Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1040102 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Score. 140 pages. DoReMi Edition #644926. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1040102). One of the Masterpieces of Chinese Music of 20th Century The magnificent cave art at Dunhuang, in Western China sets the stage for the ballet, “Dream of Dunhuangâ€. In the middle of the vast wastes of Western China, lies the oasis of Dunhuang, situated in today‘s Gansu Province. Since the Western Han Dynasty(202BC-8AC), Dunhuang was an important trading and cultural center on the famous “Silk Road’, the ribbon of communication which fostered the historic ties between East and West. In the East was China, source of treasured trading articles such as silk; in the West, the â€road“ branched to Venice, and north to what is today‘s Russia. The mural led caves at Dunhuang, which were begun the Northern Wei dynasty(336AD), and developed over one thousand years into the Qing Dynasty, re presents one of the world‘s richest cultural treasures. Drawing on bothn Western(Indian and Persian) as well as Chinese tradition, the caves, of which 492 remain intact, were decorated as a mines of religious devotion, with the initiation of Buddhism into China. The subjects of the murals, such as devise, demons, apsaras and bodhisattvas, represent the entire pantheon of Buddhist mythology, yet are also significant in their representation of muti-racial and muti-cultural influences, standing as an important testament to the age old exchange between East and West. A fabricated fantasia, the story of the ballet was inspirited by the famous artist, maestro Chang Shu-hong, who dedicated his whole life to Dunhuang. One of the Huang An-lun‘s major compositions with the play written by Xu Qing-dong, the score of “Dream of Dunhuang†was completed in mid-1979. The ballet has been dedicated to the composer‘s closest friends, Canadian writers John Fraser and Elizabeth MacCallun. Up to the date this CD being released, the ballet has never got a chance to performed in mainland China. Nevertheless, its music has been wildly performed and warmly received around the world. The Singapore premiere of its suite No.1 was performed by the SSO, conducted by Maestro Lim Yao. It has been also chosen as one of the “Master Piece of Chinese Music in 20th Century†in 1993. The world premiere of the complete ballet was performed successfully by the Russian State Ballet of Moscow, directed by its artist director, Vyatcheslav Godeyev, in 1994. Choreographed by Chen Min, it was took place in Taiwan with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro David C.H.Chen. In 2002, ROI of Hong Kong has released the CD of the whole ballet, performed by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow. This is also the audio file attached. Before this recording conducted by the composer himself, the entire score was also performed by the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Moscow in1995. The YouTube video was the World Premiere in Taiwan by the Russia National Ballet with the Taiwan symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Chen in 1994. The ballet, “ Dream of Dunhuang†depicts two young artists seeking the ultimate experience in love and expression. This two lovers arrived at desert and with the guidance of the celestial maiden, they discover the miracles of Dunhuang. It‘s divided into three acts: Act I: Desert, Act II: Cave, and Act III: Mogao cave.

Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1009217). SEVEN CANADIAN FOLK SONGS IN CHINESE STYLE Septet for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass and Piano An-lun Huang, op.36 (1986) James Campbell, the famous Canadian clarinets, commissioned a septet from Huang for the China tour of the Canadian Chamber Group in 1984. Campbell suggested that An-lun combine the folk music of Canada and China in this new work. The result was the septet,†Seven Canadian Folk Songs in Chinese style, became the most exciting hit piece of the tour. The world premiere was taken place at the Festival of the Sound at Parry Sound, Ontario, before the China tour. It was performed by seven leading Canadian musicians, Moshe Hammer(violin), Steven Dann(viola), Sophie Rolland(cello), Joel Quarrington(bass), Anton Kuerti(piano), Robert Aitken(flute) and James Campbell(clarinet). The piece was so warmly received both in Canada and China that a record has been released. It was also the most successful piece for the Canada-Hong Kong Festival, Hong Kong, 91. In addition, in 2002, successfully, the Canadian Symphoniatta performed its orchestral version, conducted by Tak-ng Lai, in Paris, France. However, Huang found the musical similarity of the two nations--the pentatonic mode. Written in Chinese idea, the septet gives the opportunity both to the Chinese and Canadian audiences to find themselves in each other through the Seven Canadian folk songs. The septet is divided into seven attacca parts. No.1 begins the music into a very quiet British Columbia Indian folk tune, performed by flute and clarinet, and occasionally, the piano gives few chords to support them. No.2 comes a Alberta Indian lyric song with all instruments. The folk songs of No.3 and 4 are Ontario Forest man’s old tunes which bring the music to the exciting part. The No.5 is a Saskatchewan Indian traditional tune, the war song. Its heavy dynamic shows the typical native Canadian rhythmic patterns. Wooden spoon is a Canadian folk instrument. The clarinet player plays it in No.6 of a vivacious Quebec folk dance. And in a Newfoundland lyric song, No.7, the septet goes to its brilliant ending. The attached mp3 was recorded a Russian master and Fei-ping Hsu, one of the greatest Chinese pianist. Duration: 18 min.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1073232 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 107 pages. DoReMi Edition #677496. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1073232). CHINESE RHAPSODY No.3 For Saxophone with various ensemble An-lun Huang Op.46(1988) Chinese Rhapsody No.3 was composed e in Toronto, Canada , 1988. Huang dedicated the piece to the Canadian Saxophonist Paul Brodie who premiered it in Parry sound of Ontario in the same year. Written in Saibei Folk Style, the music is divided into 5 movements without stop. As usual, Huang didn‘t use any folk song . But the typical taste of Huang’s “Zhang Jia Kou[張家å£] accent†is pretty easy to be identified. With the concert virtuosity, the 1st movement is composed as an emotional Cadenza which expresses the profound affections to the land of Saibei. Using the same Alto Sax., the lyric 2nd movement is followed by a folk dance, the 3rd movement. Chang to a Soprano Saxophone, the 4th movement is sound like a dreamy nocturne which is interrupted by the percussions of the fiery 5th movement. The whole Rhapsody ends on a climax of the Chinese Northern west “wind and percussion “styleâ€. Brodie found more than 300 trills in this piece. Perhaps this is the key to perform the music in real Chinese style. Huang has composed 5 versions of these pieces for different ensembles: saxophone solo with piano, or strings, or winds/brasses, or Chinese traditional orchestra, or symphony orchestra. The attached mp3 was performed by the German saxophonist Jurgen Demmler with pianist Peter Grabinger in 1996. Duration: 20’.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1009194 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Christmas,Classical. Score. 38 pages. DoReMi Edition #594856. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1009194). Based on the fairy tale “The Little Match Girl†by Hans Christian Anderson (1805-1875), the famous Danish writer, the Beijing Ballet School of China commissioned An-Lun Huang to compose this ballet in 1977. The play was written by Zhang Dun-yi, and the choreographers were Wu Fu-kang and Huang Buo-hong. The premiere took place in Beijing in 1977. It was performed by the school and the Central Opera House Orchestra, conducted by Zheng Xiao-ying. The music is written in Nineteen Century-Romantic style with some strong Scandinavian flavor. Margot Fonteyn, one of the most important ballet dancers of our age, claimed that “the composer has composed the very, very, very good music for this ballet ! “ She then produced a movie of it, which has been broadcasted by the PBS of U.S.A. in early of eighties. Since the great success of the premiere, this ballet and its music have been widely performed and warmly received. A tape of it was also released in China. This is the story of the ballet: In a little Danish town in the nineteenth century, Betty, a little girl who lost her mother, was selling matches along the street during Christmas time. The sound of the church bell reminded her that the time was quite late, but she was unable to go home until she completed her job. An old man came to light the street lights. He gave her some money and left. Betty tried to sell her matches to a carriage, but the carriage just ran away. Snow fell, cold and hungry, she lit a match on the wall to warm herself. A group of “Fire Fairies†appeared. They danced around her and got her warm. Since they disappeared so quickly, Betty lit another match. She saw a big dining room with a beautiful Christmas tree and a lot of food. While some bus boys were handing her a piece of roasted goose, the typical Danish Christmas food, a nobleman in a portrait hanging on the wall suddenly moved. Everything disappeared again. Betty immediately lit the third match, a “Swan Lake†with a beautiful garden appeared. She met her mother with tears because the mother had passed away for years. Mother got a pair of little red shoes for her as the Christmas gift and danced with her. The “Portrait nobleman†brought the mother out of the scene. Everything was gone but the snow storm. The church bell sounded again, with the morning dawn, the old man came to extinguish the street lights. He found the frozen body of the little girl.

Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1081699). “Toccata, Chorale and Fugue†was the last work composed by An-lun Huang during the time he studied at Yale University in 1986. It was commissioned and dedicated to the Yale cello professor Aldo Parisot who premiered the work with more than sixty young cellists at the Banff Art Center, Canada, in 1986. Cello ensemble is a challenge for composer because of the single instrumental color. In this particular work, Huang had made the Chinese music upon to a new level.-- not only melodic sense, but also harmonically and contrapuntal. It consists of three sessions. The first is a virtuoso Toccata, the second is a chorale typed Adagio, and the third is a double Fugue in five voices. Bach‘s name, B-A-C-H, forms the secondary theme of the fugue. The recording attached was performed by Prof. Kirill Rodin(First price of Tchaikovsky Competition) with his students, plus one double bass, in Moscow Conservatory, 2001. The pentatonic mode is often found in Chinese folk tunes, in which a triad chord is seldom found. However, the Bunungese actually “enjoy†the sonority (the pitch and the tone) of the major triad. The modern civilization has yet to adapt to their wild and natural style. Usually, their folk song would be a chorale led by a leading singer, followed by the crowd. In the morning, facing the rising sun, the people with their colourful clothes, gather in a circle and dance to the rhythmic music. Located in far east Asia, the Bunungese may well be the first people to praise the rising sun to celebrate the new century with songs and dances. This is the reason why the composer chose to complete the commission in the Bunugese style. æ¤å½•éŸ³ä¸º2000å¹´é»„å®‰ä¼¦æŒ‡æŒ¥åŠ æ‹¿å¤§å®¤å†…ä¹å›¢åœ¨å¸•é‡Œæ¡‘音ä¹èŠ‚首演的实况.é’¢ç´æ˜¯æ¬§é˜³ç‘žä¸½,æ°‘ä¹éƒ¨ä»½ç”±å¤šä¼¦å¤šçš„敦煌室ä¹å›¢æ‹…ä»».

Commissioned (1995) by the Wood Wind Group of the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, this quintet was arranged from An-lun Huang’s piano Sonatina of the album “30 Pieces in Saibei Folk Styleâ€(op.13). It has been premiered successfully by the Group in the same year. It consists of 3 movements. The 1st movement is a vivid Sonatina which connecting a recitative typed 2nd movement, the music concludes with a humorous Rondo as the 3rd movement. .

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1073229 Composed by An-lun Huang. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 33 pages. DoReMi Edition #677492. Published by DoReMi Edition (A0.1073229). Chinese Rhapsody No.3 was composed e in Toronto, Canada , 1988.

SCORE @ Amazon ï¼?https://amzn.to/34qCMdz The Symphonic Concert No.2, is Huangâ??s second serial symphonic work in a large form. ----- The first part, Op.47a, is The Symphonic Overture No. 2, the second part, Op.47b, is the Violin Concerto in B in three movements. They are all published by Amazon. And the third part, Op.47c, is this Symphony in A flat major 'Phoenix' in 5 movements [62 minutes] The first two parts of the Symphonic Concert No.2 were premiered in Beijing by the China Youth Symphony Orchestra in 1997. However, the composing of the third part has been delayed. The reason is the author's Chinese heart: for thousands of years, the word deep disaster has been following this nation, but, however, the Chinese finally rise in the east of the world from the deadly dark. How can the composer present this symphony in the most appropriate form, and bring blessings to the world? Until the idea of Phoenix sigh inspired the author's rolling music. As a result, the structure of the entire symphony is: a total of five movements, the order is: 1.-ESSENCE ç²¾ Andante con molto 2.-SPIRIT æ°? Allegro assai 3.-DIVINITY ç¥? Larghetto 4.-PEACE å?? Vivo 5.-REVIVAL è?¾é£? Allegro assai con brio The fifth movement of this symphony, Revival, is the end of the entire Symphonic Concert No. 2. Its Phoenixâ??s Flame of Fire symbolizes the composer's powerful belief in the whole composition: Defeat death to obtain the eternal life. This point has a distinct manifestation in this final movement: from the beginning of the world turmoil to the evolution of the huge contrast of the brilliant chorus of the Phoenix; from the disaster making the Phoenix smashes into the fire of hell from the high heaven; its shocking description of self-immolation to the sound of the resurrection and the vitality of the folk instruments which simulate the voice of life from afar; and from the brilliant fire of the phoenix soars to the sky with roar of the organ at the end. The themes of all of the previous music are also interrelated. All of the players join the forces to create the powerful music that The Chinese symphony has never been sounded like this before, and it is all about achieving a brilliant future, the critic said in Peopleâ??s Music, the major music magazine in China, 2009.
