Audiences equate effortless with easy, but it can be a bit of a beast to play well.Why this arrangement?I’ve lowered the key by one tone which makes many of the chords sound more mellow.I’ve fixed the ungainly jumps in the bass line which came as a constraint of playing up the neck on solo guitar.I’ve improved the connectivity of the middle voices from chord to chord so the chord changes sound more effortless and natural.A side effect is that everything is easier and the sustain seems more effortless.My duet arrangement comes in 2 formats... This one is a performance version (in which the workload is shared equally and there’s a truly effortless switching of parts in the middle), set in score only for two intermediate players.A separate one (for student and teacher) comprises a melody line and an arpeggio accompaniment, set in both score and score+tab. J.Raff, a Swiss/German composer was very prolific, and by the end of his life in 1882 was one of the best known German composers, though his work is largely forgotten today. Only one piece, a cavatina for violin and piano, is performed with any regularity and this is an effective transcription for Clarinet and Piano. An excelent concert item or encore lasting about 4 mins, and an interesting addition to own choice examination pieces. The piano accompaniment and parts for Bb and A Clarinet are included.

Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799619). The first of its kind, this is a customized Comtesse-only audition cut of En proie à la tristesse from Gioachino Rossini's Le comte Ory (1828). In the past, singers wishing to audition for this role would have to make a series of awkward cuts to eliminate the gaps created by the Comte and Isolier's lines, and deal with a needlessly inflated page count due to the choral parts, when performing this excerpt. The current edition omits and condenses those passages and, as a result, noticeably reduces the page count to 13. In addition, this new engraving is remarkably clearer than the existing French-language vocal score, which has deteriorated severely from age.The piano reduction itself has not been simplified or drastically altered (at the commissioner's request), although the engraving features minor changes from the original edition (for example, eliminating cross-staff chord notation, correcting some obvious typos, and reconciling details in the Ricordi and French editions).In this edition, the score cuts immediately from 2 measures after rehearsal 41 to the beginning of rehearsal 42 (so the Comtesse sings the last syllable of bonheur on the first downbeat of cut time and the C major/C minor sections are cut away completely). This brings the excerpt in line with most cavatina/cabaletta numbers that do not have a discernible break in between the two.About the Arranger: Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo enjoys a multifaceted career as a sought-after collaborative pianist, educational composer, arranger, coach, private teacher, and adjunct music professor. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q778629). The 9th String Quartet forms the penultimate work in my Beethoven Study quartet cycle. Chronologically, however, it was composed after the 10th Quartet Cavatina. And indeed, when composing it, it felt like the conclusion of the cycle. While the 6th Quartet Studie über Beethoven, which opened the cycle, was still in one movement, the 7th in two and the 8th in three, this 9th Quartet is a four-movement work. The sacred musical number 9 inspired me to create an especially substantial and intense composition. The second movement, a Scherzo, and the fourth movement Allegro alla marcia have become simply gigantic in their dimensions and in the density of information and impulses in comparison to their historical models. This 9th quartet has a particular focus on Beethoven’s still unattainable Quartet in C# minor op. 131. The radical nature and modernity of this work are still burning issues for us today. As in the other quartets in the cycle, I have been amazed at the new forms which have evolved during my preoccupation with their historical models and the extent of previously unknown spiritual depths in my own music during the process of composition. While my study of Beethoven's symphonies in the orchestral piece Con brio led to the discovery of new tonal possibilities for the orchestra (the timpani treatment!) and the juxtaposition of Beethoven's choral fantasy with the Latin Dies irae in my ARCHE oratorio made it possible to develop new theological and thematic points of focus, in the string quartet cycle it is above all the development and discovery of new forms that could only emerge through the study of Beethoven's quartets.
