The Majesty of Blue and Green is a tone poem written in dedication to the powerful nature of nature itself, and specifically as an ode to the history of Saranac, New York. Saranac was originally established as a town for treating Tuburculosis (TB), and subsequently was aptly nicknamed The Healing Town. The medical cottages established the foundation of the town that would later grow from it, which carries the legacy of healing. Although the physical healing has stopped, the town and its gorgeous lake now serve me as a place of spiritual healing. Every time I find myself encased in nature I seem to slip into an incredibly introspective and reflective state. In writing this piece for the Saranac Horn Retreat, I found myself refinding those deep, complex mental states which I constantly sought out in nature so dearly before. The piece is written to be a breadth of color, utilizing a wide palette to create a colorful work of art in one's own mind. The melodic motifs are simply vehicles on which the color and emotion journeys.- D. Dukat

Lost and alone.Everything that surrounds youstrikes fear in your heart.Sea of Trees presents a sonic sensory experience meant to elicit visualizations and emotions related to being lost in the woods, by presenting sounds akin to those one may hear in the woods. A deep exploration of the Viola and the many techniques accessible to its performers, Sea of Trees challenges performers, composers, and audiences alike to question their predisposed notions of the possibilities of a single instrument. Live manipulation, specifically reverberation, is used to add depth to these sounds, and to create new effects that are the resultant of the intersection of lasting sounds. By using a dark performance setting to strip the audience of a critical sense, sight, the result is sound feeding the imagination.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1015754 Composed by Dylan Dukat. Contemporary. 12 pages. D. Dukat #6431607. Published by D. Dukat (A0.1015754). This work is a representation of my experimentation with 20th-century harmonies and scales, as noted by Vincent Persichetti in his book Twentieth-Century Harmony. Through this process, I worked to combine aspects of these harmonic ideas with my own voice and focus on harmonic color and nature. Combining the harmonic tendencies of the 20th-century with my own harmonic language, and connecting them through digestible melodies led me to Resonance and Flow, a work that also capitalizes on the nature of the wind quintet's aural characteristics. The wind quintet can be equally homogenous or heterogeneous in timbre, and these can change based on combinations and roles of the instruments. In playing with all of these tools, Resonance and Flow is a representation of 20th-century music with a 21st-century attunement to the audience and their taste.
