Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqIQfHGxLEg&feature=youtu.be With thoughts leaning and reflecting on the end on Fall, and November, I can’t help but notice the beauty of fall and the trees and foliage. This wonderous little musical piece , from the motion picture The Lorax from the Dr. Seuss movie, depicts of the main character the Lorax speaking for the trees and in many ways advocating for all things, people and groups that can not speak for themselves. And even in the times that we live in, this story still rings true today. And beauty can still be found in sadness, or endings whether the be falling leaves in the park, or even with the events that are said , we grow and learn, being grateful for what we have , and learn to find our voices to speak out for the things that truly matter in life. This music, which is much like a hymnal, especially in the beginning of the piece, is perfect for this message. A message of peace, reflectiveness and hope and courage. As a side note , this piece should be played with lots of thoughtful rubato, and when the meter changes for 4/4(5/4) to 12/8, the beat does not change from quarter to dotted quarter .In the middle, minor section, I really added and improvised my musical skills per chord and melody of the song which makes my arrangement very distinctive, individual and unique. This would be great for a movie themed concert, all by it's self, for a funeral, for Arbor Bay/ Tree ceremony , for fall or autumn music/ themed programs, recitals, etc. Sure to be a well used piece in your collection. Scored for piccolo, flute 1, 2, 3 4, alto and bass flute. This piano solo captures the beauty of their flight as they glide so effortlessly through the air.There’s A Cow In The Garden Eating The Flowers Inspired by the memory of seeing an unexpected cow in the garden! This surreal image is captured in a quirky waltz, as I portray both the absurdity of the moment and the sense of wonder I felt as a child. The final phrase articulates my longing: ‘I wish it would come again’.Watching The World Go By A short, reflective piece, remembering what it was like to have time to just sit and watch the world go by from my bedroom window.Autumn Skies A miniature about the beauty of Autumn skies and the poignant sense of loss for a summer gone.Friends I was fortunate to have several children of my own age living close by. We seemed to be forever making dens, playing out in the street and generally enjoying each other’s company. This piece reflects that sense of well-being.Snake In The Pond One hot summer I was astonished and scared to see a grass snake cooling off in our garden pond! I watched, both horrified and fascinated, as it rose up from the depths and then disappeared again.Morning Commute I recollect many mornings stuck in traffic as my Dad took me to school on his way to work. We may not have chatted a lot, but it was always good to be together with my Dad, lost in our own thoughts.The Witch’s Cottage My siblings and I had a fascination with a small cottage nearby. It was set back from the road in a dark part of the woods and we called it 'the witch's cottage’. Every time we passed, I imagined I heard the distant cackle of the witch and wished I could catch a glimpse of her.These pieces are written to complement my other collection, Night Time Impressions, which also draw on childhood recollections, particularly of the woods behind the house where I grew up.Sarah Baker2023.

Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMF186). 9 x 12 in inches.The creation of Rustic Serenade was quite different from the majority of my other compositions; it happened quite by accident with absolutely no thought out plan. I always carry manuscript paper with me to jot down melodies and other musical thoughts that pop into my head but never an entire piece of music. The following is how that all changed.Being an avid hiker, I set out one early autumn day. It was one of those wonderfully crisp, clear days that only New England offers. As I rounded a bend of the forested mountain trail there was a stony promontory that offered an unparalleled view of the valley below with its rolling pastures and farmlands and, still more distant, a waterfall. I followed the narrow ribbon of water with my eye as it twisted and wove its way through the trees and periodic meadows until I found myself gazing down onto a small village. Actually, it was more like a tiny hamlet, a few homes, two or three stone buildings, a small white church, a commons complete with bandstand and gardens and a mill with its waterwheel slowly spinning from the water that was diverted through a sluice from the river. As I continued to observe the scene below I became cognizant that within my mind I was hearing the soft pizzicato of a cello. It was soon followed by a viola in imitation and then finally the violins joined in, first with melody and then harmony. The solution was to extract the manuscript paper and pen from my backpack and write down what I heard.

In a large-scale art project, prisoners serving a life sentence at the Clairvaux high-security prison in north-eastern France were interviewed by the composer, who set their stories to music. The piece is incredibly dark, coloured by the innermost thoughts of individuals who know they will never again be free, people who are slipping into oblivion. Clairvaux wasn't always a prison, though - it was formerly an important monastery. Established by St. Bernhard in 1115 and closed in connection with the French Revolution, Clairvaux is a mythic place. For some, it is an abbey where thousands of monks voluntarily chose the path of saints, plunging themselves into the blessed silence of darkness. For others, it is a prison, the sheer name of which inspires terror and generates horrific images. My intention was that we, with our concert, would create a bridge between the present and the past, between incarceration and voluntary solitude. So I sought out the historical sources for our earliest notated music, from the French abbey of Solemn, and composed a variety of versions based on Gregorian themes. The first descending minor second plays as a main motif and development through the entire piece. The overlapping, accumulating phrases, represent as the softly sighs, continuously emerging the emotions of the deepest and infinite thoughts to the love one. In Memoriam was composed in memory of one of the composer’s best friends, Mister Andrew Chew’s late wife, Xiu-Gui Hsu. It was premiered in May 2002 at Hong-Gah Museum by Wan-Chen Hsieh (Oboe) and Chun-Chiang Chiu (Piano).
