The texts in this version is not sung but recited by a narrator accompanied by two flutes, two harps and celesta. This 9-minute motet in which the Buddha-to-be Dharmakara praises His master, Lokeshvaraja Buddha and vows to become the Savior of all Beings (namely, Amida Buddha). The music beings with an extended recitative/aria by solo soprano, and proceeds to the full choral ensemble to its conclusion. The MP3 Audio Clip is a computer-generated soundfile of the entire work. The music is completely tonal and traditional, suitable for good amateur choirs and professional choruses alike.Words from the Larger Sutra on Amida Buddha expounded by Shakyamuni Buddha some 2500 years ago in India.[Setting: Many ages ago, Dharmakara Bhikshu (in his stage before becoming Amida Buddha) declares to his Master, Buddha Lokeshvararaja, his intention to create a Pure Land wherein all suffering beings can be saved.]Text (slightly abridged):Then appeared a Buddha named Lokeshvararaja, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, Possessed of Wisdom and Practice, Perfected One, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed One, Tamer of Men, Master of Gods and Men, Buddha and World-Honored One.At that time there was a king, who, having heard the Buddha's exposition of the Dharma, rejoiced in his heart and awakened aspiration for the highest, perfect Enlightenment. The Bible abounds in figures of speech such as simile (comparison using like or as), metaphor (comparison not using like or as), synecdoche (using a part for the whole), deliberate hyperbole [obvious exaggeration], verbal irony (the tone of voice tells that the speaker means the opposite of the words he or she is using), personification (attributing human features or feelings to animals or inanimate objects), anthropomorphism / anthropopathism (gives human attributes, feelings to God.) [or animals, inanimate objects, cartoon characters.] ♫ God is spirit. (John 1:18, John 4:24) He is infinite, eternal, invisible, undetectable. The humanlike descriptions of God are actually figures of speech that help us understand and identify with Him. Descriptions of God’s eyes, arms, feet, wings, etc. are all figures of speech that tell us God is present everywhere, sees everything, hears everything, and cares about every part of his creation. (God is imminent). ♫ The heavens, even the highest heavens cannot contain Him. (2 Chronicles 2:6, 6:18) God is separate from the universe. (God is transcendent.) Scientific measurements cannot detect Him because He is not in the universe, the universe is in Him. ♫ Just as you can feel your fingers and your toes at the same time, God knows what is happening in every atom of the universe simultaneously. Published by Pete Downes (A0.975726). This is an arrangement of the Sarabande from Bach's Cello Suite III BWV 1009. It is considered a Grade 6 piece by ABRSM. Notation, tab and chord symbols are included plus the original cello score for comparison.Origin and additionsThis has been built from scratch using original cello score sources but transposed to G Major for guitar. Where possible, additional chord notes have been added up to 5 strings. Additional bass notes have been added to get a richer cello-like range, in particular E bass note added in bars 13-14 and octave lower bass notes added to bar 15, an A bass note added to bar 18.A transcription of the original cello score is included for comparison and understanding of the additions. This allows a player to create their own alternatives if desired. Approach to performingListen to cellists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Rostropovich performing this piece to get a sense of it's slow, majestic nature on the original instrument. On guitar we can't get the length of expression on a single string but we can use dynamics and space.If the additional bass notes are excluded, it can also be played with a plectrum.

An der schönen blauen Donau (The Blue Danube) is known all over the world and every year a fixed encore at the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic broadcasted in most countries of the world. Previous to the orchestra version it was premiered on 15 February 1867 in a separate version with male-choir. So it is a real challenge to create an arrangement of this famous piece, which may dare a comparison with the original. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2019 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q778629). The 9th String Quartet forms the penultimate work in my Beethoven Study quartet cycle. Chronologically, however, it was composed after the 10th Quartet Cavatina. And indeed, when composing it, it felt like the conclusion of the cycle. While the 6th Quartet Studie über Beethoven, which opened the cycle, was still in one movement, the 7th in two and the 8th in three, this 9th Quartet is a four-movement work. The sacred musical number 9 inspired me to create an especially substantial and intense composition. The second movement, a Scherzo, and the fourth movement Allegro alla marcia have become simply gigantic in their dimensions and in the density of information and impulses in comparison to their historical models. This 9th quartet has a particular focus on Beethoven’s still unattainable Quartet in C# minor op. 131. The radical nature and modernity of this work are still burning issues for us today. As in the other quartets in the cycle, I have been amazed at the new forms which have evolved during my preoccupation with their historical models and the extent of previously unknown spiritual depths in my own music during the process of composition. While my study of Beethoven's symphonies in the orchestral piece Con brio led to the discovery of new tonal possibilities for the orchestra (the timpani treatment!) and the juxtaposition of Beethoven's choral fantasy with the Latin Dies irae in my ARCHE oratorio made it possible to develop new theological and thematic points of focus, in the string quartet cycle it is above all the development and discovery of new forms that could only emerge through the study of Beethoven's quartets. Possibly unique: an Easter (or more properly Good Friday) hymn for six-part choir, in which the choir is actually the accompaniment for a piano solo of almost hyponotic dissonance in comparison. The result of superimposing these elements is strangely beautiful. The composer offers the following commentary: I guess most people seeing a piece with a choir and a piano would think of it – not unreasonably – as a choir accompanied by a piano. This piece is subtly different: the way in which I can best explain what was in my mind when I composed it would be to describe it as a piano solo accompanied by choir. While the choir sings music that feels like a slow pavane the pianist plays a series of arpeggios and cluster chords around another relatively simple but unlinked melody. The combined effect is almost hypnotic and if the singers think of the pianist as their accompanist they will almost certainly lose the plot of what they are singing! On first hearing it may appear that the piano and the choir have little in common but the concept is simple enough. Both choir and pianist are meditating on the same theme, but coming at it from totally different directions. There is no formula to the way in which we approach the cross of Christ. We come as we are, seeking forgiveness and reconciliation, meeting at the foot of the cross. The juxtaposition of choir and piano represents that meeting and the cluster chords that the pianist plays reinforce a sense of brokenness that is essential to a proper understanding of the music. I have dedicated this to Canon Andrew White and the Christians of Iraq, knowing that their situation seems impossible in the face of the evil that walks that land, but trusting in the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ to do right even if from our earthly perspective we are unable to discern what right is.

This arrangement adapted for recorder trio was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).
