Parts 1 and 2 (soprano and alto) are provided in B flat, E flat and C (8ve higher than concert); Part 3 (tenor) in B flat (9th above concert), E flat, F and C (bass clef) and Part 4 (bass) in B flat, E flat and C. Each of the six elementary solos in this series explores the different emotions various colors evoke and/or represent. Yellow is one of the 3 primary colors and is cheerful, warm, bright, and promotes laughter. The entire series (6 pieces) would make a grand recital program-especially since they range from primary/early elem. to late elementary. 'Yellow' is a beginner piece in key of C beginning in A section with hands around Middle C (but not in true Middle C position) creating a hands-divided melody with a tiny bit of harmony hands together. To be played 'cheerfully'. First two 4-note phrases are around middle C, then repeats 8va. Form in A B A coda. B section finds bouncing (staccato) broken octaves made easy by hands answering (or repeating) first note in measure (LH) an octave higher with RH. Back and forth they banter for 4 measures and repeat this phrase an octave higher and softer. Dynamic variations throughout the piece add artistry. Coda adds echo effect and ends with rit. and fermata. Touches: student learns legato in A section, staccato in B section. Time signature in common time with rhythmic values: quarter, half, and whole notes. Entire piece is over a 2-octave span (made easy!) As in all of solos in this series, 'Box of Paints', the piece is designed to be open-ended encouraging and inspiring the student to think of things they like in this color and compose their own lyrics, even composing their own music about their favorite color. I wrote As We Leave because I wanted my congregation to be able to sing an upbeat, justice-focused benedictory Amen with contemporary-sounding music and active lyrics that speak of God being with us out in the world, fuelling us for the work of loving people and restoring our beautiful, broken communities that God so loves. I don't know about your denomination or local church practices, but the section for Choral Amens in the hymnal I use is very limited. So, I composed five different versions of the lyrics, so that you can use this Amen throughout the whole year. The alternative lyrics begin with Advent, then provide words to sing together on Christmas Eve. Next, you can use the Epiphany lyrics throughout that season, and then return to the main lyric for Lent, switching to alternative lyrics for Holy Week, and then finally returning to the main lyric for Ordinary Time. If you are worshipping in a non-liturgical church, that's okay, too - use the standard lyrics all year, or switch things up by using one of the alternative lyrics whenever your Pastor is preaching on the themes mentioned in those verses! For $4.59 US, you are getting five different versions of the piece, and you'll be able to use As We Leave all year long, if you so choose. This is a great value for an Amen you can sing together Sunday after Sunday. The music is set in F Major and the accompaniment is simple enough for beginners and early intermediate accompanists. I've added guitar chords to the score as well as the piano accompaniment, for those who play by chord symbol. A YouTube video with embedded lyrics will also be added soon - so that congregations who are meeting digitally during the pandemic will have something to listen to and to watch as they sing along from home.

Notes:I wrote most of Hiraeth during the week between getting called to hospital and my grandmother passing away. Titled after a Welsh concept, Hiraeth is a combination of homesickness, longing, and nostalgia for things, places, experiences, and people far away or unreachable. The general melancholy is broken by occasional moments of clarity and memory before finality sets in.Performance Notes:Be expressive with tempo and treat dynamics as a guide. Every passing and experience of grief is unique, so reflect that in performance. The final notes of measure 90 should be played with as much sting and bite as possible, being a sharp and sudden return to stark, but unchanged, reality.
