Amen.The opening has the four parts in slow-moving homophonic chords, with at least two parts staying the same between each pair of chords, so it's very easy to stay in tune and find your note. Today, tonight and evermore is set as a 4-part canon, simple to pick up and not going too high or low, which develops back to a final Amen where the slow chordal shifts return. Entirely diatonic with no accidentals, but sounds fresh and more difficult than it actually is!This piece is SATB, no divisi, and should be suitable for most sacred occasions. The traditional tune Good King Wenceslas is here arranged for a three-part choir with sopranos (range C4-G5), altos (range G3-C5), and baritones (range A2-D4) - there is no additional divisi and it could be sung by a confident trio of soloists. The verses have extremely varied harmony, with all parts getting the melody at various times. Chromatic work in verses 3 and 4 gives a dark, haunting harmony before verse 5 returns with a bright 3-part fugue. This will be an enjoyable challenge for any SABar choir, without any part feeling bored or left out!
