Soprano voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8574-6E Composed by Juliana Hall. Secular, 21st Century, Art Song. 9 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8574-6E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8574-6E). English. This collection follows a narrative in which the first two poems shine bright light on reality after both a literal and a metaphorical storm, after which that light is amplified and changed into a more mysterious atmosphere by a fog that allows the speaker to feel free to confess his sins. The regular cycles of nature provide the winds that blow away that sin from the speaker, once it is confessed, after which the gentle light of a harvest moon provides the healing softness that allows even Death to whisper as a friend. Purification continues as we are reminded of the innocence of children to look up and stare in awe and wonder at the moon’s light, and finally the daily cycle of nature brings night to the town, where the forgiveness of that confessed sin allows its inhabitants to enjoy perfect peace and sleep.Contents1. Piano Sonata No. 1 Movement 3 "Reflection of Passing"

(+)
Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025435 Composed by Samuel Warren Hatch. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz. Score. 9 pages. Samuel Warren Hatch #4764165. Published by Samuel Warren Hatch (A0.1025435). Piano Sonata No. 1 in E Major is the first series of concert piano works by S. Warren Hatch, written during his undergraduate study at Campbell University. Each movement is distinct, in that each of them is composed in a different form, utilizes different key changes and scales, and takes influence from a different period in classical music. While there is no theme that connects them to one another, they are all in the key of E Major and consist mostly of a waltz-like feeling. III. A Reflection of Passing depicts the shifting aspects about death as a person matures. It’s a piece that came from a time of great loss and much grieving. It begins with an innocent, hopeful understanding of death, followed by a major tone shift, where there is an odd utilization of the piano: the performer sings into the piano while holding down the sustain pedal, which vibrates certain overtones, producing what sounds like a distant choir. The piece closes with a triumphant, hopeful melody, borrowed from a song written by S. Warren Hatch when he was in high school.Composer Notes- Be sure to ensure that the stage hands lift the piano lid before the sonata’s start, as the strings will need to be exposed in order for you to sing into the piano’s body during A Reflection of Passing. For that section (page 22) you will need to face and sing directly into the strings while holding down the sustain pedal for the entire page. If you are playing with the sheet music (don’t worry, I’m not shaming you) simply slide the music holder in order to expose the part of the strings that are closest to you. For this sonata, I encourage you to find your own voice in these pieces. Your own interpretation should align with how you most relate to the message/story they’re telling. This could be using the una corda (leftmost) pedal during lighter sections to further differentiate them, or having a heavier rubato to strengthen the impact of certain phrases. As long as you bring these pieces to life, then it has my stamp of approval.

Wilt Thou Forgive That Sin? (DONNE) - brass quintet
Quintette de Cuivres: 2 trompettes, Cor, trombone, tuba

(+)
Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726119 Composed by John Hilton (1599-1657). Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Lent,Sacred. 14 pages. Con Spirito Music #6329603. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726119). Wilt Thou Forgive That Sin? are the opening words to the poem, A Hymn to God the Father, written by the English poet, priest, and scholar John Donne (1572-1631). A theologically rich and poetically masterful text, it presents an appeal to God, in which Donne asks Wilt thou forgive? the original sin into whch man is born (stanza 1) and the personal sins of the individual (stanza 2), and in which he acknowledges his own fear of death and his hope of salvation through God's Son, Jesus Christ (stanza 3). Donne commissioned a tune to accompany the hymn from the English early baroque composer John Hilton (1599-1657), of which Donne's friend and biographer Izaak Walton said, he caused it to be set to a most grave and solemn tune, and to be often sung to the organ by the Choristers of St. Paul’s Church, in his own hearing.... Donne's hymn is especially fitting for penitential seasons (Advent, Lent) and occasions, and this arrangement for brass quintet of Hilton's tune makes an effective meditative selection for offertory or communion at any time. ©2021 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1171937 By Kevin Longley. By Kevin Longley. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Kevin Longley #772219. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1171937). The Raising of Lazarus, for Piano composed in 1987The InspirationThe music is an impressionistic work based on the biblical miracle. For me a miracle that stands alone portraying the all encompassing power of Jesus while demonstrating his unequivocal compassion. The MusicComposed in 1987 which beyond its inspiration from the miracle was clearly influenced by Debussy and Ravel. The opening bars depict Lazarus lost in some unknown realm; confused and alone. At measure 22 Jesus has arrived and will do what no one else can; bring life from death. At measure 49 Lazarus emerges from the tomb and Jesus moves on; ever closer to his own death and resurrection. The recording is a midi recording using the sibelius notation software. After using Encore for 30 years I decided to move onto new scoring software. I found it quite workable.Composed by Kevin Longley (1958-).

It Is Not Death to Die - Orchestration

Small Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.976717 Composed by Robert Myers. Contemporary,Easter,Sacred. Score and parts. 67 pages. WheatMyer Music #4794639. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976717). It Is Not Death to Die is a new setting of French poet Henri Abraham César Malan's Non, ce n'est pas mourir as translated by George Washington Bethune and adapted for this work. Why this text? It first came to my notice shortly after the passing of Billy Graham, who was known to paraphrase D. L. Moody, Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.Graham's bold proclamation and Malan's poetry motivated me to focus anew on the resurrection, re-remembering it as the pivotal element of the Christian faith. For if there is no resurrection, Paul says in 1 Cor 15, our faith is useless. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead! Unfortunately, singing about heaven has, perhaps, been neglected of recent decades. We seem to have focused more on the already to the detriment of the not yet. But it is important to remember that this life is not all there is! Quoting Paul again, the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us (Rom 8:18). Yet, if Christ delays, the grim inevitability of our transition into eternity is a certain experience we all face. Malan's poetry so poignantly and eloquently captures this tension that it compelled me to compose a fresh musical setting that attempts to captures the mixture of dread and hope borne out in the acclamation that death is swallowed up in victory! I pray that this setting aids the Church to remember the great hope and promise Christ has granted us: O Death, where is your victory? O Death, where is your sting?_______________________________________________________________________________________________The music opens with a C# diminished chord in a very still and somber texture reflective of grief. The text is introduced with the first of two main motives, a rising 4-note outline of B minor in a triple repetition of It Is Not Death. As each stanza proceeds the music concludes on the second motive, a 5-note descending span of a minor 7th in Bb Lydian. The energy and mood of the music gradually shift over the five stanzas, as the focus moves from this life to the next; the texture thickens, the harmony expands, and the dynamic grows into the music’s pinnacle on reign with You on high! The music closes on a reprise of the opening section, simultaneously mindful of our mortality and our eternity.Available with orchestral (this version) or piano accompaniment, It Is Not Death to Die is a fitting close to the Easter season, or is suitable for Ascension Sunday, a funeral or memorial service, or any time in the church year to remind Christians of the central hope of our faith, eternal life in Christ.Robert MyersS.D.G.Orchestration 2 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 1 1 Timp Glock Perc Mark Tree, Sus Cym, Crash Cym, Snare, Bass Drum, Mid Tom, Triangle, Tam Tam Piano Strings

Scholars point out a number of hymn fragments in the New Testament. For example, 1 Timothy 3:16:      He appeared in a body,       Was vindicated by the Spirit,         Was seen by angels,     Was preached among the nations,       Was believed on in the world,         Was taken up into glory. The metrical patterns made memorization of creeds easier, especially when associated with a melody.Sing, My Tongue, the Glorious Battle is a great example of an early hymn written to codify Christology (the theology of Jesus Christ), covering his birth to his death, and then ending–as many hymns did–with a doxological stanza. If I were still planning worship services, I would be intrigued by the idea of making this hymn the outline of a Lenten service...perhaps interspersing scripture or other narration between stanzas, alternating between choir and congregation, and varying the accompanying instrumental textures. If you like this format, you may be interested in a published volume of 75 similar arrangements: BEST-LOVED HYMNS I  (© FJH Music, distributed by Alfred Music).************It has long been my passion and privilege to create customized arrangements for the churches and schools with whom I have been associated. Many were published; some were not. During the 2020 slowdown caused by Covid-19, I finally had the time to start posting the unpublished resources on Sheet Music Plus. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.701496). An original hymn. Could be used as a Christmas or an Easter hymn. Text by Krista Pace below.YouTube video: https://youtu.be/s21oDdYj2HcGreat are the words of prophets of old Who spoke of a King to come as foretold; A Savior, Redeemer, to rule and to reign; Taking our sorrow, grief, loss, and pain. Angels came singing, sent from above Revealing as promised, our Father’s love; Teaching the world of His plan for all men That through God’s own Son, we’d come home again. Chosen of God, a virgin so fair Was blessed from on high, a Son she would bear, And call His name Jesus, for He was the One; His life to offer, Thy will be done. Angels came singing, sent from above Declaring glad tidings, our Father’s love; Shepherds and wise men would reverently bend For Jesus was born, the Savior of men. Women did come, their spices prepared; Still grieving the loss of life thus not spared. Then, finding the tomb with the stone rolled away Void of His body, cried in dismay. Angles came singing, sent from above Why seek ye the living? Our Father’s Love Rising, thus breaking the death bands to give A promise of life to all who would live. Seeking for truth, he knelt down to pray; Disturbed by the strife of men in his day. A pillar of light shone around this young boy; Christ and His Father answered in joy. Angels came singing, sent from above; Proclaiming the good news, our Father’s love; Full restoration of truth to the Earth; That all may rejoice, His gift of great worth. This Christmas (Easter) day, I ponder anew His birth, life, and death; my covenants true, And His resurrection that leads to my own; Prophets still leading, guiding me home. Angels are singing, sent from our home Protecting our children, loved ones who roam. One day we'll join them to sing in His light. He’s coming again in glory and might.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257721 Composed by Jakob Hintze. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Easter,Sacred. 24 pages. Con Spirito Music #850950. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1257721). An ideal hymn selection for Easter Sunday, Eastertide, or at any celebration of the eucharist, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing is one of many hymns translated from Latin by Robert Campbell (1814-1868), a Scottish advocate (lawyer) and Roman Catholic layperson. First published in 1850, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing was one of four of Campbell's hymn texts to be included in Hymns Ancient & Modern (1861), the first standardized and popular hymnal of the Anglican Church. The tune accompanying the text, known as SALZBURG, is attributed to the German composer Jakob Hintze (1622-1702). Its harmonization has long been attributed to J.S. Bach and numbered among his works as BWV 262. However, the New Edition of the Complete Works of Bach, published by Barenreiter, no longer recognizes this, and the harmonization matches that of Johann Pachelbel's Alle Menschen müssen sterben — Choral mit 8 Partiten (Chorale with 8 Variations) of 1683.Regardless of the authorship of text or tune, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing is a richly theological, grand hymn that references God's saving works in both the Old Testament and the New, culminating in Christ's victorious resurrection and his triumph over sin and death, and celebrates his feeding of the faithful gathered for the eucharistic feast with his Body and Blood. This arrangement for organ and brass quintet begins with alternating fanfares for organ and brass, followed by:Verse 1: organ accompanimentVerse 2: brass accompanimentVerse 3: organ accompaniment with solo trumpet punctuationsInterludeVerse 4: organ and brass accompaniment in alternate harmonizationCoda recapitulating the introductory fanfares Includes full score, parts for organ, Bb tpt. 1, Bb tpt. 2, F horn, tbn, tuba, and reproducible bulletin insert for voices ©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). High voice and piano - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8454-2E Composed by David Conte. Secular, 21st century. Instrument part. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8454-2E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8454-2E). English.American Death Ballads was composed especially for tenor Brian Thorsett. We have been frequent collaborators since 2011, when he premiered the complete set of my Three Settings of W. B. Yeats for string quartet and tenor. At his urging, I transcribed and published my Three Poems of Christina Rossetti (originally for medium voice) for high voice, which he premiered at the San Francisco Conservatory in 2014. American Death Ballads was premiered by him at the San Francisco Conservatory, November 1, 2015, with pianist John Churchwell, and at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference in Chicago, July 10, 2016, with pianist Warren Jones. The choice of texts for my American Death Ballads was inspired partly by Copland’s Old American Songs, which I deeply admire, but more by my dear friend and colleague the late Conrad Susa’s Two Murder Ballads. The ingenuity of Susa’s accompaniments for his ballads in imagining anew the original source material owes a great deal to Copland’s accompaniment for his songs. Though the content of my songs is completely original and not based on preexisting melodies, I have tried to expand on this further, as the texts are much longer, and go through many different moods and characters. The four texts I chose include stories about murder, death, and dying. Though two of the texts were written in England, they traveled to the colonies almost immediately. The subjects of the texts had spent time in America, and their stories were well known to Americans.Wicked Polly is a cautionary tale. Polly has lived a dissolute and immoral life, saying, 'I'll turn to God when I grow old.' Suddenly taken ill, she realizes that it is too late to repent. She dies in agony and is presumably sent to hell; young people are advised to heed. My musical setting is stately and preacherly in character for the narrator; for Polly it becomes pleading and remorseful. The Unquiet Grave was brought to the attention of Alan Lomax, the great American field collector of folk music, by English folk singer Shirley Collins. The text is taken from an English folk song dating from 1400. In The Unquiet Grave, a young man mourns his dead lover too fervently and prevents her from obtaining peace. The dead woman complains that his weeping is keeping her from peaceful rest. He begs a kiss; she tells him it would kill him. When he persists, wanting to join her in death, she explains that once they were both dead their hearts would simply decay, and that he should enjoy life while he has it. My setting is in a flowing Andante with a rocking accompaniment. Three voices are delineated here: the narrator, the mournful lover, and the dead lover speaking from the grave. The Dying Californian first appeared in the New England Diadem in 1854. Its lyrics are based on a letter from a New Englander’s sailor to his brother who is dying at sea while on the way to California to seek his fortune in the California gold fields. He implores his brother to impart his message to his father, mother, wife, and children. My setting opens with the singer alone in a moderate dirge tempo, then, joined by the piano, moves through many tonalities and moods before ending with supreme confidence as the speaker 'gained a port called Heaven/Where the gold will never rust.'Captain Kidd was a Scottish sailor who was tried and executed for piracy and murder in 1701. The American connection to this ballad is that Kidd escaped to America and for a time lived in New York and Boston, though he was a wanted criminal by the British authorities and was extradited to Britain, where he was hung at 'Executioner’s Dock.' The lyric was printed in Britain in 1701, traveling to the colonies almost immediately. Though the didactic tone of the text is similar to Wicked Polly, it expresses no regret until the final lines: 'Take warning now by me, and shun bad company, / Lest you come to hell with me, for I must die.' My setting is fast and spirited, expressing the confidence of a man who lived life as he wanted. -David Conte.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.828700 Composed by Karl Friedrich Abel. Arranged by Guido Menestrina. Classical. Score and parts. 16 pages. Guido Menestrina #122893. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828700). Karl Friedrich Abel - Sinfonia Op. 7 n. 1 - Secondo Movimento - Adagio Edited by Guido Menestrina - Full score and single parts for 2 oboe, 2 F Horns (originally cor de chasse, tacet on 2nd movement), 2 violins, viola and cello (originally basse de violon). Abel was born in Köthen, a small German city, where his father, Christian Ferdinand Abel, had worked for years as the principal viola da gamba and cello player in the court orchestra. In 1723 Abel senior became director of the orchestra, when the previous director, Johann Sebastian Bach moved to Leipzig. The young Abel later boarded at Leipzig's Thomasschule, where he was taught by Bach. On Bach's recommendation in 1743 he was able to join Johann Adolph Hasse's court orchestra at Dresden where he remained for fifteen years.[3][5] In 1759 (or 1758 according to Chambers),[1] he went to England and became chamber-musician to Queen Charlotte, in 1764.[3][5] He gave a concert of his own compositions in London, performing on various instruments, one of which was a five-string cello known as a pentachord, which had been recently invented by John Joseph Merlin.[6] In 1762, Johann Christian Bach, the eleventh son of J.S. Bach, joined him in London, and the friendship between him and Abel led, in 1764 or 1765, to the establishment of the famous Bach-Abel concerts, England's first subscription concerts. In those concerts, many celebrated guest artists appeared, and many works of Haydn received their first English performance. For ten years the concerts were organized by Mrs. Theresa Cornelys, a retired Venetian opera singer who owned a concert hall at Carlisle House in Soho Square, then the height of fashionable events. In 1775 the concerts became independent of her, to be continued by Abel and Bach until Bach's death in 1782. Abel still remained in great demand as a player on various instruments new and old. He traveled to Germany and France between 1782 and 1785, and upon his return to London, became a leading member of the Grand Professional Concerts at the Hanover Square Rooms in Soho. Throughout his life he had enjoyed excessive living, and his drinking probably hastened his death, which occurred in London on 20 June 1787. One of Abel's works became famous due to a misattribution: in the 19th century, a manuscript symphony in the hand of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was catalogued as his Symphony no. 3 in E flat, K. 18, and was published as such in the first complete edition of Mozart's works by Breitkopf & Härtel. Later, it was discovered that this symphony was actually the work of Abel, copied by the boy Mozart-evidently for study purposes-while he was visiting London in 1764. That symphony was originally published as the concluding work in Abel's Six Symphonies, Op. 7. Follow the score on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_urGVpH7Pls.

Living much of her life in isolation, Dickinson's thoughts often ventured into the shadowlands of existence. This poem, published posthumously in 1890, offers a chilling reflection of her contemplation. The Grim Reaper, a timeless symbol, is portrayed as a carriage driver, guiding the reader through a somber journey that mirrors the ephemeral nature of life. Passing scenes of childhood innocence, maturity's labor, and the twilight of existence, it culminates in the cold embrace of the grave. Her words, etched in a gothic darkness, resonate with the uncertainties and fears of her time, transcending to speak to the eternal human condition.

These kind of experiences for children can prepare them for a love of choral and exposure to singing with the big choir. Plus, as Psalm 8:2 informs us, children can have a ministry that silences the negative influence of the enemy and bring strength and encouragement to all who hear them sing praise! The children's part in this piece of music is a simple counter melody, no parts. Choir and various instruments - Digital Download SKU: MQ.6506-E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. 19 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #6506-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.6506-E). Crossing the Bar creates images of the sea, with the final voyage leading us out across the water, to see our Pilot, face to face. The musical setting endeavors to express the growth from peaceful to ecstatic moods, the tolling of the bell, the meeting of the Pilot. May there be no moaning of the bar, when I put out to see.The poetry of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) is characterized by dark, yet transcendent imagery -- the depths of the ocean, the triumph of the spirit. These poems seem well-suited to musical settings for Men's Chorus. The deep tones. The sonority of male voices (perhaps speaking for the poet) rising in song.Throughout the varied imagery of this poetry -- the depth of the sea, the dark of the night, the tumult of passion and the acceptance of death -- there speaks one, central message. Love was my lord and king. *Sound recording provided by the High School Mens's Honor Choir, Robert Ward, conductor (Southwestern ACDA Conference 2014)
