Capriccio may be thought of whimsically, as a fantasy, while Ballata can be treated as a dance. Additionally these two ideas may constantly interact as each movement contains traces of the other. As this music is not programmatic in nature, no specific imagery must necessarily be sought after, but rather the material can be woven as the performers see fit within the tempo and dynamic guidelines. Sensitivity should be paid to the note-value relationships present within many tempo changes, as well as hemioli and other perceived metric shifts. Finally, performers are encouraged to explore the full range of textural colors present as this will accentuate the development of these ideas.

It is undeniable that we humans are, as a species, outgrowing our small planet. As populations boom and technologies diversify, we are increasingly unable to run away from our problems. As a result, violence in civilized society is increasing at an alarming rate. How do we combat those that do harm to others, and more importantly, how do we convince our race as a whole that the problem cannot long be ignored? This original poem and its musical setting seek to pay tribute to the victims of violence in the modern United States. In an age where it seems a new tragedy has occurred somewhere every day, this work is titled 365 to represent each day of the year. The poem is structured in seven stanzas for the days of the week, and there are twelve iterations of Three hundred and sixty-five for the twelve months in the year. The final, introspective stanza parallels the poignant Christian story of Christ's crucifixion at the hands of his brethren, and lends a darker side of thought with the chosen grouping of words (read either no more; God forgive us or no more God; forgive us). This text humbly seeks to draw attention to what exactly is happening among us, among our neighbors, our governors, and our legislators, and the importance of addressing this ever-growing crisis in our society.

And by learning understanding, peace just might follow. This challenging 30-minute work is recommended for smaller, advanced chamber choirs.

It also strives to capture the intimacy of the text's perspective; for instance the usage of miserere mei (have mercy on me) rather than the more common miserere nobis (have mercy on us) makes this prayer particuarly personal. What results is a musical setting that is uniquely and poignantly placed in emotional context, yet also struggling to remain pious and unassuming-much like this ancient prayer.
