Irish Folk Tunes for Descant Recorder is a collection of 63 arrangements for descant recorder, of traditional tunes including a range of styles such as Reels, Hornpipes, Jigs and more.
Experienced recorder player and co-author of English Folk Tunes for Descant Recorder, the Baroque Recorder Anthology series, and Fun and Games with the Recorder series amongst others, Peter Bowman provides notes on all of the styles covered, as well as individual pieces. German and French translations of all texts are available as pdf downloads from the Schott Music website. Suitable for players of grades 3-8.
The volume contains recordings for download in order to get a sound impression of the stylistic and technical features of the pieces.

Sarah "Cellobat" Chaffee earned her bachelor's degree in cello performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and is now based in Las Vegas. She currently performs with Aerosmith in their "Deuces Are Wild" residency at The Park MGM Theater on the Las Vegas Strip. Sarah is also the principal cellist in David Perrico's Pop Strings Orchestra, a 14-piece band that performs every Friday and Saturday at Caesars Palace, and she plays regularly for Premiere Wedding Music and Bella Electric Strings. From the composer: "What are Morphs? Morphs are tiny compositions. I wrote them as springboards for improvisation. Most Morphs are under four measures; a few are longer. I wrote these little pieces on piano, but any instrumentalist or vocalist can adapt them. They can also be played in groups. Morphs can be played as written -- with no improvisation -- to practice rhythmic dexterity and keeping a steady pulse. However, you'll have the most fun with these pieces if you have some knowledge of improvisation, scales, modes and chord symbols, or if you have an experienced improviser to work with. As you can see, Morphs are not just in major and minor scales; they are also in some of the various modes and occasionally a pentatonic scale. The time signatures also vary. Try playing the Morphs as written for a few cycles, then branch out and start improvising. There are no rules. In fact, you can change meter or key as desired.
