Organ - Digital Download SKU: A0.884998 Composed by Steven Nisbet. Christian,Contemporary,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 21 pages. Steven Nisbet #6111007. Published by Steven Nisbet (A0.884998). Wesley Suite The world is my parish, a set of four contrasting pieces for organ, is a tribute to John and Charles Wesley, 18th century clergymen and co-founders of the Methodist Church. The title Wondering Soul is a reference to the first line of the Wesleysâ Conversion Hymn, Where shall my wondering soul begin? which was written after John Wesleyâs Aldersgate Street experience in which he felt his heart was strangely warmed. Wesleyâs Gallop paints a musical picture of John Wesley riding on horseback around the towns and villages of England, preaching the Gospel in churches, halls, fields, cottages and chapels. Chapel Prayer is a reflective piece referring to Wesleyâs Chapel in City Road, London, a Methodist Church built under the direction of John Wesley. The word Liberty in the title of Liberty Fanfare refers to John Wesleyâs advocacy for the abolition of slavery. He wrote, Liberty is the right of every human creature. The piece contains musical references to two well-known hymns â (i) Amazing Grace, the words of which were written by his fellow abolitionist, friend and mentor, John Newton, as well as (ii) And can it be, the words of which were written by Charles Wesley.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Digital Download SKU: A0.1033304 Composed by Charles Wesley (lyrics), Alex Hartel (music). Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score. 1 pages. Alexander Hartel #6293837. Published by Alexander Hartel (A0.1033304). This is a congregational setting of a powerful hymn text written by Charles Wesley. Beginning with the line, Where shall my wondering soul begin?, these lyrics are believed by some to have been written shortly after Charles and John Wesley accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. The first stanza includes the well-known phrase, a brand plucked from eternal fire, a description which John Wesley often applied to himself and which had significant personal meaning for him. Brass Ensemble Bass Trombone,Euphonium,Flugelhorn,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1411272 Composed by James P. Johnson. Arranged by Charles Decker. 20th Century,Broadway,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show. 28 pages. Charles Decker Music Press #993606. Published by Charles Decker Music Press (A0.1411272). From the Music of Black Composers Series at Charles Decker Music Press is the The Charleston which debuted in James P. Johnsonâs Broadway 1923 show âRunninâ Wildâ to become the wildly popular and unofficial anthem of the Roaring 20âs.  An important jazz pianist and composer, Johnson was a major influence on Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Art Tatum, Thelonious Monk, and Fats Waller.  Arranged for a ten-piece brass choir of three B-flat trumpets, two horns in F with a substitute flugelhorns parts, three trombones or euphoniums with substitute horn for trombone 1, euphonium and tuba, the arrangement uses the original 1923 piano edition and retains the style of the day. The recording is of the entire edition.âThe Music of Black Composers Series is a welcome and timely addition to the brass repertoire. Interesting music, expertly arranged, fun to perform, and well received by audiences. Brass Quintet Cornet,Euphonium,Flugelhorn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1276031 Composed by James P. Johnson. Arranged by Charles Decker. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop,Ragtime. 21 pages. Charles Decker Music Press #867780. Published by Charles Decker Music Press (A0.1276031). From the Music of Black Composers Series at Charles Decker Music Press is the âThe Charlestonâ which debuted in James P. Arranged for a brass quintet of two B-flat trumpets with alternate C trumpet parts, horn in F with a substitute flugelhorn part, trombone or euphonium and tuba, the arrangement uses the original 1923 piano edition and retains the style of the day. The recording is of the entire edition.âThe Music of Black Composers Series is a welcome and timely addition to the brass repertoire. Interesting music, expertly arranged, fun to perform, and well received by audiences. These pieces are now permanently in my quintet book and I will be using them with my student groups as well. Highly recommended!â  Wesley Nance, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Eastman School of Music âI was so pleased to see the great works arranged for brass ensemble by Charles Decker Music Press especially the Music of Black Composersâ Series. Piano Accompaniment, Dan CutchenTime: approximately 6:00And Can It Be That I Should Gain? is a Christian hymn written by Charles Wesley. And Can It Be was written in 1738 to celebrate Wesley's conversion, which he regarded as having taken place on May 21 of that year. This beautiful hymn has been popular and enduring. And Can It Be That I Should Gain is perhaps one of the most joyfully poignant hymns penned by Charles Wesley (1707-1788). On Whitsunday (Pentecost), May 21, 1738, three days before his brother John experienced his heart strangely warmed,â Charles was convalescing in the home of John Bray, a poor mechanic, when he heard a voice saying, In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, arise, and believe, and thou shalt be healed of all thy infirmities. The voice was most likely Mr. Brayâs sister who felt commanded to say these words in a dream.Anglican hymn writer Timothy Dudley-Smith, notes that the following then happened:Charles got out of bed and opening his Bible read from the Psalms: He have put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God, followed by the first verse of Isaiah 40, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. He wrote in his journal, I have found myself at peace with God, and rejoiced in the hope of love Christ (Dudley-Smith, 1987, 1).The statement from Mr. Brayâs sister sparked within Charles a conviction like he had never felt before. Moved and convicted in spirit, Charles wrestled with these words until he came to rest in his faith, knowing that it is by faith we are saved (Ephesians 2:8).Soon after this conversion experience, he wrote two hymns in celebration of the amazing love he had come to know: And Can It Be that I Should Gain and Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin? (United Methodist Hymnal, 342)There has been some debate as to which hymn was written first, but most current scholarship accepts the latter as the first hymn written by Charles after his conversion experience. No matter its place in the chronology of Wesley's output, And Can It Be has been and remains one of his most remarkable hymns, expressing like no other the rapturous joy of receiving salvation. And Can It Be That I Should Gain. Published by Kevin P Holdgate (A0.1386967). And Can It Be That I Should Gain? is a Christian hymn written by Charles Wesley in 1738 to celebrate his conversion, which he regarded as having taken place on 21 May of that year. The hymn celebrates personal salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus, and is one of the most popular Methodist hymns today.Charles Wesley (1707â1788), along with his brother John Wesley, was one of the founding figures of Methodism. Like his brother, he was profoundly influenced by a religious conversion. Charles's experience took place on 21 May 1738 (the feast of Pentecost), and it inspired him to write two new hymns, And Can It Be that I Should Gain and Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin?. After this, Charles went on to become a prolific hymnodist, composing over 6,500 hymns. The original six-verse hymn And Can It Be? was first published in 1739 in John Wesley's hymnal, Hymns and Sacred Poems, with the title Free Grace. The hymn remains popular today and is included in many contemporary hymn books. In 2013, following a survey conducted by the BBC Television programme Songs of Praise, And Can It Be? was voted number 6 in the UK's Top 100 Hymns.
