The Story Of Reuben Clamzo & His Strange Daughter

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. âIs that you kids?â It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship⦠You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you knowâthem pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For â¦he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Candlemas Carol

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.505695 By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish,Jewish,Traditional. Octavo. 23 pages. Alan Wagstaff #117353. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.505695). This original song uses English folk idioms to retell a traditional snowdrop legend. The chorus is an English 'weather rhyme'. It has been set for choir (SSAA), piano, harp, fiddle, and flute. One of the Snowdropâs folk names is âEveâs Comforterâ; another âMaid of Februaryâ. Candlemas Carol Maid of February, if you will, grace mantle, hearth, and windowsill. So let us all be of goodwill and gather round, together. When Winter holds the world in thrall, and ice and snow lie over all, the Maiden can at once recall, the coming Summer weather. If Candlemas is fair and bright, cold Winter will take a second bite. But if this day brings clouds and rain, Winter wonât return again. When Eve and Adam left Eden fair, the snow and ice lay evârywhere, which filled their hearts with bleak despair, for they could find no pardon. They glimpsed the flowers of paradise, beyond the earthly cold and ice, but they could not be perfect, twice, nor get back to the garden. If Candlemas is fair and bright, cold Winter will take a second bite. But if this day brings clouds and rain, Winter wonât return again. A teardrop fell from Eveâs sad eye, and froze upon the ground close by. An angel raised it up on high, and called for Heavenâs power. The ice became a snowdrop, then. Thus hope returned to Eve again. And all the people say: âAmen!â in praise of Winterâs flower. If Candlemas is fair and bright, cold Winter will take a second bite. But if this day brings clouds and rain, Winter wonât return again. Alan Wagstaff The legend tells that, after Adam and Eve were banished from Edenâs perpetual summer, they wandered, despondently, into Earthâs freezing winter. Eve wept as the snow fell around them. Seeing her tears, an angel intervened. He caught a teardrop when it froze and breathed on it, turning it into a snowdrop. When the angel left more snowdrops sprang up. Thus, snowdrops in Winter, serve as a reminder, that better times will come around. The tale was often recalled at Candlemas: February 2nd.

Obelisk: A Tribute to Ukraine
B-Flat Clarinet,Cello,Flute,Percussion,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A…
(+)
B-Flat Clarinet,Cello,Flute,Percussion,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1283414 Composed by Eugene Astapov. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. 49 pages. EAMUSIC #874599. Published by EAMUSIC (A0.1283414). Obelisk is a work that was built as a response to the atrocious events happening in the war between Russia and Ukraine. As a composer who was born in Ukraine, I felt very deeply for the hardships of the people of my country and this work is a direct emotional response to the images I see and stories I hear. The central part of the work features pre-recorded interviews with some of the Ukrainian civilians telling their harrowing stories of loss, struggles, and fight for survival.  When I was a child, my parents made the difficult decision to leave the country due to the beginning of another war Russiaâs Putin started in Chechnya and my parents knew - one day he would be coming for Ukraine. As someone who immigrated to Canada at a young age, I experienced all the difficulties associated with finding new life in a new country. I saw the struggles of my parents and now I see the struggles being experienced by people fleeing Ukraine.  Throughout the work you will hear the sonic accompaniment to the pain and suffering that Ukrainians undergo on daily basis, you will hear their voices and see images of the brutality committed against the people of Ukraine. This is a heavy work to experience, but as an artist I feel it is only appropriate to raise awareness around the issue and show the people the horrors going on in the world.    The title of the work was inspired by the famous monument erected in 2001 to mark the occasion of the 10thanniversary of Ukraineâs Independence from the Soviet Union. At that point it appropriately replaced the monument of Vladimir Lenin. Towering on top of Kyivâs Independence Square (famously known as Maidan) at 200 feet, this obelisk celebrates the nature of the Ukrainian independent spirit and directly reflects my ideas through this musical composition with the hope that the powerful Ukrainian nation will prevail over its enemy once again.  This PDF includes Score and Parts.

Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.701496 Composed by Kevin G. Pace, Krista Mason Pace. Christian,Christmas,Easter,Praise & Worship,Sacred. 2 pages. Kevin G. Pace #3135415. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.701496). An original hymn. Could be used as a Christmas or an Easter hymn. Text by Krista Pace below.YouTube video: https://youtu.be/s21oDdYj2HcGreat are the words of prophets of old Who spoke of a King to come as foretold; A Savior, Redeemer, to rule and to reign; Taking our sorrow, grief, loss, and pain. Angels came singing, sent from above Revealing as promised, our Fatherâs love; Teaching the world of His plan for all men That through Godâs own Son, weâd come home again. Chosen of God, a virgin so fair Was blessed from on high, a Son she would bear, And call His name Jesus, for He was the One; His life to offer, Thy will be done. Angels came singing, sent from above Declaring glad tidings, our Fatherâs love; Shepherds and wise men would reverently bend For Jesus was born, the Savior of men. Women did come, their spices prepared; Still grieving the loss of life thus not spared. Then, finding the tomb with the stone rolled away Void of His body, cried in dismay. Angles came singing, sent from above Why seek ye the living? Our Fatherâs Love Rising, thus breaking the death bands to give A promise of life to all who would live. Seeking for truth, he knelt down to pray; Disturbed by the strife of men in his day. A pillar of light shone around this young boy; Christ and His Father answered in joy. Angels came singing, sent from above; Proclaiming the good news, our Fatherâs love; Full restoration of truth to the Earth; That all may rejoice, His gift of great worth. This Christmas (Easter) day, I ponder anew His birth, life, and death; my covenants true, And His resurrection that leads to my own; Prophets still leading, guiding me home. Angels are singing, sent from our home Protecting our children, loved ones who roam. One day we'll join them to sing in His light. Heâs coming again in glory and might.

Our Fatherâs LoveRising, thus breaking the death bands to giveA promise of life to all who would live.Seeking for truth, he knelt down to pray;Disturbed by the strife of men in his day.A pillar of light shone around this young boy;Christ and His Father answered in joy.Angels came singing, sent from above;Proclaiming the good news, our Fatherâs love;Full restoration of truth to the Earth; That all may rejoice, His gift of great worth. This Christmas (Easter) day, I ponder anewHis birth, life, and death; my covenants true,And His resurrection that leads to my own;Prophets still leading, guiding me home.Angels are singing, sent from our homeProtecting our children, loved ones who roam. One day we'll join them to sing in His light.Heâs coming again in glory and might.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1307229 Composed by Janice Kapp Perry. Arranged by Mark Gubler. Children,Christian,New Age,Religious,Sacred. Score. 5 pages. Mark Gubler #896486. Published by Mark Gubler (A0.1307229). The gospel of Jesus Christ is simple. We are commanded to love God and everyone around us. All the other commandments are given to point us to these two great commandments. In this arrangement the music surrounding the lyrics love one another as Jesus loves you keeps coming back throughout. It represents that though we may get distracted by all the things that we feel we should be doing, there is power in always returning and centering our lives around loving as Jesus loves.Song Lyrics 1. Iâm trying to be like Jesus; Iâm following in his ways. Iâm trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say. At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice, But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers, âLove one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do. Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, For these are the things Jesus taught.â 2. Iâm trying to love my neighbor; Iâm learning to serve my friends. I watch for the day of gladness when Jesus will come again. I try to remember the lessons he taught. Then the Holy Spirit enters into my thoughts, saying: âLove one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do. Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, For these are the things Jesus taught.â.

SATB chorus divisi - Digital Download SKU: BJ.1231 Composed by Enrico Miaroma. Secular. Octavo. 16 pages. Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital #1231. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1231). 8.27 x 11.7 inches.Contents:My song FarewellTwo compositions to lyrics by Indian Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore: My Song and Farewell. Enrico Miaroma, Italian composer and choral conductor, writes about the pieces: Farewell was composed in 2011 for a youth choir of 45 young adults, working and having fun together in Arco (Trentino), for one marvellous week together with Gary Graden and myself. My aim was to compose a piece that young choristers would appreciate after intense and joyful days together. Through my music I wanted to share the range of emotions and the hardship of parting when they were to go home to their native countries again. The choice of such a beautiful and evocative text helped me a great deal to achieve this. Farewell is recorded by S:t Jacobs Chamber Choir and Gary Graden on the cd To the Field of Stars (Footprint Records FRCD 083). My Song is like a little brother to Farewell. From the very beginning, I had a strong feeling that the assonance between the words of the title, 'my song', and 'my son', was intended by the poet. Throughout the composing process, this kept coming back to me, bringing my little son, Giovanni, who is four years old, to mind. I would like My song to be a gift from a father to his son, for his future life: 'This song of mine, my child, will wind its music around you'.John Quinn, MusicWeb International on Enrico Miaroma and Farewell: The choral writing is rich and he harnesses the emotions in the text most effectively. It's an eloquent piece, very well written for voices and it conveys well, I think, some of the emotions of valediction, including dignity..

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.826985 Composed by Rich Campbell. A Cappella,Contemporary. Octavo. 8 pages. Pay The Band Music #2031155. Published by Pay The Band Music (A0.826985). Text by Pulitzer Prize winning American poet Sara Teasdale (1884-1933). A pensive, reflective, universal coming of age theme; perhaps written with WW I in mind; it rings as true today with our current wars. The poem's optimism doesn't fully resonate until the last verse, indeed the last line. The music develops from the melody in the first verse, heard in sixths, in Em, around a pedal tone: the constancy of the heavens. The melody is heard again, but this time simultaneously inverted. When the stars are mentioned, we move from minor to major. In the 3rd verse, about the innocence of childhood, all voices move together into three-part harmony in major keys (with a subtle key shift in the third line). The last verse includes the lyric All things are changed, save in the east.. It begins with all voices singing the inverted melody in harmony; it goes from E major, to G major, and concludes with the melody un-inverted, in E major.

Bass/baritone voice solo, violoncello and organ - Moderately Easy - Digital Download SKU: MQ.6593-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. 21st century, prayer. Score. 19 pages. Duration 10 minutes. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #6593-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.6593-E). English. The three songs Welcome Love (Ubi caritas), Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace, and Gaelic Blessing are interconnected motivically yet distinct in meter, tonality, and message. These three songs are interconnected motivically, yet distinct in meter, tonality, and message. Peace and reverence flow throughout. The songs are for a bass-baritone. Commissioned in 2003 by David Arnold, a North Carolina bass-baritone who is a soloist in the 80-voice Chancel Choir at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Arnold premiered these songs at Centenary with organist Ray Ebert and cellist Jennifer Alexandra Johnston on February 27, 2005. A new version for voice and piano was created in 2005. A transposition for lyric Baritone was added in 2015, commissioned by Ferris Allen (Baritone) and Linda Holzer (Pianist) of Little Rock, AR.The lyrics for Ubi Caritas are based on a new translation, by Christopher Brunelle, of the traditional Ubi Caritas Est Vera. A recurrent image in this translation is the gesture of welcoming: welcoming love, welcoming God, welcoming the friendly unfamiliar thought, welcoming Christ with us. The musical interpretation of welcoming is stepwise motion, either up or down, around a pitch center. Perhaps this might be heard as an opening of the door, or an opening of the heart. An interlude leads to the second song, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace, a musical setting of the Prayer of Saint Francis. The accompaniment is sparse, with material reminiscent of the welcoming pattern in the first song. This song alternates between triple meter for the thematic sections (Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace) and duple meter for the more recitative sections (O Divine Master...). The music ends as it began, with simple open fifths accompaniment, this time filling in the chords to express the fullness of the lyrics born to eternal life.A second interlude provides the bridge to the third song, Gaelic Blessing. The text for this song is a series of blessings for peace. The gentle chordal arpeggiations in the piano are intended to provide a peaceful accompaniment. [Once again, the stepwise intervals and recurrent regular rhythms relate to the first song.]In keeping with the simplicity and repetition of the text, the music is formed by a series of four-measure phrases (blessings). The blessings are similar in contour, each spanning an interval of a fourth. Growth is achieved through repetition and some dynamic contrast. However, the principal aesthetic of this song is constancy and gentle flow. Only at the end of the song, when the voice descends into the deep range, is the melodic contour altered, and dynamic contrast introduced. As the voice ends on low tones, the piano line rises, perhaps to the source of peace.Duration: 10 min.

During the Covid 19 lockdown the community choir Amber Valley Voices have worked with their MD Angie Cope and accompanist and composer Chris Lawry to write a lock down inspired song to rehearse in their Zoom rehearsals to hopefully use in their forthcoming concerts once restrictions are eased and we can begin to meet and sing together again.Much love to all out there that can't sing together yet; we are feeling your pain with you!Sheet music (for Unison, SA and SATB choir) available from www.chrislawry.com. If you need a backing track or leadsheet, or anything, please get in touch using: contact@chrislawry.com Lyrics: Waiting by the window, Parcels at the door, Kisses left hanging in the air. Doorstep daughters and street-side sons, It's the little things to show that you still care. ]Smiles from total strangers we pass along the way, Neighbours that speak now evâry day. Time for conversations, time for souls to touch Itâs the little things that now mean oh so much. The little things that mean so much The little things we miss and those we donât, as such The little things: a sight, a sound, a smell, a touch. Itâs the little things that now mean oh so much. A letter from a loved one, flowers from a friend The look that says I know, I understand Early morning birdsong, a woodlands dappled light, Itâs the outward signs of natures healing hand.To wander through a meadow, to drink in cleaner air New life bursts out around us âmidst our pain. So much has been lost at immeasurable cost But together weâll rebuild our world again. The little things that mean so much The little things we miss and those we donât, as such The little things: a sight, a sound, a smell, a touch.Itâs the little things that now mean oh so much. The little things that mean so much The little things we miss and those we donât, as such The little things: a sight, a sound, a smell, a touch.Itâs the little things that now mean oh so much.

Oboe,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028132 Composed by Arwyn Bailey. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Wedding. Score and part. 18 pages. Galactic Publishers Limited #3381141. Published by Galactic Publishers Limited (A0.1028132). For EliseA composition for Oboe and Piano written to mark the birth of the composers grand-daughter.The piece is a sweet piece of one movement lasting just under 3.30.it is a piece that students of the oboe will enjoy learning and playing. The standard for an oboist is around grade 5. The pianist needs to be competent and around grade 7 or upwards in standard. This is also a good piece for college students to work on together as a performance piece. This piece is reflective, and would serve well for a performance at a school concert, in a church, or as a meditative piece. The composition benefits from practice individually, with a coming together of players before the performance date and will give the performers the experience of practicing individually as well as together.Breath control is key for the oboist as after the introduction the oboe plays right through without break. The piece will challenge and teach the need for breath control to the performer whether they are seasoned or a student. The pianist will experiences wide stretches and may have to work out which notes can be lost due to the stretch involved and the notation of the chords without affecting the overall largesse of piano sound.Dynamics are also important and both players will need to work on getting this right as there are waves of dynamics in very spaces during the piece. Keeping time is also important as the players will play in counter rhythms including triplets against standard syncopted quaver beats, in short spaces, thereby creating a challenge for the perfomrers to listen to themsleves and count, rather than relying upon the other performer for the timing. The MP3 file, (that can be found here: http://thetimelord.blog/family) is NOT a true representation of the piece as it is a basic extract from the composition software and is too harsh a representation of the piece. It requires a performance to be recorded. Contact the composer if you are interested in creating a recording. A recording must not be undertaken without prior permission of the publisher and composer.ALL rights are held by Galactic Publishers Limited and the piece cannot be reproduced, recorded or re-arranged in any form without permission.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1138826 By Louise du Toit. By Louise du Toit. Arranged by Louise du Toit. Contemporary. Score. 10 pages. Louise du Toit #739125. Published by Louise du Toit (A0.1138826). Impukane the Fly is the fourteenth in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled 15 Animal Compositions for Piano and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: Impukane the fly is overjoyed. Engulfed in the mud at a waterhole at Mkuzi in Zululand, an old warthog is taking a nap; unknowingly becoming the perfect target for the fly with his irritating demeanor. Whirring around the warthogâs nose, trotting on his eyelids and creeping into his ears, Impukane annoys the animal until it jumps up furiously, trying to catch it between his teeth. Darting away with high agility, the fly manages to stay out of range while circling around the warthogâs head, annoying him even more. After many unsuccessful attempts to hunt down the insect, the warthog backs off and buries himself in the mud again to find some peace, but it is of no use. Joined by another fly, Impukane continues to pester him; soon a whole crowd of fluttering bugs whizz past his ears. Finally, the poor old warthog decides to flee for good, and dizzy from the continuous buzzing noises around his head, he heads off into the bushes with a loud and angry snort..
