This is an energetic song from the DIsney's Tony Award winning musical, Newies, which recently enjoyed its first UK run from February 2022 until July 2023 at the Troubadour Theatre in Wembley Park, a theatre which had only opened in 2019 on the site of a former TV studio. This arrangement for British Brass Band would bring an upbeat and boyant performance to your concert. Newsies was written by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman in 2011 and made its Broadway debut a year later. It won a Tony Award in 2013 for best original score. It was also the fastest Disney musical to turn a profit on Broadway, recouping its investment in just 7 weeks. The show was performed over 1000 times on Broadway.

The peasants probably sang and danced to this tune, even perhaps honoring their own folk heroes, the French dukes, dressed in their shining armor and carrying brilliant banners, as they marched off to the Crusades. Georges Bizet utilized this tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet's play L'Arlesienne (The Girl from Arles). There is a fugal section in which each instrument enters, playing an embellished version of the tune before concluding the arrangement. Also available are other settings of these two Traditional French melodies for a variety of instrumental ensembles as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles.
