The motivation behind the ?layered solos ensemble effect? came from very successful learning and performing with the BegEnz harp books series.The idea is that the student harpist firstly learns a solo at level one. Then there are two versions of the solo, increasing in difficulty, and some parts which are accompaniment or harmonisation when they are played together. Harp one fits onto a fully levered 26 string harp (lowest string is C below middle C) and harps 2 and 3 fit onto 34 string harps.The first solo is always just a clear tune and single note accompaniment arrangement, so by the time they have successfully learnt this, and probably played it in the group, they know exactly how the piece sounds, and the structure of the arrangement. As they improve they can play a more challenging version, and/or stick to the easier part if playing in a group feels trickier. It?s all about having the confidence to take the next step up!The best thing about layered arrangements is that there is a good chunk of each version that can be used as a solo so you are practicing something that you can play without needing other harps to fill out the parts, but when you bring it all together you are still practicing very important ensemble skills ? listening to others, staying in time, being in tune, and being adaptive as a musician in a group.

Adso the Cat
This follows a snippet in the afternoon of a wee grey kitten as he explores the garden, finds flittery skittery things, chases, tumbles and eventually curls up for a nap.
This is a top favourite of the Auckland Harp Orchestra since 2016!
Written for early intermediate lever harp duo, or for trio - 2 early intermediate harps plus one late beginner.
Mostly in A minor/C major with one lever change in part 2. Includes harmonics, glissandos, etouffes, and some tight ensemble playing!

\'Feeling\' Festive\'Volume 1 of 101 Carols and Songs of CelebrationThis is the first of three volumes which make up the 101 Carols and Songs of Celebration. Thirty three songs from around the world, and two versions of three songs which had alternative melody lines. For intermediate harp, with a few lever pre-sets and changes, a wide variety of keys, arranged to fit on a 34 string harp. Also includes a range of harp effects.​65 pages in total.

Written during the second occurrence of lock down in Auckland, New Zealand, and in appreciation of the small wonders around us, \"Ten Duets for Lever Harp\" is a series of independent short pieces ? each between 1 and 2 minutes in duration, each with its own unique mood.

Little snippets of lock down life?. The Comfy Couch, The Bumblebee, Dancing in the Gentle Breeze? in a range of genres, with a few lever changes, and technical challenges, aimed at the intermediate harpist. These pieces also explore some different harp techniques such as glissandos, xylophonics, harp percussion, and harmonics effects.

The score has both parts written in an easy to see format.

I began composing this piece for three lever harps, on 31st October, 2019, and finished it in February the following year. Most of it was completed in the first sitting on Halloween 2019, but the ending was a little elusive... taking over three months for me to find! I was home alone on Halloween - ignoring any door knockers, I was determined to find my composing space and write something for my father, who died on Halloween 3 years earlier. Instead, I watched the sky darkening, and thought of the two lovely ladies I was intent on writing for, and decided that this was not going to be a sentimental tune for dad, but something that our harp coven could use to explore a number of different techniques on our harps, and every single string to boot! So... presenting - Ride the Night Skies - it can be bumpy, smooth, breezy and crazy out there riding those currents, broomstick, bat and cat on board and maybe a little Bach also.
