Choir Sacred Instrumental Ensemble - SKU: JX.00-39162 Incorporating This Little Light of Mine. Composed by Thomas A. Dorsey. Arranged by Vicki Tucker Courtney. This edition: InstruPax. Choral (Sacred); Choral Octavo; Performance Music Ensemble; Single Titles; Worship Resources. Alfred Church Choral Series. Gospel; Sacred. Part(s). 19 pages. Jubilate Music Group - Digital #00-39162. Published by Jubilate Music Group - Digital (JX.00-39162). English.Vicki Tucker Courtney puts on her Gospel shoes to spread the good news in a Thomas A Dorsey favorite. She pairs it with flickers of This Little Light and the result is a worship tool that any church can use. The swing feel is fun and her just right piano accompaniment makes for a rafter raiser whether performed with piano alone or with the easy feeling rhythm parts. Did we mention, this anthem swings? Related Scripture: Matthew 5:16; Mark 9:2-13; Acts 6:7.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - SKU: A0.845966 By The Commodores. By Lionel Richie. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. Contemporary,Hip-Hop,Pop,R & B,Rock. Score and parts. 21 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #4967807. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.845966). Finally, the slow-dance number that your gig book has been missing for all these years! Dim the lights, pop a fresh bottle of bubbly, and melt your audience's troubles away with this jazzy rendition of one of the quintessential crooner, Lionel Richie's, most magnificent masterworks.A few tasteful reharminizations and backbeat chopping rhythms give this arrangement a groove that you can really lay back into. Feel free to repeat the solo section and throw down your best improv, or just let the Commodores' original signature solo set the Sunday morning scene; the guitar solo is printed in the parts. Did I mention I added a key change at the end? Oh no he didn't... OH YES I DID! You can almost feel the sunshine streaming down upon your face, folks. Chill. Vibes. For. Days. Thanks to the power of chopping and pizzicato bass lines, this arrangement can stand alone with absolutely no need for additional rhythm instruments. However, in the interest of inclusion, I have attached a rhythm section lead sheet so that all of your friends, whether they have bows, picks, or sticks, can join in on the fun.Prove your worth as an ensemble by tastefully caressing your listeners' ears with this sultry soliloquy; a reminder that the space between the notes can be the most important part of a captivating performance. If you love this arrangement, try upping the ante even more by pairing it with my arrangement of Brick House for an epic Commodores medley that's a surefire bet to wow the crowd! The optional transition is included in the parts.Brick House available at: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/brick-house-jazz-string-quartet-digital-sheet-music/21498631?ac....Performance time: 3 minutes. Optionally, vamp the solo section and/or trade with other musicians if you need to stretch it out.Questions? Instrumental Solo - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1271184 By Billie Eilish. By Billie Eilish O'Connell and Finneas O'Connell. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Children,Contemporary,Film/TV. Individual part. 4 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #863576. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1271184). About the arrangement This is pianist/arranger Thomas Gunther's beautiful and highly accurate piano solo arrangement of the 2023 Barbie Movie features Billie Eilish's song WHAT I WAS MADE FOR.  It includes even Billie's quiet humming passages. This solo piano version can be played all by itself, or with Billie's recording of the song.It is easy enough to learn for pianists that have no amazing techniqual skills, but can be challanging in different ways, as explained below. From the Arranger Thomas Gunther  The most challenging task when writing this solo piano arrangement of What I Was Made For was to notate Billie's rhythm accurately. Her melodic rhythm is very important as it supports the flow of the lyrics perfectly. Notating a singer's rhythm can unfortunately never be 100% perfect (notation is by definition quantized), but I think I got very close. An other challenge was to get the accompaniment sound like the original without stepping on the melody notes. Looking at my final version I think it is as good as it gets for a piano adaption of this highly emotional song.I really hope all you Billie Eilish fans out there will enjoy playing this arrangement! How difficult is it As mentioned earlier, the song looks simple, but to play it well there is a lot of things the pianist has to take care of. The most challenging aspect is to sustain some notes by either using clever fingering or employing the sustain pedal. Also, dynamics are really important, especially when ballancing the accompaniment against the melody. Fingering I included fingering numbers to give the pianist a starting point. But fingering is a highly subjective affaire. Every pianist should feel free to adapt her/his own fingering as see fit. Sustain pedal usage The sustain pedal usage is very important in this arrangement (I included sustain pedal markings for this very reason). For one, it helps sustaining some notes that can't be held otherwise, and of course to make the sound fuller (more cinematic). It is important to use the pedal to create a sense of space (distance). After all, the original recording uses a lot of reverb to achieve that. Chord Symbols I did not include pop chord symbols because the harmony to the the song is very simple and based around 4 diatonic chords. It would just cludder up the score. At PopJazzKeys.com/Barbie I talk a little bit about the chords.

Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings #2347283. Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733028). Almost everybody and his mother on the Planet have written their own arrangements of Amazing Grace so I guess I should not be the exception. Amazing Grace (And Then some) is written for Solo Tuba, accompanied by a wind band. I was inspired to write this chart by a young man named Brandon Jones who lives in the Mobile, Alabama area. He was about 20 years old at the time of this writing (in 2012). He wanted to dedicate it to his father who had died when Brandon was about 4 or 5 years old. My arrangement of Amazing Grace (And Then Some) is not just another theme and variations type of work. Instead, I have interwoven two additional hymns (Praise to the Lord, the Almighty and I Will Sing of My Redeemer) in order to break up the monotony of just the one hymn (hence the subtitle And Then Some) Oh, did I mention that Brandon plays a C tuba that was passed down from his father?

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.845990 By Ben Folds. By Ben Folds. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. Contemporary,Folk,Pop,Rock,Wedding. Score and parts. 21 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #6348963. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.845990). This instrumental setting of Ben Folds's heartfelt ballad, The Luckiest will make an excellent addition to your quartet's gig book. If your client requests to hear this song as they walk down the aisle, as opposed to the usual Bridal Chorus, Wedding March, Canon in D, or *shudder* Don't Stop Believing, reward them for their excellent taste in contemporary love songs by serenading them with an arrangement that truly shines!I've done my best to pay homage to Ben's original piano part by spreading some of the arpeggios between the violin & viola to create a sort of cascading pizzicato. The good news is you can perform this completely on your own as a quartet, no need to hire a pianist to accompany you. The less good news is you probably won't want to try sight-reading this unless you really trust that your internal rhythmic compasses are completely in sync, but with a very small amount of rehearsal a professional ensemble should have no problem tackling this chart, and I promise it will be really pretty! Your audiences will be fighting back tears almost as hard as they fought you on the price to book your ensemble for the gig ;-)This sentimental serenade will surely be a hit in settings such as... -Weddings-Wedding showers-Wedding conventions-Wedding advertisement videos-Funerals-Chamber music shows-Coffee shops-Retirement parties-Yoga studios-Meditation sessions-Did I mention weddings? (...yes, I wrote this chart for a wedding gig)Performance time - approximately 4:30 for the full chart, but can be tailored to your gig's needs by skipping a verse or chorus. Each section is labeled on the chart in case of such a requirement.Questions? Feel free to contact me via my website, www.kylepudenz.com/ or on the 'Insta @theviolinvagabond.

String Quartet - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download By Bon Iver. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. Score, Set of Parts. 19 pages. Published by ViolinVagabond Music
This instrumental setting of Bon Iver's "Holocene" will be an excellent addition to your quartet's gig book. The first violin gracefully drifts in and out of Justin Vernon's haunting melodies, while role of the acoustic guitar ostinato from the album version is filled by a 2-part pizzicato figure between Violin 2 and Viola, enabling your string quartet to perform this chart without the need for any additional musicians or tracks.
Extended techniques including chopping and artificial harmonics are used to emulate the unique production style of Bon Iver's recording. While not the flashiest or most technically dazzling chart in my catalog, this tune will give your ensemble a great opportunity to vibe out, settle into the groove, and provide pleasant ambience to events such as:
-Weddings
-Wedding showers
-Wedding conventions
-Wedding advertisement videos

Jazz Combo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1023975 By Peabo Bryson And Regina Belle. By Alan Menken. Arranged by Odd Helge Hveding. Film/TV. Score and parts. 27 pages. Oh2Musikk #3056155. Published by oh2Musikk (A0.1023975). How can your trombone quartet gain more audience? By playing with other people. You want your concerts to be well visited and to help you with that, I make arrangements (and compositions) for trombonequartet with guitar, piano, bass and drums. They also contain an optional bass-trombone/ tuba part and sometimes a solo part. This one contains a trombone solo part. This arrangement of A Whole New World, is scored for Solo Trombone in front of the ensemble mentioned above. There are two solo parts in the set. One high and and one low. You can combine those two if that makes you more comfortable. Durata: 3,5 minutes (approx.) The song itself is about Alladin taking Jasmine on a ride on the magic carpet. The lyrics are all about discovering what you didn’t know about and be grateful for all the adventures life gives. This makes it a perfect piece to play in a variety of places, like weddings, celebrations of any kind, graduations, not to mention many types of concerts. With a few adjustments you can also use parts of this arrangement and make it work. It’s most powerful when you use the whole band, but it still makes a lot of sense if you have to skip some of the parts. There are so many times I have had to skip a piece in a concert, using a not as good substitute, because we didn’t have the people to play it. In this series I have made it easier to still be able to play it, even if you don’t manage to cover every part. Check it out and you’ll understand. Do you want to know more about me and my music? Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869356). Instrumentation: 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 English horn, 2 bassoons, 2 French horns, timpani and strings.Program note: In the year 2010, my wife Kristin Beckwith and I went to Paris twice, the first time in May and the second time in December right after Christmas. The weather was magnificent in May. Our friends Seph and Roger met us there. Being long-time veterans of Paris, they took us all over the city: Le Marais, the Left Bank, Montmartre, Sacré Coeur, Père LaChaise cemetery, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Notre Dame cathedral, Eiffel Tower, the flea market at Porte de Clignancourt, the canal at Saint Martin, etc. Since the weather was so great we basically stayed outside the entire two weeks. My wife Kris said that we had to return next again to Paris to go inside the museums. So we did. The weather in Paris after Christmas was very damp and chilly. So we did indoor activities: Le Louvre, Musée D’Orsay, Palais Garnier, etc. We even attended a beautiful performance of Swan Lake by the Paris Opera Ballet at L’Opéra Bastille. I should also mention that on both occasions I met up with a former student of mine from Berklee, Joe Makholm. He makes a living in Paris playing jazz piano. Joe got us a gig at the Swan Bar in Montparnasse. On the first occasion we did it as a trio with a French bass player. I played flute. On the second occasion, we did it as a duo. Playing jazz in Paris? You can’t beat that!!! Early this year, Steven Lipsitt and I had a chat about my writing a new work for the Boston Classical Orchestra. My last work for the BCO was a piano concerto with Robert Levin as soloist. I told Steven that this time I wanted to write a symphony. He said, Sure. Go ahead. I told him it would be about Paris. He said he would put Mozart’s Paris Symphony on the same program. I said, Fabulous! Symphony No. 8 … City of Light (2011) is in five movements. 1. La Seine Presto, Moderato 2. Basilique du Sacré-Coeur Largo 3. Palais Garnier Allegro, Trio 4. Avenue des Champs-Élysées Allegro 5. Musée du Louvre Largo, Moderato This work is dedicated to my wife and muse, Kristin Beckwith. Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows | Concert BandPersonally, I was always a big fan of the Shrek movies, especially the music. From 'I'm a believer' to 'Welcome to Duloc', all these songs keep stuck in your head, and I did not even mention 'All Stars'... But this one is upliftingAccidentally in Love is a song by American rock band Counting Crows. The song was written for the opening scene of the 2004 DreamWorks animated film Shrek 2 and appears on the movie's soundtrack as the opening track. It was released as a single on May 3, 2004, two weeks before the movie premiered in theaters. The single was commercially successful, peaking within the top 40 on several music charts. My name is Willem Aarts, and I have been arranging music since 2016. I play trombone and French horn myself, but I also love to transcribe existing music to several ensembles, from individual parts to full orchestra's and everything inbetween. It is always a challenge to add my own touch, but I try my very best with every arrangement I make! You can contact me:Website: www.wa-music.nlE-mail: info@wa-music.nlSheetMusicPlus: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/3004231YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/WillemAarts

Maria Thompson Corley #846622. Published by Maria Thompson Corley (A0.1252822). “Pax Aeternam†was written in memory of renowned composer Barbara York, a fellow Canadian whom I was blessed enough to meet in person through my interaction with Matt Brown. Though we connected many years into my collaborative piano career, Matt is the first tubist I ever worked with, and Barbara’s music was my favorite part of getting introduced to the tuba literature. I was thrilled to learn how much she appreciated my playing of her work.“How Beautiful†was written in memory of Matt’s son Eli, who had a congenital condition that took his life a few hours after he was born. This flawless piece of music, poignant yet never maudlin, provided the title for a recording Matt and I did of all of Barbara’s tuba output. It also threw down the gauntlet when Danny Rowland approached me, at Matt’s suggestion, about composing a piece. Danny mentioned loving “How Beautiful,†and intending to commission Barbara, who’d recently passed on. I’d never written for the tuba before, but felt absolutely no pressure. That’s a lie.Like “How Beautiful,†“Pax Aeternam†is in a major key; in my case, I wanted to evoke wistfulness rather than despair. Barbara’s path was full of suffering, and having lost a brother to prolonged illness, I’ve come to embrace the idea that death can be a sweet relief from pain. I tried to capture some of Barbara’s spirit, particularly in the middle section, and chose triple meter to give the outer sections a bit of “swing.†I don’t recall Barbara as a somber person, and I wanted to paint a portrait of someone who moved through life with a smile. I didn’t know her as well as many, but I always found her kind, generous, and unpretentious. I hope that this musical portrait does her justice.I created a cello transcription for a performance with Sara Male, my partner in Duo Chiaroscuro. This seemed appropriate, since “Still Waters Running Deep,†one of our signature pieces, is a transcription of the slow movement of Barbara’s bassoon sonata, created at our request by the composer.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1145015 By Herbie Hancock. By Herbie Hancock. Arranged by Kyle Pudenz. Jazz,Standards. Score and parts. 31 pages. ViolinVagabond Music #745332. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.1145015). Settle into the groove with this tasteful interpretation of a modal jazz staple for the modern string quartet!! I didn’t seek to re-invent the wheel with this arrangement, but rather to capture some of its signature jazz combo swagger while fitting the signature lines & licks into string-friendly voicings. I did add an original intro & outro, which will give a bit more pizazz to your live performance than the fade out from Herbie’s original album version. The full chart includes written-out solos for each member of the quartet. I highly encourage improvising your own solos if you are comfortable, or even vamping one or more of the solo sections to really stretch out as you watch your next cocktail hour gig fly by! For a shorter (and significantly more lame…) performance, you can instead cut one or more of the solo sections from letter C thru F to save time. This arrangement makes use of modern extended string techniques in order to create a rhythmic foundation without the need for additional rhythm instruments, including chopping and ghost notes. If you are unfamiliar with these concepts, various resources exist all over the internet to aid you in your quest towards having better time. I recommend this series, for example: https://strum-bowing-groove-academy.teachable.com?coupon_code=KYLE20&affcode=459429_z8y3atf That being said, if broadening your horizons to the world of percussive string playing just doesn't sound like your cup of tea, I have included a Rhythm Section Chart for performances with drums/percussion, guitar, bass, etc. It is highly recommended for you to use either the chopping parts or rhythm section musicians. If you use neither, you may feel as if something is missing in your life that you just can’t pinpoint. Don’t worry, I’ll pinpoint it for you: BACKBEATS. One way or another, you need them. And I’ve given you multiple options here so if you can’t make this chart groove that’s on you… Performance time - approximately 5:00 for the full chart as written. As mentioned above, solo sections can be repeated with improv or cut without requiring significant chart changes, to adjust to the needs of your specific performance. Each solo section is ~30 seconds if you want to do the math on that. Questions? Feel free to contact me via my website, www.kylepudenz.com/ or on the 'Insta @theviolinvagabond. Would love to hear your performances if you play this chart out live, so please send videos along and tag me!

Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.1270300). Juan MarÃa Solare: Embracing the Comfort Zone, for piano solo [en Castellano debajo]Tons of motivational speeches suggest, or rather order, to leave the comfort zone in order to achieve success. I dare to relativize this idea. In the comfort zone, one feels safe and in control. It is the realm of mastery, the place where we perform at our best. When in your comfort zone we can carry out tasks with ease and precision. Discomfort is not a measure of growth. Stress hampers creativity. While stress might be necessary in some situations to combat stagnation, life itself constantly pushes us outside our comfort zone. The comfort zone is not the enemy, it's not a trap. Instead, it can be our ally, a place where we can safely build with a solid foundation. And if you have the feeling it's not large enough, you can expand it.Oh, I forgot to mention that this is a quiet piano piece! In neoclassical style.

Arranged by Maria Thompson Corley. 21st Century,Classical,Religious,Sacred,Spiritual. 31 pages. Maria Thompson Corley #864728. Published by Maria Thompson Corley (A0.1272503). “Crossing Jordan†grew out of my daughter Kiana’s surprise request that I arrange a spiritual for voice, piano and cello for her senior recital. She received a degree in commercial music the year before COVID shut everything down, at a time before climate change made blizzards an anomaly here in Central PA. As a result, snow days still existed. I spent one of them doing the first draft of “Deep River,†her favorite.Later, I decided that if singers engage a cellist for a concert, they might like to program more than one piece for them, so I chose two more water-themed spirituals to complete the set. “His Name So Sweet†is a more meditative version of the song than I’ve generally heard. I wanted the piano, cello, and briefly the voice to imitate the fountain in the text. The mood is ecstasy, resulting from the fundamental change that baptism is meant to create. “Deep River†also includes “Michael Row The Boat Ashore†and “The Water Is Wide.†The latter isn’t a spiritual, however, taken together the message is that the river is deep, the water is wide, but with (the Archangel?) Michael’s help, Jordan can be crossed. “Wade in the Water†is one of the most well-known spirituals. I focus on the idea of escaping enslavement: the opening is quiet, furtive, maybe even nervous. The Moses in the text can be understood to be Harriet Tubman, who might urge escapees to wade in the water so pursuing dogs couldn’t follow their scent. In my mind, the ending symbolizes that the party has vanished, never to be enslaved again. The first instrumental version of “Deep River†was for trumpet and piano, performed by my sister, Alicia Thompson, and her son, Justin Griffin, during a church service in Atlanta shortly after I arranged it. After hearing a recording, I took borrowed her idea of adding a repeat (which she did to allow enough time for the ushers to take up collection). The clarinet, cello and piano version was premiered by the Isosceles Trio (Doris Hall-Gulati (clarinet), Sara Male (cello), and me (piano)). When Naima Burrs, violinist and conductor of the Petersburg Symphony, asked if I had any pieces for trio, I created a version for violin, piano and cello. The flute/piano/cello version may have been performed, but if so, nobody has mentioned it to me. Please note that the YouTube version uses a clarinet. The flute version is slightly different, to accommodate the difference in range.P.S. I’d love to hear that version, if you have a recording of it.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 4 - SKU: A0.928974 By The Beach Boys. By Brian Wilson and Gary Usher. Arranged by Donald A. Mills, 2019. A Cappella,Pop,Rock. Octavo. 3 pages. Donald A Mills #4351149. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928974). In My Room, by The Beach Boys. This gentle song may be sung as a prayer, with tenderness. Your audiences will love the melody and harmonies. This arrangement by Donald A. Mills is for barbershop as a quartet or chorus. It is TTBB (TLBB) a cappella, sung softly, sweetly, legato, singing the four dotted quarter notes as a 3/4 time. The Beach Boys have mentioned that they wrote In My Room in 12/8 time because they had tired of the 3/4 time many songs of the day were written in. From Wikipedia, Gary Usher explained that 'In My Room found us taking our craft a little more seriously. Brian and I came back to the house one night after playing 'over-the-line' (a baseball game). I played bass and Brian was on organ. The song was written in an hour... Brian's melody all the way. The sensitivity... the concept meant a lot to him. When we finished, it was late, after our midnight curfew. In fact, Murry [the Wilson brothers' father] came in a couple of times and wanted me to leave. Anyway, we got Audree [the Wilson brothers' mother], who was putting her hair up before bed, and we played it for her. She said, 'That's the most beautiful song you've ever written.' Murry said, 'Not bad, Usher, not bad,' which was the nicest thing he ever said to me. Gary Usher (who co-wrote the lyrics with Brian Wilson) further describes that Brian was always saying that his room was his whole world. Brian seconds this opinion: I had a room, and I thought of it as my kingdom. And I wrote that song, very definitely, that you're not afraid when you're in your room. It's absolutely true. In 1990, Brian wrote, I also enjoyed producing 'In My Room'. There is a story behind this song. When Dennis, Carl and I lived in Hawthorne as kids, we all slept in the same room. One night I sang the song 'Ivory Tower' to them and they liked it. Then a couple of weeks later, I proceeded to teach them both how to sing the harmony parts to it. It took them a little while, but they finally learned it. We then sang this song night after night. It brought peace to us. When we recorded 'In My Room', there was just Dennis, Carl and me on the first verse...and we sounded just like we did in our bedroom all those nights. This story has more meaning than ever since Dennis' death.

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869266). Instrumentation: Alto sax solo and orchestra, 2222-4231-perc-drum set-strings Program note. Maestro Max Hobart called me in the spring of 2009 and told me to check out this young jazz phenom on the saxophone named Grace Kelly. I said OK, that’s cool. That summer we went to the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square to hear her play with her band, and I was duly impressed by her musicality, soulfulness and chops. Max asked if I would be interested in writing a concerto for her and the Wellesley Symphony. I said, Sure. It sounds like a great idea. One of the most cherished jazz records in my vast collection is the collaboration between Stan Getz and Eddie Sauter entitled Focus. Eddie, who used to be an arranger for the Benny Goodman Band in the forties, went on to create the Sauter Finegan Band in the early fifties. The band was one of the first to include the piccolo, oboe, bassoon, harp, celesta, French horn, tuba, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, timpani, and other unusual symphonic instruments in the standard big band format of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section of piano, bass and drum set. On the album Focus Eddie Sauter composed seven tracks of music for string orchestra and rhythm section. Stan Getz did not have a written part - he just improvised over the written music. If you are not familiar with this recording, then you will do yourself a huge favor if you go find it and add it to your own CD collection. The music is phenomenal and Stan is on top of his game, soaring above the strings with endless melodic inventions, flights of imagination and whimsy! It is one of those desert island CDs one should not be without. When I emailed Grace about this project and mentioned Stan Getz’s Focus, she said, It’s one of my favorite albums. So, we got off on a positive note immediately. My work, Focus on Grace … Concerto for Jazz Saxophone and Orchestra, is very much inspired both by the Stan Getz album and by the performances I heard of Grace and her band. The first movement is based on a funk groove in D minor: Grace’s part is initially written-out but she improvises freely in the coda. The second movement is a boss nova: as in the Stan Getz album, Grace does not have a written part but improvises over a set of chord changes provided by the orchestra. The third and last movement is an Afro-Cuban groove in six-eight: Grace has a written melody at first but soon launches into improvisation on a 12-bar blues in F. She ends the concerto in a free cadenza to show off her virtuosity and saxophone chops. ENJOY!!!

Published by James Strauss (A0.1035219). Writing to his brother Modest on 18/30 January 1877, Tchaikovsky mentioned that the violinist Iosif Kotek had ordered a piece from him for a forthcoming concert. Four days later Kotek wrote to Tchaikovsky: Thank you in advance for the waltz; it will surely be wonderful, as is everything that you compose... this shall be a piece to impress everybody. In another letter from mid/late February, we read: Incidentally, about the waltz. Why force yourself if you are tired? Of course, I would be delighted and infinitely glad if you were to write the waltz, especially since it is for me. I am still very glad that you have even started to think about this.In the period from March to August, we find no further references to work on the Valse. But, given that in March and April, Tchaikovsky wrote his Fourth Symphony, and that in May he was completely absorbed in composing the opera Yevgeny Onegin, it is likely that by this time the Valse had already been completed. It seems that the waltz was partly or wholly orchestrated by Kotek after Tchaikovsky completed the version for violin with piano. This is suggested by two letters from Kotek to Tchaikovsky: in October 1878, the violinist reported to Tchaikovsky on an unsuccessful performance of the piece: Could my instrumentation be the reason that the waltz did not please?, and early in 1879 he wrote: I think that I badly orchestrated the Waltz ... what extraordinarily empty sounds!. None of Tchaikovsky's letters refer to the orchestration of the piece. Here for the very first time in aversion for flute and piano - I tried to not transcribe the violin part, but re-write the solo part as it was made for flute.
