An energetic new setting of the classic sacred text, "Cantate Domino" was commissioned as a competition piece by maestro Rolandas Daugela for the Cantate Domino International Choral Festival and Competition of 2017.

The piece opens with a triumphant fanfare, accompanied by an energetic rhythmic figure in the tenors and basses. This first theme is contrasted by the second section - a warm, contemporary "benedicite" theme, followed by a lyrical, folk-inspired "quia mirabilia". The final section is an exciting reprise of the first theme, but this time the tenors and basses carry the fanfare in four-part harmony while the sopranos and altos provide the driving accompaniment. In the final bars of the piece, the choir ascends in a powerful crescendo to a magnificent final cadence.

The solo could easily be shared between several singers in any section as it is set in an accessible range (D5 - D4 - Basses or Baritones sing it an octave lower). This arrangement features a fun call-and-response format, with some back-up harmonies that your choir will love singing, and starts and finishes with a building vamp section. Her compositions and arrangements are performed regularly by her own choir and others around the world and have won awards in songwriting competitions.
