Published by Pavel Burdych (A0.1090293). Slovak composer and sound artist Peter MachajdÃk (b. 1961) occupies a unique place in the world of contemporary music. He won international acclaim for his multimedia project Intimate Music at the Inventionen 1994 festival in Berlin. MachajdÃk has worked with numerous chamber ensembles and orchestras, choreographers, dancers and visual artists. He writes music for film and theatre. He is the holder of Slovakia´s most prestigious classical music award, the Ján Levoslav Bella Prize. His Rosenberg Sonata for Violin and Piano, of 2010, is a composition whose structure sets it in a class of its own, and which plays around with the minimalist style, whilst at the same time attesting to the breadth of the composer's musical and philosophical understanding. Performers: The Czechoslovak Chamber Duo was formed in 2004 by Czech violinist Pavel Burdych and Slovak pianist Zuzana BereÅ¡ová. Both artists have been regular guests at music festivals in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, as well as making frequent concert appearances in capitals around the globe, including Rome, Paris, Lisbon, Seoul, Bucharest, Sofia, Athens, Prague, and Bratislava. Thanks to their Czechoslovakian roots, they often receive invitations from Czech and Slovak expatriate communities in various countries. Every year, they mount projects centred around anniversaries of major composers. The Czechoslovak Chamber Duo has earnt the accolades of audiences and critics alike for its high professional standards, flawless coordination, and musicality. The composition is in traditional four movements, it can be performed together with electronic pre-recorded material or as an option together with film produced and directed by Elia Cmiral. The composition expresses the feeling of hopelessness and despair by the breakdowns of values in our societies, reflects the change in the human minds in a global crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Composition has started during the COVID-19 pandemic and was completed last year (2021) premiered live with the film in Prague, Czech Republic by a prime string ensemble Epoque Quartet that also played the whole piece in the film. The visual part of the project has emotional attachment to the city of Prague, each movement brings poetic visions of the city, raising the questions - Did we really lose ourselves? Is humanity going to destroy itself with its endless and arrogant greed? Where are we heading? After three dark movements we find in the last movement a hope in human creativity, love and finding a light in the end of the dark tunnel. Movement I – Desolated City and its Living Shadows (8 min), fast and rhythmical Movement II - Tears of a Dark River (10 min), slow and emotional Movement II - Anguish and Rage (4 min), extremely fast and dissonant Movement IV - Faith in Hope (6 min), medium tempo, rather emotional Performing Options: Option 1. His ideas and pioneering work have had a major influence on music and dance education throughout the world and today that work continues under the guidance of leading teachers and educators in many countries. The five basic German volumes of Music for Children by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman were published between 1950 and 1954. Editions have since been published in Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ghana, Great Britain (including a special Welsh edition), Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latin-America, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the USA. In 1952 the first edition in translation appeared an English language adaptation by Doreen Hall and Arnold Walter for their Canadian and American students. A few years later, Margaret Murray independently developed a version (1957-1966), essentially to fulfil the needs of United Kingdom teachers. Inevitably the considerable growth of Orff-Schulwerk in the United States led to the publication of the American Edition (1977) to satisfy the requirements of a different educational system and national heritage. Orff-Schulwerk: Music for Children has proved itself to be a stimulating source of material for music teaching. Carl Orff's fundamental educational ideas have revitalized music education in nursery schools, at all levels of primary and secondary education and in special music schools, based on the concepts that: - music, dance and language are inter-related and animated through rhythm. - when children discover, invent, improvise and compose, their experience of music is intensified. These creative activities are complementary to those of interpreting and listening to music. - all who take part are encouraged to contribute, not only vocally but also instrumentally. - the Orff approach to music education is many sided; it is concerned with practical music-making, it provides fundamental experiences and it lays the foundation for a comprehensive musical training. - movement games and activities for body awareness in space, time and flow, lead to movement improvisation and dance forms. - music and dance have been notated in many different ways in history. Various ways of writing down sounds and music, as well as playing from and interpreting different kinds of sources are being explored. Today, countless teachers and institutions are using these ideas. More and more teachers look for ways of involving their students in active music making. In particular, they seek to challenge their pupils' creativity by the use of music, dance and speech - as media of human expression - as a foundation of all education. A prerequisite for work in Orff-Schulwerk is the artistic and pedagogical training of teachers. The Orff Institute was founded in 1961 as a Department of the 'Mozarteum', in Salzburg, Austria. Training offered includes a four-year diploma course, a two-year post-graduate course, and a one-year-course in English. At the opening of the Orff Institute in Salzburg in 1963, Carl Orff ended his speech with a quotation from Schiller: 'I have done my part, now do yours.' Smetana employed the lively Czech folk dance Skočná in the third act of his opera The Bartered Bride, where a circus troupe performs an array of tricks and acrobatics. The transcription is intended to be played by two pianists at two pianos. The original orchestral score has been rendered as accurately as possible, while also keeping issues of piano-specific playability in mind. Where appropriate, slight changes to the original text (such as changes in register, piano-specific figurations) have been made to either enhance the overall sound impression and/or to improve playability on the piano. The difficulty level of the arrangement is high-intermediate to advanced. That said, Dance of the Comedians is a rewarding and fun piece - as well as a genuine crowd-pleaser - that may be performed by skilled amateurs and professional pianists alike.

Published by Daniel S. Augustine (A0.837244). Blue Skirt Waltz was originally written by Vaclav Blaha (1901-1959), a Bohemian trumpet player and composer. The song’s original name was Cervenou Sukynka (Red Skirt Waltz). He recorded the song in 1944 as an instrumental (although there are Czech lyrics). In the late 1940s, Frankie Yankovic was reviewing a catalog of Bohemian music and liked the song, but thought that it needed lyrics. He asked the well-known lyricist Mitchell Parish (of Stardust and Sleighride fame) to write new lyrics, and Parish did so, changing the color of the skirt from red to blue. In 1949 Frankie Yankovic and His Yanks recorded Blue Skirt Waltz and it reached #22 in the Country charts. Columbia Records eventually sold 2,500,000+ copies of the recording, and it is estimated that over 4,000,000 recordings by all musical groups have been sold. This arrangement is intended for a small German or polka band, but the instrumentation is flexible: 2 Clarinets, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax (doubling Euphonium), 2 Trumpets, Eb Alto/Tenor Horn (plus Horn in F), Trombone, Euphonium (both bass and treble clef), String Bass, Tuba, Accordion (or Piano), and Drums. This band transcription of Celebration Overture was composed for orchestra during August and September of 1995 in honor of WITF-FM’s 25th Anniversary. It was selected as the winning composition in WITF-FM’s Composition Competition from a field of over forty international entries and received its premiere by the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Richard Westerfield conducting on April 23, 1996. Subsequent performances have been given by the York Symphony Orchestra, the Reading Symphony Orchestra, and several university orchestras. During March 1997, the overture was recorded by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Paul Freeman for release as part of CD series entitled Paul Freeman Introduces on the Albany Label in 1998. This six minute overture alternates sections of fanfare-like figures with sections of playful rhythms and counterpoint. The overall form consists of two main sections that contrast each other and a middle section that serves as a development of previously stated material. The composition is an economical one as its material is derived primarily from the opening brass fanfare and the woodwind counter melody. The modal melodic and harmonic material is interwoven with polyrhythm, imitation, counterpoint, and timbral changes to create a composition reflective of the excitement of this celebration. The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter.

Holland's other one act operas The One Upstairs (comedy) and O Holy Art (tragedy) to make a complete opera evening entitled A New York Triptych All require same type of singers (with some addition and chorus) and same size of orchestra. Other operas also available and published, sold separately.Please note: Although this is a farce, the orchestral should have solid players, an experienced conductor and enough rehearsal time should be given so that the piece won't fall apart in performance. Due to the comedic element, there are constantly shifting tempos and effects that a community or amateur orchestra/conductor might have difficulty with.

The reputation of the Bohemian composer Zdenek Fibich (1850-1900) has always been somewhat overshadowed by that of Bedrich Smetana and AntonÃn Dvorák. This is a pity, for Fibich, though he died young, made an equally important contribution to the emerging Czech national styl with his wide range of compositions. After starting piano lessons with his mother as his first teacher, the boy went on to music school in Prague and then to the Leipzig Conservatoire, where he learned his craft as a composer. He spent a few months teaching piano in Paris and then continued his studies with Vinzenz Lachner in Mannheim. Prague was eventually to become the centre for Fibich's musical activities: as his dream of a post at the Conservatoire remained unfulfilled, his main employment was giving private music lessons and as a composer Zdenek Fibich wrote works for many musical genres: vocal and chamber music, piano pieces and orchestral works, operas, stage music and melodramas, literary recitals with orchestral accompaniment to which he gave a new lease of life. There are biographical traces to be found in the 376 piano pieces of the collection 'Moods, Impressions and Reminiscences' Op. 41, written in 1892-98: this tells of his love for his pupil Anezka Schulzová in the form of a 'piano diary'. Its four volumes were frequently a source of material for other works, such as the symphonic poem 'In the Evening' Op. 39 (also known as 'A Summer's Evening' and 'At Twilight'), written in 1893. For his second subject in this 'Idyll' Fibich used the minature no. 139, entitled 'Lento', from his collection of piano pieces. The violinst Jan KubelÃk played the melody from 1908 onwards with the title 'Poème', and the work is still known today under this title: its easy charm has made it a favourite tune in the classical repertoire. This arrangement is based on the orchestral version from which other material was adapted for the Prelude.
