse and rhythmic with lyrics telling timeless stories. I borrowed the mostsimple of melodic fragments and use them to create contemporary guitar workssuitable for concert performance.

The Cancion de Hialara translates as ?The Spinner?sSong?. In this, I have imitated the rustic drones of the hurdy-gurdies found inOccitan bands through the use of tremolo patterns.

Som Som is a lullaby. This melody isfamiliar to many cultures across Europe and beyond.

Lò NostreAse translatesas ?Our Donkey?. It is a comic song which tells of the antics of a stubbornrustic animal. Players should enjoy the hemiola rhythms where 3/4 is set again6/8.

This cancause some difficulty in reading. Also, to take advantage of the sonority ofthe instrument when tuned this way, the unusual playing positions and fingeringare critical. It is for these reasons that I have provided the score in justnotes but also with notes and tablature below.

Derek Hasted writes "This fantastic theme was written as an integral part of the film of the same name.

Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea rightly received a BAFTA award for the gorgeous soundtrack music.

My arrangement captures the four ?verses? that feature in this piece - each verse maintains the same thematic material but the accompaniment becomes more involved and with a thicker texture, before the piece fades away again. The guitar accompaniment is styled on the piano solo score, but tailored here and there to fit the guitar like a glove.

The key here isn?t the same as the original, but it fits right into the ?sweet spot? of the flute?s pitch range and allows for a guitar accompaniment that can use open strings to improve the sustain. Unlike other arrangements, this has plenty of space and few finger gymnastics, so the gentle movement of the original is easy to reproduce.

I also have an arrangement for two guitars which moves the melody between the guitars as the piece progresses.
