The pdf file contains the original score (in letter format) followed by the somewhat larger copy with dedication by the composer and fingerings by Valentin Bogolubov who premiered the 3 Chromicons.<br> <br> The sound sample is the live performance.<br> <br> The Three Chromicons were premiered by pianist Valentin Bogolubov at the Société de concerts de St-Bruno, Saint-Bruno, Quebec, Canada, on 27 January 2007. Bogolubov's adventurous, technically demanding program, which also featured the works of Alexander Scriabin and Jean Chatillon, was accompanied by video animation of numerous works of art, four of which were created by the composer (among them, the Chromicon No. 3).<br> <br> Ford explains the significance of these unique scores:<br> <br> "In both my earliest chromicons, which I had begun to create by the 1980s, and in those I continue to make today, color is the element that links what is seen to what is heard. Unlike composer Alexander Scriabin, who may have been a true synaesthete as the result of a rare neurological condition enabling him actually to hear colors, my approach to color music has been by way of analogy. Although the tones in a musical scale and the colors of a prism both result from specific vibratory frequencies, scales can be replicated in various octaves while there is no comparable transposition observable in the case of the spectrum. However, the analogy between pitch and hue is implicit in the term "chromatic scale" (the Greek chrôma signifies "color"), and on that basis it is possible to equate the twelve tones of Western music with the hues on a twelvefold color wheel: red, red-orange, orange, yellow-orange, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green, blue, blue-violet, violet, and red-violet."<br> <br> "By placing the pitch names of the chromatic scale in a separate band around the periphery of a such color wheel, much like the numbers on the face of a clock, and by rotating the central color wheel, it is possible for any given pitch to be aligned and associated with any hue. Such an easily constructed device, which I have dubbed the "chromonomicon," is the key necessary to decipher the musical meaning of my chromicons. The chromicon can be thought of as a calligraphic text in which each discrete area of color is a separate letter."<br> <br> "Although there are literally millions of possible colors, all of them can be categorized as one of the twelve hues shown on the chromonomicon. Instead of being written from left to right or from right to left, the color-letters in a chromicon are arranged concentrically. The shapes of the individual letters, usually painted in watercolor and "illuminated" with metallic paints, colored pencils, and other media, are the result of each artist's creative meditation. The personal meaning of the chromiconic text as a whole emerges during and after this meditation, and may be expressed by a conventional title or accompanying commentary."<br> <br> "Now, anyone wishing to realize a chromicon is at liberty to follow any path—straight or curvilinear—from the centermost letter to the periphery, constructing a cantus (melody) by notating the musical pitches associated with each contiguous color-letter encountered along the way. The cantus thereafter serves as the structural basis of a new, freely composed work. The individual pitches in the cantus may be moved to any octave, and may be repeated any number of times before proceeding to the next pitch in the sequence. Customarily, once the final tone of the cantus is reached, the entire melody is heard in reverse (retrograde), resulting in a palindrome. That palindrome is itself subject to varied repetition, so that in formal terms, each realization of a chromicon amounts to a 'mirror' theme with variations."<br> <br> "Chromicon No. 3 travels even further back in collective human memory to the eighteenth century. For all its contemporary melodic and harmonic inflections, the style is pervasively contrapuntal, summoning to mind the polyphonic keyboard textures of Bach and Handel. Page 1 and Page 2 of this Rock Piano Practice Session 4 takes a 4 measure Rock piano I-VIdom7-II-V chord progression through all 12 keys around the cycle of 4th.s. Notice the descending chromatic bass line from the I chord to the VIdom7 chord. This progression is in the style of Baby I'm Yours by Barbara Lewis. Page 3 shows the 8 measure progression going back and forth from the key of A and B. The audio file that accompanies the sheet music is split into 4 sections, Part 1 consists of the piano playing along with the rhythm backing tracks in all 12 keys. Part 2 consists of the rhythm backing tracks in all 12 keys for practicing purposes. Part 3 consists of the piano playing along with the rhythm backing tracks in the 12 bar blues progression format in the keys of A and B. Part 4 consists of the rhythm backing tracks in the 12 bar blues progression format in the keys of A and B to practice with. Optional MIDI files are available separately for a fee, contact sales@adgproductions.com With using software such as the free programs Musescore or Garage Band you will be able to do the following with the MIDI files: 1. Slow the tempo down to your skill level. 2. Change the key, allowing you the option of transposing the patterns into keys other than the written key. 3. Use the loop function to practice difficult measures repeatedly. 4. Use these patterns for ear training exercises by slowing the tempo down and looping a certain section repeatedly, try to play the correct notes using your ear rather than reading the music. Nocturne is basically a segue to the first movement, in which Marie yawns and goes back to sleep! The harmonies are rich and yet somnolent. 3. Camp David is a sprightly number based on the Yiddish folksong Ikh bin a meidel in de joren - I am a maiden come of age and I am looking for a husband. 4. Blue Boar Blue is based on a poem by a friend stuck studying in his college room (Blue Boar Quad at Christ Church Oxford) but dreaming of sunny outings to the river and punting. For example, in the tablet versions, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. His international career and reputation led him to work closely with many of the leading musicians, artists and literary figures of his time, and he was a sought-after keyboard instructor and a teacher of composition. ♫ From an early age, Busoni was an outstanding if sometimes controversial pianist. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory and then with Wilhelm Mayer and Carl Reinecke. For example, in the tablet versions, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. But with a tablet the cost of paper and ink is irrelevant. ♫ Although there are a lot more page turns with a 10 inch screen compared with letter size pages, the readability of the music (due to the backlighting on the tablet) and the portability of the music (travelling with a small tablet instead of oversized books or portfolios of sheet music) easily makes up for the extra page turns. ♫ Your purchase provides one .pdf file that contains both the tablet edition and the letter size page (printable) version. This piano solo is built entirely on whole-tone (whole step) scales and clusters and could be taught by rote. The whole-tone scale is also called the hexatonic scale because it is comprised of 6 tones (consecutive). It is the opposite of the chromatic scale which moves by half-tones (half-steps). Blue was created to be performed languidly in 6/4 with quarter note = 105 and liberal use of both damper and soft pedals, it expresses musically the feeling of floating. Explores 4 octave range. Created to be performed very expressively and with some rubato, the student enjoys exploring almost entire keyboard. Form is A B A B Fingering is made up entirely in each hand of 2 3 4 with some crossing over of hands. Great piece for beginners and how to perform an ending with finesse this ending being a low cluster held by the 6 full counts plus a fermata, teaches one how to continue the dreamy mood in this setting entirely opposite from ending with finesse on my Orange-this being flashy with ending. Defined as a cool color, blue is one of the 3 primary colors. Like the color green, serene blue evokes feelings of calmness and relaxation. Some even speculate that just looking at the color blue causes the body to create chemicals that are calming. Blue is also symbolic of stability and reliability, inspiring use of this color in the business world in advertising. It is the color of the sky and ocean (reflecting the sky).
