Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.941527 Composed by Harry Salotti. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 16 pages. Harry Salotti #6207645. Published by Harry Salotti (A0.941527). An American Rondo is written for Brass Quintet. The style of the piece is similar to the Cheetham Scherzo and the Frackenpohl Brass Quintet. It is three minutes long. It follows a standard rondo form. There are four themes with the primary theme returning several times. The range of each part is about two octaves. The only real technical challenge is the many meter changes that occur in the piece. An American Rondo is a tonal, upbeat piece mainly in a major key. Listen to the audio file and hear some new American music for your quintet and your audiences.

Piano,Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928164 Composed by P. F. Strohm. 20th Century,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score and part. 68 pages. Pete Strohm Music #6411765. Published by Pete Strohm Music (A0.928164). Sonata No. 5 for Trombone and Piano was written for American trombonist Mark Babbitt, Professor of Trombone at Illinois State University. The work is tonal, in three movements. The first movement, Moderato, is in sonata form largely in 6/8, with a lyrical trombone and sparkling piano moving between B and E-flat. The middle movement in A major labeled Andante sospirando has Eastern overtones, both rhythmic and tonal. In a sub-divided 3/4, the sound in the first half is a mystical Lydian, shifting the same melody to Ionian at the midpoint. A dramatic piano section punctuates both halves. The third movement, Allegro is a modified rondo form in a duple meter with an Americana sound. It brims with confidence and playfulness, alternating between C and G-flat, with sweeping themes and a driving, wilder midsection. Sonata No. 5 for Trombone and Piano is an outstanding work for contest, concert or recital. Difficulty level is medium-advanced. Performance time is 17:30. Member, ASCAP.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933610 Composed by Thomas Coker. 20th Century,Instructional,Standards. Score. 9 pages. Thomas Rembert Coker Jr #3503503. Published by Thomas Rembert Coker Jr (A0.933610). To quote Wikipedia: Sweet Betsy from Pike is an American ballad about the trials of a pioneer named Betsy and her lover Ike who migrate from Pike County (Missouri?) to California. The cover art here is drawn by artist, Kaytha Coker Potts, whose image captures the imagined Betsy and Ike as they cross rivers, plains, and mountains on the way to California. The music for the various movements of Sweet Betsy, similarly, can be seen as musical pictures of this harrowing yet thrilling trip. Movement I pictures a joyful determination to make the trip, accompanied by energy enough to make the early struggles endurable. Movement II pictures rest and reflection. The evening comes when one thinks through the events of the day with peace and anticipation of continuing the journey tomorrow. Movement III paints the joy of the journey with the end in sight. High energy and much joy is found here. This sonatina was inspired by – and in many ways patterned after – Dmitri Kabalevsky’s Sonatina Op. 13, No. 1. The first movement, Allegretto, imitates Kabalevsky’s use of the arch phrase in which two bars are mirrored by the following two bars. As the movement progresses, the tempo adjusts to meet continuing challenges – all filled with energy. In the second movement, Introspection Andante, one takes the time to rest and reflect and, in so doing, to find the mental and musical balance needed on a journey as well as in music. Movement III, the sonatina’s name sake, is in rondo form and rollicks along in b minor and 6/8 meter. The tune, Sweet Betsy, always in mind yet unstated, finally erupts three times in the center section, first in the left hand (in B Major), then a second time (in F Major) before appearing in the right hand (in C# Major) while accompanied (in B Major) in the left hand. The resulting conflicting tonalities are followed by a transitional sixteenth note run leading back to the first theme in b minor as the rondo plays out.

Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #6342051. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534705). The composer and harpsichordist Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy was born in Paris in 1744, and died in 1824 in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandie. She married Jacques Brillon de Jouy 22 years her senior, and had two daughters, Cunégonde and Aldegonde, Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy had a salon in Passy whose guests included the violinist Jean-Pierre Pagin and cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini. Benjamin Franklin was also a frequent vistor and Madame Brillon has an extensive correspondence with him, including the period after his stay in Paris during the American Revolution .Many of her compositions were purchased in 1957 by the American Philosophical Society of Philadelphia, in honor of this friendship. In 2021, French Pianist Nicolas Horvath recorded a landmark CD for Grand Piano (GP872-73) of Brillon’s keyboard noatas with extensive notes by Aliette de Laleu, Deborah Hayes and Nicolas Horvath and Christine de Pas The keyboard sonatas published here are intended to document this reocrding. The twelve numbered sonatas, marked “Troisième Recueil de Sonates pour le pianoforte ou clavecin avec accompagnement d’un viiolon ad libitumâ€, are in the hand of a copyist and are contained in a bound volume labeled as her Troisième Recueil (‘Third Collection’) and dedicated to Mesdemoiselles Brillon. Evidently the composer at some point chose these 12 sonatas to be copied as a sampling of her work for her two daughters. The manuscript is in the collection of the American Philosopical Society in Philadelphia. The Sonata no. 2 in Bb major is in two movements: Allegro malto moderato and Rondo with variations. Both of these movements utilse many passages with hand-crossings.

Fl. Fl. Afl. BFl. - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM536 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Robert Rainford. Mixed Flute Quartet, 2 Concert Flutes, Alto Flute, Bass Flute. Score and parts. 85 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM536. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM536). ISBN 9790570484355.This quartet was composed during Dvorak's time in America, during a summer vacation in 1893. It was written in Spillville, Iowa, which at the time was home to a large Czech immigrant community. Dvorak seems to have found the natural country surroundings much more to his liking, having spent much of his previous time in the country in New York. The work was written very quickly, being sketched in three days and finished in about two weeks. In this quartet, Dvorak finally seems to find a balance between his melodic invention and a clear structure. Many writers have tried to find specific 'American' features in this work - from pentatonic melodies to native Indian tunes to American birdsong - but in general such specific references are doubted. The first movement moves from passages of great harmonic stillness through a much more dramatic development section that takes the music through fugato section before recapping the original material. The second movement features a simple, pentatonic melody over a pulsing accompaniment. This melody is shared between the highest and lowest parts, before being developed in an extended middle section until the bass flute restates the original tune while the accompaniment thins out completely. The third movement is a variant of a traditional scherzo. It features two tunes, the main melody being a sprightly tune full of off-beats and cross-rhythms. The alternate melody is actually a variant of the main scherzo theme, but in a minor key and at half tempo. The final movement is in a traditional rondo form. The main melody is once more pentatonic, the B section is more lyrical, and the C section is a chorale theme.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.917410 Composed by Gregory Fritze. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 267 pages. Musica Nova USA #6078853. Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917410). Sinfonietta (alternate title SinfonÃa de Vino y Aceite de Magallon) is a composition for concert band that can be played by any band whether it has 100 players or 30 players. It is at grade 3 level of difficulty and has several substitute parts for ensembles that may not have complete instrumentation. Although the scoring includes piccolo, oboes, bassoons, and French horns, these instruments are not needed to command a good performance.Sinfonietta adheres to classical forms of symphonies by composers such as Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. The forms are very clear so the players of the band can learn this important history. The first movement is in standard Sonata Allegro form. The second movement is in A B A form and features a solo trumpet. The third movementis in a Rondo form (A B A C A) with three distinct themes. The work was commissioned in 2017 by the town of Magallón, Spain in celebration of the town’s industries of wine and olive oil. The mayor of the town of 1,000 inhabitants, Victor Manuel Chueca Rodriguez, was specific in his request for a composition at grade 3 level of difficulty. He also suggested the title as Symphony. Since it a three-movement composition instead of a four-movement composition (the normal Minuet and Trio movement is not included in this piece), the title of Sinfonietta instead of Symphony is used.Gregory Fritzeis a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer and conductor. His compositions have been performed more than one thousand times in over twenty-six countries. He has written over ninety compositionsfor orchestra, band, chamber ensemblesand soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally, including First Prize in the 1st WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) International Composition Contest2017, First Prize Winner of Reneé Fisher Composition Prize, First Prize Winner in Concurso Bienal de Composición de Musica para Banda, Ciudad de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Menzione d'Onore (highest award given) of the Mario Bernardo Angelo-Comneno International Music Competition by the Accademia Angelica Costantiniana Arti E Scienze (Italy), First Prize in the TUBA International Etude Composition Competition, the IBLA Grand Prize (Italy), 2nd Prize in the 2nd WASBE International Composition Contest 2019, several awards from The American Prize, annual composition awards from Standard Awards Panel of American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers and many others. He has been commissioned by The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, The Army Band Pershing’s Own of Washington, DC, The Banda Municipal of Bilbao, The Primativa de Lliria, and others. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe and have been performed extensively throughout the world. He has thirty-three compositions commercially recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Records and others. Nulla sed leo. Nullam sed purus. Nulla vitae diam sapien. Nulla gravida pretium magna. Tellus, ventus et ignis. Verbum sapientes defendit.   The Lorem ipsum is a text in pseudo-Latin, loosely inspired in a writing of Cicero[1] and that since the XVI century is used in publishing as filler text. Today it is used with a similar function, in electronic documents or web design. There are several versions of this text (of variable length), all them used to begin in the same way (Lorem ipsum … elit) but goon in different fashions. Therefore, I also invented part of the text, taking care of the metric, structural parallelisms and some hidden allusion to popular music (Tellus, ventus et ignis is Earth, Wind and Fire). The last sentence has even some sense: Verbum sapientes defendit means that the word defends to those who know. In the coda, since it is vocally much more practical to finish in m than in t, I changed the last word: dolor sit ipsum, what carries the existentialist message that pain is oneself.  Musically, the form is a rondo, with an obsessive refrain (based on the sentence we are commenting) which reappears without modifications.  This piece was composed in Bremen (Germany) on 18, 19 and 20 May 2015 (as if from a handbook: one day the text, the following day the music and on the third one big adjustements and the definitive precisions). Lorem ipsum is dedicated to Gonzalo MartÃn SaldÃvar. Premiere by the chamber choir Northern Spirit, conducted by Jaret Choolun, tenth year anniversary concert1 (19th November 2016) at the kleiner Saal of Die Glocke, Bremen, Germany. Instrumental Duet Banjo,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.985326 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 14 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6013867. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985326). This is a 14 page work in three movements that has a performance time of roughly 12:30 to 13:30. I composed this sonata back in 2012 and it was given a filmed premiere by Brett Parnell on banjo and Daniel Corr on guitar. The first movement is a sonata form that opens in G minor and ends in G major. The second movement is a set of variations on an old shape note tune known as Star in the East, and the third movement is a five-part rondo that recapitulates themes from the first and second movements. This sonata is part of a larger cycle of chamber sonatas I have been composing since 2000 which began with my sonata for flute and guitar and pairs the guitar up with woodwinds, strings and brass. The over-arching concept that guides the chamber sonata cycle as I've been working on it is to draw upon Haydn and Clementi's monothematic sonata forms as a template for synthesizing 18th century galant era processes of gestural development with American vernacular and popular styles, often from the age of ragtime up through to the 1940s and beyond.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.964566 Composed by Betsy Bright. Children,Concert,Folk,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 55 pages. Bright Music Company #6247007. Published by Bright Music Company (A0.964566). This original, 3 movement brass quintet composed by Betsy Bright conjures images of the Wild West. The first movement opens with a nod to the Copland Americana sound, and then quickly dives into an adventurous theme that feels like a hero racing on horseback. Every instrument gets some solo features throughout the movement. The second movement, Lonesome paints the picture of a sorrow that can sink even through the most beautiful desert landscape, casting forlorn shadows in every direction. And finally, the third movement, Rowdy depicts a wild rodeo! This movement is in Rondo form, and with every return of the theme, we have the sensation of another rider bursting through the gate taking a ride on another bucking bronco. This piece is a major crowd pleaser, whether on a standard recital or a pops program. And any individual movement works perfectly for education shows. Every player has great solo features, yet at no point is this piece tiring or physically painful in any way, so it’s super fun to play too!Duration: 8 minutes

The Belgian violinist, Eugene Ysaye (1858-1931), with his impressive blend of virtuosity and poetry, was a great admirer of the young Debussy's music who led the Paris premiere of his only string quartet in December 1893. In September 1892, Debussy was planning an American tour with the financial support of Prince Andre Poniatowski that was to include his 'nearly completed three Scenes au crepuscule', inspired by the Symbolist poetry of his friend Henri de Regnier. He made 'extensive revisions' to them in 1893, even if all that seems to have survived is a series of sketches in Bibliotheque Nationale de France, MS 20632(2), most of which appear to be for violin and orchestra in E or B major. Another related, and more virtuosic, theme emerged in a Parisian sale in June 2006, which opens the main part of the present Nocturne (after a slow introduction).<br> <br> We also learn from Ernest Chausson in April 1893 that Debussy was composing a work for Ysaye's first American tour in 1894-95, which at one stage was described as a 'concerto'. Then, as Debussy was putting the finishing touches to L'Apres-midi d'un faune in 1894, he told Ysaye he was now working on 'three Nocturnes for solo violin and orchestra which are destined for you', and which undoubtedly derived from his earlier 'Twilight scenes'. The first was to be 'for strings only'. the second for three flutes, four horns, three trumpets and two harps. the third combines all these instruments'. He also informed Ysaye, perhaps with Whistler's Nocturnes in mind, that they were to be like 'a study in grey in painting'. Debussy only abandoned this project in November 1896 after Ysaye told him he would not be able to premiere the Nocturnes in Brussels 'for financial reasons'.<br> <br> My completion comes closest to the third Nocturne Debussy planned and to being a rondo with related episodes. The dynamic idea that emerged in 2006, which was scored by Debussy, leads naturally into the 'twilight' theme in B major beginning on solo cello and doublebasses, with the high, haunting three-note idea first heard at the outset floating above on solo violin, exactly as Debussy conceived it. All five of Debussy's themes are harmonized and they vary in length between three and thirteen bars: none of them relate to the orchestral Nocturnes of 1897-99. Rather than develop any of these themes, they are presented in changing harmonic backgrounds in the contemporary manner of L'Apres-midi d'un faune, and the whole work centres on an expansive scalar which joins the various aspects of Debussy's 'twilight' themes together in a new perspective.
