There are a few very brief times when Sopranos, or Altos, or Baritones divide. Vocal parts are all within normal ranges. Level of difficulty is moderate with lots of movement in the vocal parts. It works well for advanced high school groups, church choirs with smaller men's sections. There is also available a S.A.T.B. arrangement for more advanced and larger ensembles here on SMPPress.com. There are short passages where parts divide, so a minimum of eight singers is necessary. The text invites the listeners to find rest in Christ. The harmonies are rich and inviting. The piano part can be a bit challenging and the choral parts are of a medium difficulty. Duration is 3 minutes 40 seconds. Published by D H Hamill (A0.1012874). For SSAATTBB with piano accompaniment. The lyrics are from John 14: 27 and 18 (KJV). The opening section is calm and peaceful, as one might expect. The middle section (a cappella) is a bit agitated and repetitive in a manner to give emphasis to the promises of the opening section. Then the piece ends with a shortened repeat of the restful and calm opening section. This is appropriate for worship services but is really more suitable as a concert piece. The vocal ranges are all within normal ranges. All parts include some challenging syncopation. There is a fair amount of unison singing along with sections of four and five part harmony. I adapted and expanded an anonymous poem, The Oyster, to help emphasize the need to make the best of one's life circumstances. Several key changes add interest to the ostinato accompaniment. Two versions are published here, the other with same choral parts but with easy classical guitar accompaniment. Duration approximately 2 min. 35 sec. (Originally composed for and performed by the Grand Land Singers for their Christmas concerts in 1976, it quickly became a favorite of many of the performers and was a real crowd pleaser.) Adapted from Isaiah 49:13 KJV. Â With an exuberant opening, this song sets the tone for the entire work which includes vibrant and energetic passages along with more thoughtful and calm moments. Â The middle section is more fluid and homophonic with an emphasis on the comfort and mercy offered from the Lord. That is followed by a repetition of the opening bars moving into a to a rousing end. This work is excellent for any choral concert with strong singers and more advanced church choirs. Vocal ranges are within normal ranges for experienced choral groups. Â This is one of three settings from Isaiah by this composer which may also be found published on this same website. The others are How Beautiful and And In That Day.
