Here is George Gershwin's version of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles, which I arranged based on a Gershwin piano roll from the early 20th century. It was held in a private collection for decades. Here for the first time is my sheet music arrangement for this classic from long ago. Before he was famous, George was what was known as a song plugger. He would play newly composed songs to help generate record sales. In the early 20th century, many homes had player pianos. George's performance was preserved on such a roll and is only now available to the general public.Composed in 1918 by John W. Collette. The phrase “blowing bubbles” symbolizes the act of chasing dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Just like soap bubbles that float away and disappear, dreams can be elusive, fleeting, and transient. The very popular official march of the United States, composed by John Philip Sousa, arranged for solo classical guitar (written here in both standard notation with TAB) by Bradley Powell, aka The Candlelight Guitarist. It is an advanced intermediate to advanced level of finger-style classical guitar. NOTE: This same arrangement is also available without the TAB (Standard Notation only). ABOUT: Bradley Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. Brad is also the classical guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disneyland's Grand Californian Resort. In My Life is a song by The Beatles released on the 1965 album Rubber Soul, written mainly by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. George Martin, who produced the recording, contributed the instrumental bridge. It is ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time as well as fifth on their list of the Beatles' 100 Greatest Songs. The song was recorded on 18 October 1965, and was complete except for the instrumental bridge. At that time, Lennon had not decided what instrument to use, but he subsequently asked George Martin to play a piano solo, suggesting something Baroque-sounding.Martin wrote a Bach-influenced piece that he found he could not play at the song's tempo. On 22 October, the solo was recorded with the tape running at half speed, so when played back at normal pace the piano was twice as fast and an octave higher, solving the performance challenge and also giving the solo a unique timbre, reminiscent of a harpsichord.I have arranged it for a woodwind trio of flute, clarinet and bassoon. However, his body and scope of work extend well beyond the marches which made him so famous. In a rough accounting of Sousa’s body of work, marches make up only the second most numerous of his efforts – some 135 march compositions versus over 320 arrangements and transcriptions for Band. Outside of his marches, most of the Sousa catalog, including his humoresques, remains unpublished and largely unheard today. By way of an old Sousa concert program, we learn the narrative of his humoresque Among My Souvenirs. In it, the Nichols song Among My Souvenirs is lengthened into a sketch. Among his souvenirs is a photograph, letters and a broken heart. As he meditates, he goes back to a time before he was broken-hearted and remembers when he and his beloved were softly singing Twinkling Stars are Laughing, Love. Next, his mind reverts to the time when he was Seeing Her Home, recalling the songs of years gone by at Aunt Dinah’s Quilting Party – he was Seeing Nellie Home. After this, he travels to the Far East, and visions of The Road to Mandalay come to him. From there, he meditates on the Sweet Mysteries of Life and, finally, arrives at the closing picture in which he is once more Among my Souvenirs.
