It would suit a mixed ability ensemble where the tune player is comfortable to move up the neck and the bass player has the least experience.The second arrangement rotates the roles so that each player takes a different role in every verse and each player has the tune at one point. It would suit a more evenly matched ensemble as the tune deserves a consistent tone and volume across the three verses.The two versions share the same notes.There’s no fingering on the score. This is because a more skilled ensemble might enjoy taking the parts up the neck to achieve a rounder and more lyrical tone.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Arranging a Gaita de Furro for youth orchestra makes sense for the following reasons: First and foremost, the self-knowledge of a society should start from the childhood and should be cultivated and carried on from generation to generation, thereby conserved. Moreover, a lack of a pedagogical act, thus a pedagogical repertoire, is one of the main causes for the ignorance of Venezuelan music. Another important aspect is the transformation or adaptation as a process of maintaining Venezuelan musical culture. Many children already present the intention of the composition by drawing their attention to the formation of the orchestra, which represents a globally unified language as a network of distribution and which is locally independent. Wherever the composition is played - each orchestra will be able to maintain the quality and expressiveness of the piece without hiding its identity. The piece opens with a fanfare introduction of the Cabra Mocha, followed by a drum roll, which reminds of the drummer's traditional reputation and introduces the theme whose chorus is represented by the tutti and its verses by the soli. The first variation consists of a two-bar rhythm and major tonality, full of wit and cunning. The following variation is an Adagio with a three-part rhythm in minor. Then the timpani return to initiate the theme, this time shortened by its Reprise, which finally leads to a polyphonic Codetta. On an interpretative level, the return of variation can be compared with the return of education and thus, to a certain extent, improvisation. This is a very striking factor of traditional music, which is represented as a fitting metaphor in the form of harmonic and rhythmic reference within the composition. Introduccion, Tema y Variaciones sobre la Cabra Mocha was composed in the last weeks of 2012 and won the first prize in the composition competition for the Youth Orchestra of Zulia, which was awarded by the Venezuelan Orchestra in its first edition in 2013. At the beginning of 2014 Silvano Pagliuca-Mena made a small revision of the piece. Silvano Antonio Pagliuca Mena was born on 10 May 1991 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Despite his Italian and Spanish roots, he has always remained true to his love for the music of his homeland, which is why his compositions always carry Venezuelan impressions, but also influences like academic western music, jazz and popular music.

The mother was unmarried and ashamed and tried to ignore the child as if it were a reproach to her, the child became autistic and unable to react to others. This setting for alto voice, cello and guitar reflect the mood of the poem in all its sadness. The sound sample is a performance by the composer, with Chris Benson on cello. (The guitar's 6th string is tuned to D - much use is made of 12th and 19th (or 7th if preferred) fret harmonics) The pdf file contains score and parts. She was one of the earliest advocates and scholars on historically informed performance practices, and she made the first-ever recording of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord.Landowska was born in Warsaw in 1879 and started playing the piano when she was four years old. As a child, she studied with Jan KleczyÅ?ski and then Aleksander Michalowski. Kleczynski noticed in her lessons that she had an affinity for older Baroque music, and he didn't want to impose his sensibilities onto the already apparent musical prodigy. Consequently, her mother decided that Kleczynski was too lenient of a teacher and sent her to study with the stricter Michalowski, who was a Chopin specialist. When she was 16 years old, Landowska moved to Berlin to study composition with Heinrich Urban, but was discouraged by the rigid curriculum. However, while in Berlin she composed songs and orchestral works, and she met her future husband, Henry Lew. In 1900, the young couple moved to Paris and got married. There she became associated with the Schola Cantorum, and was introduced to Vincent D'Indy, Albert Schweitzer, and other prominent performers and musicologists of the era.Throughout the next ten years, Landowska toured Europe and Russia, and dedicated herself to researching the authentic performance practices of older music. Her husband assisted her in this research, and they often utilized libraries that they encountered while touring. She concluded that it's more appropriate to play Baroque keyboard music on the harpsichord rather than on the piano. By 1909, Landowska and her husband published the book Musique Ancienne, which was the culmination of all of their research regarding the performance practices of Baroque music. She also started teaching harpsichord classes in 1913 at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin.Ten years later, Landowska made her debut in the United States, performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Stokowski. Also in 1923, she performed in the world premiere of Manuel de Falla's El retablo de maese Pedro, where she met Francis Poulenc and asked him to write a harpsichord concerto for her. She also commissioned a concerto from Falla in 1925, which would prove to be a modern masterpiece. In 1929, Landowska performed the premiere of Poulenc's Concert champêtre in Paris. By this time, she had settled in a town north of Paris, and was teaching from her school L'Ã?cole de Musique Ancienne, which she established in 1925. She offered private and group courses and an annual summer concert series that was very popular. Landowska taught and performed in this capacity until 1940, when she had to abandon the school, her extensive library, and her home because of World War II. With the assistance of her student Denise Restout, she escaped to Portugal and then sailed to the United States, and eventually settled in Lakeville, Connecticut. She continued to perform and teach in the U.S., and at the age of 70 she recorded the complete Well-Tempered Clavier, which was highly acclaimed. Landowska was 80 years old when she passed away in Lakeville in 1959.

Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767421). Titans: This is a piece inspired by the mythological Titans, who were deposed by the Greek God Zeus, who exiled them and founded the Olympian tradition. The titans were created by the mating of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (the Earth). Gaea and Uranus were themselves created from Chaos (the Void). There were many Titans. Cronus, often mistaken for the god of time, was their leader, their brother and the father of their children. Cronus mated with his sister Rhea to produce the gods Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. Cronus was given a prophecy that he would be deposed by his children, so he forced Rhea to give her children to him when they were born whereupon he ate them. She managed to deceive him and hid Zeus, the youngest male child, away. Zeus eventually freed his siblings, by making Cronus vomit to bring them back to the world and thus he became the oldest. The other gods were persuaded to make Zeus their leader and together they deposed Cronus and defeated the Titans in a war (the Titanomachy) that lasted for many years. Zeus and the other gods were not able to kill Cronus, so he exiled him and all of the other Titans in a place called Tartarus, which was part of the underworld, where Cronus would have no access to power of any kind. The music is based mostly on the opening chords, which recur again and again, representing Tartarus and also Cronus and all of his children in one form or another. Melodic material throughout is shaped by the chords and their progressions and I have applied simple transformations – for example, in the last section I have shaped the motifs by applying a snippet of a Fibonacci sequence and overlaying the result in different parts like a canon. I decided to use this because the Fibonacci sequence is representative of nature and the growth of life so it links to Gaea, who represents the creative force. Obviously, Cronus, Gaea, Chaos, Zeus, Hades, Poseidon and Tartarus are all represented here, but so too are Oceanus, Phoebe, Mnemosyne and The Titanomachy (The war of the Olympians against the Titans). The piece finishes with a reprise of the opening chords, which have transformed into a less bleak soundscape, with Cronus and the other Titans safely locked away in Tartarus.This is a difficult and challenging piece demanding a high level of skill from all players. it uses a number of dramatic effects and will stretch any ensemble.I am looking into making a version of this piece for Brass Quintet.Watch te score playing here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w7dUmJh5k4

He quickly gained a reputation as a virtuosoconcert guitarist.He moved to Germany in 1810, gaining almost immediate success. In 1815, he was living in Paris, earning his living as a teacher of both the piano and the guitar. On a concert tour in Germany in 1819, he met his friend Antoine Meissonnier for the first time. Also a famous guitarist, Meissonnier published many of Carcassi's works in his Paris publishing house. For Meissonnier he also arranged a number of popular songs for guitar that were originally written for piano, including works by Théodore Labarre and Loïsa Puget.From 1820 on, Carcassi spent the majority of his time in Paris. In 1823, he performed an extremely successful series of concerts in London that earned him great fame, both as a performing artist and as a teacher. However, in Paris, a long time passed before his talents were truly recognized, partly because of the presence of Ferdinando Carulli.Carcassi was in Germany again during autumn 1824. Afterwards he performed in London, where his reputation now gave him access to more prestigious concert halls. Finally he returned to Paris. For several years, he made concert trips from here to the most important cultural towns of Europe, including London. Audacious Binary Forms for pianist playing one or two pianos, won Australia’s most prestigious piano composition competition the Jean Bogan Prize for Piano Composition 2016. The world premiere was performed by Michael Kieran Harvey. He is considered by many as being one of Australia’s greatest living concert pianists. Michael specializes in performing world premieres of compositions by Australian composers. He is also a prolific composer of avant-garde music. ABSTRACT FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTIONS Audacious Binary Forms for piano is in a fractured binary form. Two types of structures exist; lettered structures, which are experimental structures, and explore the sonorities of the piano, and numbered structures, which are more traditional structures. A structure may be a single page or more than one page. Each page in a structure is to be played sequentially. For example, with structure C, consisting of three pages, C1, C2, C3, each page is played sequentially in numerical order, C1, C2, C3. EXPERIMENTAL STRUCTURESThe structures A, B, C, D, E, F, G, Percussion, CADENZA, and CODA are experimental. TRADITIONAL STRUCTURESThe structures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, are traditional. PREPARING THE SCORE FOR PERFORMANCE There are four different options for a performance. MINIMALIST OPTIONThe 13 cards cut from the CUTOUT page are shuffled. Card 4 Rag (1,2) is removed. The 12 cards are placed face down. One card is revealed representing the structure that is to be performed. A member of the audience can be invited to shuffle the cards. STOCHASTIC OPTION An audience member or members can be invited to shuffle all the pages of the score. The resultant random sequence of pages becomes the whole score for the performance. PERFORMER’S OPTIONThe performer prepares the structures according to his musical tastes. All of the experimental structures should be performed. The performer is free to play none, some, or all of the traditional structures. Please note that each structure remains an independent structure and is played sequentially. For example, structure C, consisting of three pages would be played C1, C2, C3 in that order. PERFORMER/COMPOSER OPTIONMonths before the concert the performer can contact me at paulcopeland1@bigpond.com, to discuss the performance, and to work out an ideal performance structure for the work, taking into consideration the venue, expected size of audience, size of auditorium, music program, and if two pianos will be available. His compositional styles range from neo-classical, jazz, ragtime, and musical theatre to electronic, avant-garde, post-avant-garde, and experimental music. Born in 1947, Copeland grew up an only child in a musical household. His mother was a talented singer, his father an accomplished amateur pianist, composer of popular music, and internationally renowned travelling telepathist known as Argus The Boy Prophet. Copeland's musical studies commenced at the age of 16 when he began studying piano, and a year later, he enrolled at the Melba Conserv.

This beautiful, melodious and fun piece, which plays for 12 minutes and 17 seconds on the CD, is scored in a bright F major key, has two sections in C major, and employs 43 orchestral instruments, played by 40 musicians. Two percussionists play five instruments. The pianist directs and conducts the work from the piano, or a conductor may be employed instead. I chose a concert grand piano, or a baby grand piano, and a concert harp as the two leading, but not solo, orchestral instruments which are used to showcase the piece. I have included a .mp3 audio clip of this piece to illustrate the neo-classical melodies in it. Divertimenti, were first written by Franz Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during the Classical period, between 1750 and 1809. A divertimento is a short, entertaining, chamber ensemble or orchestral work, usually in the form of an orchestral suite, written in several sections and/or movements. It can have as few as three, or many more instruments! A divertimento does not have a strict format, but a liberal one, within acceptable limits or conventions, and only small chamber ensembles were employed to perform divertimenti in Haydn's and Mozart's day in the eighteenth century. Both a divertimento and a cassation may contain a leading or obbligato instrument(s), or can even be integrated with vocal or choral music. However, divertimenti and cassations never have solo instruments, as in a concerto. An Opus number 1, means that this is the first written work of a composer; opus 2 means the second work, and so forth. 'Opus' means a work, or composition. I sub-titled the piece: Luna Park rides, Milson's Point, N.S.W., 2061, Australia, and circus sideshows. I chose this sub-title because the work reminds me of my childhood days, of the rides at Luna Park, Sydney, such as the Merry-go-Round, the Ferris Wheel, the Cha-Cha, the Dodgem cars, the Rotor, the Mirror Maze, the slippery dips in Coney Island, the River Caves, the Ghost Train - burnt down presumably due to an electrical fault, in December, 1974, killing 7 people, the Giant Pendulum ride, the Giant Spider ride, the Big Dipper, later renamed the Wild Cat and later the Wild Mouse, which is actually a Roller-coaster ride. Some of the Harp part sounds like the movement of the Roller-coaster! Also, the work reminisces on my experience of the Sole Brothers' Circus sideshows, in 1977, such as the targeting games and prizes, and clowns sideshows, which my dad took me to see when I was about 12 years old.
