Harp, Lever Harp - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Traditional English. Arranged by Stephanie Bennett. Christian, Praise & Worship, Christmas, Recital. 8 pages. Published by Harpworld Music Co.
On Christmas night all Christians sing to hear the news the angels bring.<br> On Christmas night all Christians sing to hear the news the angels bring. <br> News of great joy, news of great mirth, <br> News of our merciful King's birth!<br> <br> This joyous Christmas song was first published by Luke Wadding, an Irish bishop, in a 17th century collection called Small Garland of Godly and Pious Songs. It became known as “Sussex Carol” in the early 20th century upon being collected by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, who heard it being sung by a folk singer in Sussex, England. He later included it in his choral settings, Eight Traditional English Carols and Fantasia on Christmas Carols.<br> <br> This lever harp arrangement is in the key of G (with a short section in D mixolydian for variety, from measures 56 to 65). There are no lever changes. It is suited for harps with at least 34 strings.<br> <br> The right hand has the melody most of the time, with the left hand accompanying; but the left hand gets to take center stage from measures 33 through 47; again from measures 86 through 89; and again at the end, from measures 100 through 106.<br> <br> This arrangement is great for all Christmas events, from church services to concerts to parties. <br> The YouTube video shows the pedal harp arrangement, which is exactly the same as the lever harp arrangement except that it is in the key of G flat instead of G; and it has ONE extra very low note at the very end.<br> <br> For more harp arrangements by Stephanie Bennett, please subscribe to HarpworldMusicCo on Youtube, and visit www.harpworld.com/sheetmusic.html. <br> I hope you enjoy sharing this cheerful song with your listeners, during many happy holidays! - Stephanie Bennett

Christmas Calypso for Percussion Sextet

Percussion Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935389 Arranged by Dan Heslink. Christian,Christmas. Score and parts. 18 pages. Pharaoh Publications #6117159. Published by Pharaoh Publications (A0.935389). Christmas Calypso for Percussion Sextet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . arr. Dan Heslink The calypso style referenced in the title is not the calypso of Afro-Caribbean music from Trinidad and Tobago. Rather, it is the especially toned-down but still rhythmic commercial variant popularized by folk singers. Couched in this style, the arrangement offers Christmas favorites Deck the Halls, Angels We Have Heard On High, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Good Christian Men, Rejoice. This if one of two versions of the calypso arrangement by Dan Heslink, both of which are available through Sheet Music Plus. The other arrangement, percussion sextet, follows similar musical contours and is available separately. Both versions are intended to elicit one primary response from both performers and audience – fun. It does not tax the players technically, but delivers a satisfying sound with carols that the performers likely know and love. General audiences will be enchanted by the familiar melodies delivered in percussion, especially at Christmas time. The introduction opens with a brisk and rhythmic introduction based on Deck the Halls, and establishes the fun calypso rhythm immediately. Deck the Halls is the much-loved welsh air that was arranged by Haydn, Nos galan (Hob. XXXIb:29, 1803). Then, Angels We Have Heard on High breaks out in double-stops with a continuation of the rhythmic impetus. The birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke is the subject of Angels We Have Heard on High, a traditional French song of unknown origin. The gloria section provides some flowing contrast, portraying the shepherds’ impressions as they encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising. The performers are encouraged to use a relaxed stroke to glide through these passages. Following is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, a 16th century English traditional Christmas carol also known under the title, The old Christmas Carol. It provides a contrast in tonality (minor mode) and texture. The xylophone part likely will lay most comfortably when executed with four mallets, although there are no three or four mallet chords in these passages. Good Christian Men, Rejoice is the closing selection in this Christmas medley. It’s title is an English translation of In dulci jubilo (Latin for In sweet rejoicing). The work ends happily with a summation of the calypso rhythm. This medley will be especially effective programmed on a winter holiday concert. Duration is 2:30. The arranger, Dan Heslink, assigned a difficulty level of medium easy, and can be contacted at dan@dheslink.com.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522188 Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship. Score and parts. 190 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6403623. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522188). This essential collection may be all you ever need for your wind instruments at Christmas. It's a bargain price too! These arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. The publication consists of a four-staff score in concert pitch together with fifteen separate parts in various transpositions plus a simplified optional keyboard part. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. These four-part arrangements use flexible instrumentation so that you can exercise considerable control over the instrumental voicing or use them for non-standard ensembles. You can also create interesting instrumental tone color by omitting groups of instruments. If the ensemble is large enough you could omit brass instruments in the quieter sections, or use a solo trumpet against a woodwind background. There are endless possibilities. The complete set includes: Part 1 in B flat, E flat and C; Part 2 in B flat, E flat and C; Part 3 in B flat, E flat, F and C and Part 4 in B flat, E flat and C. Parts 1 and 2 in C have been printed an octave higher than the pitch shown in the score because invariably the parts lie too low for flute or oboe. For elementary players, a Part 1 in C (low) is included at concert (score) pitch. Parts 3 and 4 in C are in the bass clef. The arrangements could be played by virtually any combination of conventional wind band instruments. Using the optional keyboard part they could also be used as solos, duets or trios. The scores and all the parts are contained in a single 190-page PDF file. Please note that these arrangements are not necessarily compatible with other Kirkpatrick arrangements published by Glyn Joseph Editions. The collection incuers the following favorite carols: Angels We Have Heard On High (Gloria); Lo, How a Rose E’er blooming (Es ist ein Ros entsprungen); O Come, O Come Emmanuel (Veni Emmanuel); The First Noel; Ding Dong! Merrily on High (Bransle de l’Officiel); O Come All Ye Faithful (Adeste Fidelis); Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (Mendelssohn); Go Tell It on the Mountain; O Little Town of Bethlehem (St. Louis); O Holy Night (Cantique de Noël); Silent Night (Stille Nacht); Away in a Manger (Mueller); Joy to the World (Antioch); O Christmas Tree (Tannenbaum); We Three Kings (Kings of Orient); I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (Waltham); What Child is This? (Greensleeves); God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen; Good King Wenceslas (Tempus Adest Floridum) and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

(+)
Cello,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548509 Composed by Wade. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 4 pages. Jmsgu3 #3388103. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548509). O Come All Ye Faithful arranged with new harmony for the final verse. Score: 3 pages, part: 1 page. O Come, All Ye Faithful O Come, All Ye Faithful is an English translation of the Latin Christmas carol Adeste Fideles. No one knows exactly who wrote it, but one theory is that it was originally composed by King John IV of Portugal (1604–1656) and revised by John F. Wade and John Reading. Nowadays, we usually attribute it to John Wade. The oldest manuscript from 1751, is owned by Stonyhurst College in Lancashire. Lyrics The English translation O Come, All Ye Faithful was certainly written by Frederick Oakeley, a Catholic priest in 1841. This translation is the most common in English speaking states. To begin with, the hymn had only four verses. Later, the verses grew to eight. Often, various verses are omitted because otherwise, the song is just too long. Some believe the first Latin lyrics were written by St. Bonaventure (13th century) or King John IV of Portugal in the 17th. Though others think it was written by the Cistercian monks. King John IV King John IV of Portugal was called The Musician King. He became king in 1640. In addition to performing the duties of a king, he was also a composer and music journalist. King John built a very large music library. Unfortunately, the library was ruined in 1755 because of the massive earthquake of Lisbon. In addition to his library, the king started a Music School that produced many accomplished musicians. The king also worked diligently to get instrumental music approved by the Vatican for use in his churches. Aside from his authorship of Adeste Fideles, he is famous for another popular choral setting of the Crux Fidelis, a prevalent Lenten hymn. Performance in Context As mentioned above, verses are sometimes left out because all eight verses would take too long to perform. More to the point though, some of the verses may be unsuitable for whatever of the church calendar they are intended. The eighth verse deals with the Epiphany, so it makes sense to sing this on Epiphany Sunday, but not other Sundays. Similarly, other verses are used according to whether the event is Midnight Mass or regular daytime Mass. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730418). The Piano Vocal Score (with SA Chorus) New Contemporary Classical Music from American Costa Rican composer James Nathaniel Holland in his masterful ballet adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale, The Snow Queen. Ballet yet to be premiered. Be the first to produce it! Highlights are The Dance of the Evil Snow Sprite and the Distorted Mirror, Innocence and Kai and Gerde's Special Friendship, The Waltz of the Roses ('Think of my love as a Rose'), The Waltz of the Snowflakes (Snowbees), Gerde Morns Kai's Death, The Suite of the Lady of Spring (Tale of the Tiger Lillies, The Dream of the Morning Glories, The Tale of the Snowdrops, the Hyacinth's Tale), The Waltz of the Summer Palace, Dance of the Thieves and Kai's Joyous Dance Finale. Ballet Synopsis: Evil Snow Sprites make a mirror that reflects all that is mean and evil. When it shatters, its splinters drift to the far corners of the world. Gerde and Kai are two poor children who live in Copenhagen in the early 19th Century. They live innocently with their parents and Grandmother and tend a rooftop rose garden. One winter night Kai meets the Snow Queen and a splinter from the mirror enters his eye. The Snow Queen returns and abducts Kai. Although accepted as dead, Gerde deeply feels otherwise and begins her quest to find her friend, traveling through the four seasons, sometimes beautiful and sometimes frightening. The Lady of Spring takes her as an addition to her fantastical garden filled with tales and dreams of the flowers who dwell there. But when Gerde sees the rose on Spring's bonnet she wakes from her enchantment. Her tears spring back the roses who tell her Kai is not dead. She flees from the garden. Gerde grows up in the wilderness and a crow says that he has seen Kai at the Palace of the Queen of Summer. They hurry there to find a magnificent ball in progress. Gerde is introduced to the Kai lookalike but knows something is not right. The Queen of Summer helps Gerde on her way and lends her a coach and gives her a magic red rose that will never fade.As coach searches for Kai, it enters the season of Autumn and is accosted by robber girl and a band of theives. They dance in an rousing, energetic dance taunting her. When the morning comes Gerde tells her fellow captive animals of her quest to find Kai and that all hope is lost. The pigeons finally tell Gerde that Kai was abducted by the Snow Queen many years ago. The robber girl overhears them and has a change of heart letting her go with her reindeer to the far North of the Snow Queen.Gerde finds Kai in the palace of the Snow Queen piecing together the evil mirror. She gives Kai up for dead but leaves the rose of summer beside him. Kai spots the rose and he sheds a tear. The splinter falls out and he completes the mirror. They head back for home to their families were there is a big finale of a beautiful wedding on a late summer day and live happily ever after.YouTube Complete Ballet presentation: https://youtu.be/-zDAJ-Ttw70Composer website: http://lacoronadelossantos.net/jamesnathanielholland.htmlTwo part performance CDs sold separately. Seems like Stonyhurst College in Lancashire owns the oldest manuscript. It is from the year 1751. Lyrics Frederick Oakeley, a Catholic priest in 1841 wrote the English translation. This translation is probably the most common in the English-speaking states. To begin with, the hymn had only four verses. Later, the verses grew to eight. Music directors often cut various verses because otherwise, the song goes too long. Some believe that St. Bonaventure wrote the first Latin lyrics. Others hold that King John IV of Portugal is responsible. Yet even others think the Cistercian monks wrote them. King John IV His subjects called King John IV of Portugal The Musician King. He became king in 1640. In addition to performing the duties of a king, he composed and wrote as a music journalist. King John built a very large music library. Unfortunately, the massive earthquake of Lisbon ruined the library in 1755. In addition to building his library, the king started a Music School that produced many accomplished musicians. The king also worked diligently to get instrumental music approved by the Vatican for use in his churches. Aside from his authorship of Adeste Fideles, he is famous for another popular choral setting of the Crux Fidelis, a prevalent Lenten hymn. Performance in Context Verses are sometimes left out because all eight verses would take too long to perform.
