This piece is an adaptation of a choral work by Chancellor, which is a meditation on I John 4:10. This version is set for young band. The harmony is conceived in 4 parts as in the choral work and is divided throughout the ensemble with a fair amount of doubling. The plaintive lyric melody begins in the clarinets and is passed to the brass and then to the flutes. After featuring individual instrument groups, the piece culminates in a closing tutti section.

Jura is one of the Scottish isles known as the Inner Hebrides, aseries of islands off the southwest coast of mainland Scotland. It’sfairly bare and mountainous terrain is offset by the comforts oflively folk dancing and especially excellent Scotch whiskey. Thispiece seeks to encapsulate the character of a lively Scottish jig. Asone might expect, the horn players have enjoyed a few roundsduring rehearsal and toward the end of the piece, the 1st horn (alittle tipsy) starts playing the short call from Siegfried ad libitum.

Published by Solitarius Press (A0.866387). The piece began in 2005 as a song dedicated to my wife, which remained unfinished because I was never satisfied with my lyrics. It eventually evolved into a work for concert band and has been adapted to other mediums including Horn ensemble. The opening text and title were inspired by the Navajo blessing may you walk in beauty which refersto the Blessing Way prayer. The title of this piece is a blessing, may the music be a blessing to you.It is originally written for a fairly large ensemble. There is enoughdoubling to adapt for a variety of instrumentations. It features solos for3 different parts. The primary countermelody is the bass line played bythe low horns at letter A and the main melody is introduced by the 1sthorn at letter B. The piece works most easily with 5-6 percussionistsbut may be done with as few as 3 by omitting the xylophone and havingthe same person cover the marimba and timpani parts.

In 1949, the Soviet occupation zone of Allied-occupied Germany became a socialist state under the name of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). For the nascent state's national anthem, the poet Johannes Becher, who later became the East German Minister of Culture, wrote the lyrics. Two musicians, Ottmar Gerster and Hanns Eisler, proposed music to Becher's lyrics, and Eisler's version was selected. History Written in 1949, the East German national anthem reflects the early stages of German separation, in which continuing progress towards reunification of the occupation zones was seen by most Germans as appropriate and natural. Consequently, Becher's lyrics develop several connotations of unity and combine them with fatherland (einig Vaterland), meaning Germany as a whole. However, this concept soon would not conform to an increasingly icy Cold War context, especially after the Berlin Wall had been erected in 1961 by the East German government.[1] In September 1973, East and West Germany were admitted to the United Nations simultaneously, following talks between the two governments that conferred a degree of mutual recognition. The term Germany was later removed from the East German constitution, and only the national anthem's tune was played on official occasions. No new lyrics were ever written to replace Becher's, which continued to be used unofficially, especially after die Wende in late 1989: once it became clear that the countries were actually moving towards reunification, East German television Deutscher Fernsehfunk reinstated the work and signed off every night with a joyous symphonic rendition of the vocal arrangement, with accompanying picturesque footage of East Germany's main tourist attractions. Auferstanden aus Ruinen ceased to be a national anthem when the German Democratic Republic dissolved and its states joined the Federal Republic of Germany as a result of German reunification in 1990. Deutschlandlied, composed in 1841, became the national anthem of a united Germany again. East German Premier Lothar de Maizière had proposed that Becher's lyrics be added to the united German national anthem, but this was rejected by his West German counterpart, chancellor Helmut Kohl. At the end of its last broadcast on 2 October 1990, the East German international radio broadcaster Radio Berlin International signed off with a vocal version of the East German national anthem. In November 1995, Auferstanden aus Ruinen was played again when German President Roman Herzog visited Brazil. This was the first event at which the anthem had been played since the German reunification.

He graduated in Ljubljana and studied music in Prague, Vienna (Joseph Marx), Paris (Schola cantorum) and Basel (Felix Weingartner).He spent many years teaching composition at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, teaching composers such as Nada Ludvig-PeÄar, Zvonimir CigliÄ and Janez MatiÄiÄ whilst serving as a chancellor for a period and was a pianist, conductor, music writer, and director of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra based in the country's capital.His style reflected late romanticism with qualities of expressionism and impressionism in his pieces, often with a hyperbolic artistic temperament, juxtaposing the dark against melodic phrases in his music.Å kerjanc was liberal in his attitude to music and multifaceted in his works. Whilst musically diverse, his opus centred on composition, varying from piano miniatures and solos for beginners, and solo and chamber works to full blown concertos and symphonies. Apart from sonatas, he notably composed a cycle of seven nocturnes, which many consider his greatest piano oriented work, and seven orchestral pieces Gazele (Ghazels). He not only composed for the piano but also the violin, the clarinet and the bassoon in 1952. During his life he also wrote for international composers and composed the film scores for a number of films under Yugoslavia.
