Il concerto per pianoforte e orchestra n. 20, KV 466, è una composizione di Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, completata il 10 febbraio1785 a Vienna.Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart finì di comporre il Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra n. 20 in re minore K 466 il 10 febbraio 1785. Il giorno successivo lo eseguì come solista a Vienna in uno dei suoi concerti per abbonamento che, a quel tempo, avevano molto richiamo. Narra la leggenda che Mozart distribuì agli orchestrali le copie appena trascritte dell'ultimo movimento, al momento stesso di andare in scena. Il concerto si svolse nella sala Mehlgrube e vi parteciparono anche il padre Leopold, appositamente venuto da Salisburgo.L'Andante del secondo tempo è una romanza in 2/2 in forma ABACA. Come fa spesso, qui Mozart gioca di contrasti, espliciti e mascherati. Il primo contrasto è con il carattere del movimento che lo ha preceduto. Nell'inizio del secondo movimento il tema è sereno, apparentemente idilliaco e la tonalità solare (Si bemolle maggiore) lo conferma. È il tempo scelto (2/2) che ci fornisce il primo indizio sulle intenzioni dell'autore. A differenza di altri pezzi di grande lirismo il tempo non è un morbido ternario (3/4, 6/8), né un 4/4 con il suo respiro ampio ed il suo alternarsi di battere forti e smussati, ma un marziale 2/2. Il tema principale viene esposto dal solista, ripreso poco dopo dall'orchestra, passa dall'una all'altro con la solita maestria orchestrale mozartiana. Il secondo tema si presenta immediatamente con un salto di ottava ed intervalli ampi si ritrovano in tutto il suo svolgimento. È questo espediente più volte iterato che Mozart usa per costruire tensioni armoniche in crescendo che portano al minore e ad atmosfere già distanti dal primo tema. Con grazia sorprendente Mozart torna quindi sul primo tema per la seconda sezione. La terza sezione tematica precipita in minore, e questa volta con una serie di scale forsennate che richiamano alcuni passaggi dello sviluppo del primo movimento. Gli accordi verticali in forte (bisognerà aspettare Beethoven per i primi fortissimo) marcano di brusche fermate e riprese il rincorrersi delle scale. Un arpeggio rallentato e un arabesco riportano al tema principale che chiude questa pagina in un finto clima di riconciliazione, aprendo al frenetico finale.

This bombastic Concerto by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was composed in 1877 whilst still a serving naval officer, for fellow marine musician; it was premiered in March 1878 at Kronstadt, with the international premiere not taking place until the summer of 1952 in New York City. The work consists of three short movements, the second and third including cadenza sections for the soloist. The duration of the Concerto stands at around 10 minutes. Although written for the tenor trombone, the Concerto is standard repertoire amongst bass trombonists, as the composer makes few demands on the very high register of the instrument. Indeed, in common with solo trombone works of the period, the Concerto encompasses the full downward range of the instrument, including in the 3rd movement cadenza notes that are so low as to be usually unobtainable (and therefore played up an octave) by latter-day tenor trombonists. This arrangement has been rescored from the condensed piano arrangement for modern day concert band.

The concerto is in 4 movements: I. Prayer, II. Meditation, III. Call and Response, IV. Exaltation Here is a description of the work by Mark Narins, the composer: Prayer: The first movement starts with a shimmering tremolo in the strings over which the silver voice of the trombone plays an arching phrase that lingers on an extended appoggiatura. The trombone is a lone mystic reaching for the sky and then falling perilously down to the pedal register. Later the orchestra breaks into a frenetic vamp over which the trombone plays intense ascending scales and passage work. The movement ends with an ascent to a high C#, moving to a final ringing high C. Meditation: After the harp lays out a series of arpeggiated chords, the trombone plays a warm, rich theme in the middle range. The following episodes are variations on this theme. The trombone moves into the upper register, floating with the ease of a lead trombone in a big band. The movement ends with an ascending yearning phrase reaching a high D as the soloist touches the sky and then comes gently back to earth. Call and Response: The orchestral accompaniment starts in an anxious, mysterious tonality. The trombone enters with a burst of energy playing a machine gun series of Fs. The movement develops into a series of short brilliant solo passages answered boldly by the orchestra. This movement showcases the stunning declamatory powers of the trombone. Exaltation: Movement 4 starts as an allegro with intense tremolos in the basses. The trombone breaks out into an articulated driving theme followed by several extended melodic passages. Midway in the movement the strings abruptly lay out a syncopated Latin dance rhythm over which the trombone climbs from the bottom to the top of its range in rapid triplets. In the final codetta the trombone accelerates the dance tempo and climaxes on a series of high C#s in a brilliant and joyous fashion. The concerto is 27 minutes in duration and is appropriate for advanced performers. This version with Piano is a reduction of the full Orchestral version (to be published in the near future). The new Trombone Concerto by Mark Narins is a very exciting piece with dramatic contrasts between the slow and fast sections. The move to the finish of the piece makes for a great wrap-up. The Concerto Grosso for Three Trombones with Piano accompaniment by Lindol Mitchell is a realization for Piano of the original orchestral score by Jeremy Niles Kempton. The original orchestral work was composed in 1961 as part of Mitchell’s Doctoral dissertation at the Eastman School of Music and was first performed in 1963 at a memorial concert for the composer after his untimely death. The solo performers were nine students of Emory Remington, including Ralph Sauer and Donald King. The work is is subtitled in stile Barocco and is in three movements. Movement I begins with an somber introductory Adagio followed by an Allegro in the style of a Bach Fugue led by the three soloists. Movement II is a slow and serious Larghetto in C minor. Movement III is a Presto in D minor in a Toccata style and is full of many mixed meter bars that add little little rhythmic surprises along the way. The 13-minute work is appropriate for advanced performers. The hand copied score and parts Concerto Grosso were rediscovered in the Sibley Library at the Eastman School of Music by Jeremy Kempton who then engraved and proofed them. He performed the work in 2011 with colleagues for the first time since its premier in 1963.

The concerto bears the dedication “for Walter Simmons, a hero for the cause of American music.†Musicologist Walter Simmons has been an inspirational and passionate advocate for seriousAmerican concert music for nearly his entire life. Through his tireless efforts as author, critic, recordand concert producer, and lecturer, Walter has brought myriad composers and works to muchdeserved attention. The basic musical material for the entire work is presented near the outset, the pitches Eb – D – G –Ab – E. This cell is used throughout the rest of the concerto both motivically, in transformation, and as a harmonic structural device. Its harmonic identity creates the mix of tonal/modal and atonal constructs that are a preoccupation of my music. The concerto’s title provided the poetic idea behind the musical development. Though more or less equal with the ensemble in the first movement, the piano clearly takes over as leader in the second and third movements as the goaldirected formal narrative of the movements becomes more obvious. The first movement, Murky Waters, is a free fantasy in which the piano and ensemble “unpack†the musical potential of the basic material. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky is probably the most popular of the great composers in America. His music certainly appeals to musicians. Likewise, it appeals even to folks who don’t normally listen to serious music. This is probably because of his most noteworthy melodies. Above all, he writes with great emotion. This certainly makes a most noteworthy if not an unforgettable impact. Education First of all, He attended classes at the Russian Musical Society. Even more, He also attended the St. Petersburg Conservatory. There he studied music theory with Nikolai Zaremba. He also consequently studied composition with Anton Rubenstein. It seems like Rubenstein came under criticism from a group of Russian composers known as the Five. The Five The Five certainly rejected Western musical influences. They rather sought to use elements from Russian music. They furthermore wanted to use more exotic musical materials. Western Techniques More than other Russian composers, Tchaikovsky studied modern Western music. He certainly develops his music like the European masters. So, rather than repeating a motive, he moves to a new key. He then introduces a different theme in the new key. Hence, he maintained his independence from the Five. Even more, he became the first Russian composer of international stature. Influences Tchaikovsky was probably influenced in his ballet scoring by Léo Delibes. Richard Wagner influenced his symphonic writing. Tchaikovsky’s most famous works include the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker Suite, and Swan Lake. Also famous are the Violin Concerto in D and the six symphonies. The greatest of the six symphonies may be No. 6, the Pathétique. Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a The Nutcracker Suite is a ballet that was performed for the first time in December 1892 in St. Petersburg. To begin with, the original ballet failed to attract a positive reception. However, the ballet suite became probably one of the most popular of all of Tchaikovsky’s works. The ballet suite became even more famous in the 1960s. It is now performed all over the world, particularly during the Christmas season. Â
