Originally for csakan or 'romantic recorder' (tuned to G) and guitar, this arrangement, for soprano recorder and piano, offers the recorder part in the original printed key of G - so we play almost exactly the same fingering as the csakan. The guitar part, however, originally written out in the sounding key of C, has been arranged for piano and transposed to G. The piano part keeps as closley as possible to the simple unobtrusiveness of the guitar, with minimal filling out, mainly in the right hand. Metronome markings are ediorial. Slurs, dynamics, etc. are as in the original (where I have added simile, it is to be understood that the slurring of the preceding bars is to be followed all through). Nothing is known of the composer. The piece was published in Vienna in 1815.

DARKTOWN STRUTTERS' BALL - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Shelton Brooks wrote this bouncy little song in a different age - where Darktown was an area of a city much like Chinatown is today. It tells the story of the Ball where women would wear their finest dresses and men would strut - a sort of swaggering dance.Derek Hasted writes I first arranged this piece for the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra, in a Dixieland-jazz setting, which I have retained in this version for 4 guitars or a large ensemble. The bass part would also suit an octave (or contra) guitar reading from treble clef. This line is a little easier than the other lines, so it's ideal for a mixed ability ensemble as well as making a real contrast in a conventional guitar concert. In the final chorus, one can almost hear a tenor banjo above the bass, and a clarinet swirling above the tune. Audiences love this piece!

Ole Buttermilk Sky was primarily written as a cowboy song to set the scene where the character meets his lover.[3] The song also used jazz music for the lyric can't you see my little donkey and me. It was recorded in the December 14 issue of The Billboard that Ole Buttermilk Sky by Kay Kyser was at #1 .A version by Helen Carroll and the Satisfiers was at #8. Paul Weston and his Orchestra with Matt Dennis had their version at #9. For the week ending December 14, 1946, in the Most Played Juke Box Records chart, it showed that the song was getting many plays and there were five versions getting attention. Kay Kyser's version on Columbia 37073 had been on the chart was at #2. Hoagy Carmichaels version was at #5. Paul Weston and his Orchestra with Matt Dennis were at #9. Helen Carroll and the Satisfiers were at #15. And a version by Connee Boswell was coming up.[6].

When I first saw her dance and tumble at such a young age, I was so moved that I wrote this piece to celebrate her ability to amaze everyone with her dancing and tumbling. LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) was originally written and arranged for a small ensemble, band, stage band or combo with flexible instrumentation so that it may be performed with only two Saxophones (Alto Sax I and Alto Sax II) and a standard backup with Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums. In addition, any combo may be augmented by adding any or all of the parts included for Flute, Clarinet, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. This flexible or variable instrumentation of LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) makes it unique and perfect for schools and colleges that do not have a permanent roster of music students entering their music programs annually. It also eases the burden for Directors searching for good music to perform for groups with ever changing numbers of music students. What’s more, LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) has a section open for solos to enable the ensemble to feature players who can improvise well enhancing not only the group’s enjoyment but also everyone’s listening pleasure. This piece is composed in the same style of the other dances in the set - all of which have been performed by College and High School students in many major concert events along the East Coast with great success. It is published separately and in a set entitled PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES PART 1 from the sets PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES Part I and Part II. Each Part contains 3 Dances. It was originally composed for a small band with flexible instrumentation. It may be performed with only two Saxophones (Alto Sax I and Alto Sax II) and a standard backup with Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums. In addition, any combo may be augmented by adding any or all of the parts included for Flute, Clarinet, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. This flexible or variable instrumentation of JOEY’S READY makes it unique and perfect for schools and colleges that do not have a permanent roster of music students entering their music programs annually. It also eases the burden for Directors searching for good music to perform for groups with ever changing numbers of music students. What’s more, JOEY’S READY has a section open for solos to enable the ensemble to feature players who can improvise well enhancing not only the group’s enjoyment but also everyone’s listening pleasure. This piece has been performed by College and High School students in many major concert events along the East Coast with great success. It is published separately and in a set entitled PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES PART 2 from the sets PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES Part I and Part II. Each Part contains 3 Dances.
