My goal is to create something that sounds beautiful as a standalone piece of music and, most importantly, that it also makes pianistic sense. Each of my arrangements is made for a specific student, so the results will vary in terms of playing level. Most decisions are based on their current skills and abilities, or where I would like for them to be when they complete the piece. This arrangement was made for a mid-beginner student working in Level 1/2 of Alfred's Masterwork Classics, Primary II Class. Great exercise for counting tied eighth notes. But the truth is, when a student knows the song, sometimes the counting goes straight out the window! My student ended up learning this in about two weeks. We were both surprised! Pedal and fingering suggestions are included.

C Instrument - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1487908 By John Denver. By Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. Arranged by John Fries. Christmas,Country,Film/TV,Holiday,Standards. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 2 pages. John Fries #1064839. Published by John Fries (A0.1487908). TYPE JOHN FRIES IN THE SEARCH BAR TO SEE ALL I HAVE TO OFFER. Thanks, John. Silver Bells is a Christmas song composed by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. It debuted in the motion picture The Lemon Drop Kid (1951), where it was started by William Frawley, then sung in the generally known version immediately thereafter by Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell. Silver Bells started out as Tinkle Bells. Songwriter Ray Evans said: We never thought that tinkle had a double meaning until Jay went home and his first wife said, 'Are you out of your mind? Do you know what the word tinkle is?'This song's inspiration is the source of conflicting reports. Several periodicals and interviews cite writer Jay Livingston stating that the song's inspiration came from the bells used by sidewalk Santa Clauses and Salvation Army solicitors on New York City street corners. However, in an interview with NPR, co-writer Ray Evans said that the song was inspired by a bell that sat on an office desk that he shared with Livingston. Evans's hometown of Salamanca, New York has taken credit for being the city mentioned in the song's lyrics and holds a Silver Bells in the City festival each December.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Clarinet,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.836709 Composed by Brian Joyce. Contemporary. Score and part. 27 pages. Brian Joyce #3074129. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836709). A piece shrouded in mystery and intrigue. For myself, I mean: I don’t even know what the title means, nor why this particular piece should wear it. The music and the title came as a package deal, falling on me out of the blue one day. It wasn’t on my to-do list, nor was I looking for extra work. But perhaps that’s the answer: the piece itself is the Agent, breaking into my nicely ordered studio and disrupting things for the next few months. I’ll have to think about this some more. But I digress. Whatever its meaning or provenance, it’s an odd little sonatina. For instance, at its heart the second movement is a traditional scherzo and trio, but it is as misshapen as anything H. P. Lovecraft himself might have envisioned. Even I am not sure where the beginnings and endings of the sections are without a score in hand. Mystery upon mystery. Another example: as I began to work on the third movement, I wasn’t sure if it would be a simple binary or ternary form, a rondo or a sonata-allegro. I never did find out, to be honest. All I know is that, to my ears, it sounds like what might have resulted if I had been asked to write the theme to The Simpsons. The audio sample will give you some idea of what I mean.More questions than answers.Performance time is a little under 14 minutes.

Choral Choir (SSA) - Level 1 - SKU: A0.774734 By Fleet Foxes. By Robin Pecknold. Arranged by Sandra Millien. Contemporary. Octavo. 9 pages. Sandra Milliken #4404578. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774734). White Winter Hymnal was first released by the American indie folk band Fleet Foxes in 2008 as the first single from their debut self-titled album. The song was written by group member Robin Pecknold and has been covered by several groups and solo singers including Kim Wilde in 2013 and Pentatonix in 2014.The meaning behind White Winter Hymnal is somewhat open to conjecture. Pecknold has explained that he intended this gently uplifting song to be like Whistle While You Work from Snow White – something to hum along to as you do the dishes. Pecknold added that the words actually tell a more painful story about loss of the innocence of youth, being about my experience when I was a kid, you know, like I had my really tight group of friends. But as we grew up from grade school to junior high to high school, everybody just kind of split off, and everybody kind of changed. I went from like this tight-knit group to, seemingly for no reason, everybody was kind of going their own way. That song is just about that feeling. This very accessible arrangement, featuring piano and guitar accompaniment with tambourine percussion, is ideally suited to winter and general programming, and makes an ideal concert opener.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - SKU: A0.887255 Composed by Charles-Louis Hanon. Arranged by Martin Woodward. Instructional. Score. 37 pages. Martin Woodward #6513221. Published by Martin Woodward (A0.887255). Hanon Piano / Keyboard Exercises 1 - 30Condensed and Simplified for Beginners Easy ReadingIn this short book you will find condensed and simplified versions of the Hanon piano finger exercises 1 - 30 as well as the major, harmonic minor and melodic minor scales in every key (two octaves). What is Hanon? The ‘Hanon Virtuoso Pianist’ is a collection of piano finger exercises designed to give equal strength, agility and flexibility to all five fingers of both hands. Written by Charles-Louis Hanon sometime in the 1800s, these exercises without doubt have become one of the most widely used techniques by today’s pianists. In my opinion these are the best finger exercises available. One really great thing about these exercises is that they are applicable to both absolute beginners and advanced players alike, particularly as the reading ability required is minimal. Whatever your ability, these exercises will help improve your technique and finger strength. Having been written well over 100 years ago, the original work is now in the public domain and therefore digital copies can be acquired free of charge on the internet. However, most of these are very poor quality and the instructions are mainly in French or Russian - neither of which work too well for me! For the full version I personally recommend the ‘Alfred’ Edition edited by Allan Small which is clear and has instructions in English. So why do I need this book? The whole point is to make it easy to read and to reduce page turns - less is more! In the full version the first 30 exercises take up fifty pages whereas here there are three exercises per page for the first 20, then two per page for the next 10, reducing the fifty pages to just twelve. I initially produced this for my own use only but figured that others may like to take advantage of what I’ve done. Does this mean that the print is just smaller? No, not at all. If you are familiar with these exercises you will know that they are repeated patterns which ascend and descend for two octaves diatonically. To condense and simplify them and consequently eliminate an enormous amount of page turns I have shown: the all-important fingering on the first pattern (as per the original)then the repeated second patternthen ‘changeover’ patterns between ascending and descending - which are sometimes slightly differentthen finally the last pattern of each exercise which again is often very slightly different. I have also written them two octaves apart (for easy reading) and only shown them for one octave instead of two. In practice they should be played one octave apart and ultimately be practiced for two octaves. You can print out any or all the pages as required (the link for the pdf printable version is given at the end of the book). Please see: https://learn-keyboard.co.uk/hanon.html

Piano,Viola - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1039822 Composed by David M. Sterrett. Classical,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and part. 49 pages. David Sterrett Music #644666. Published by David Sterrett Music (A0.1039822). This piece depicts the story of the Penitent Thief, one of the two other men who hung on a cross beside Jesus, as told in the Bible: One of the thieves who were hanged by Jesus was hurling abuse at him, saying, 'Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!' But the other answered, and rebuking him, said, 'Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? We indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.' And he was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!' And Jesus said to him, 'Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.' (Luke 23:39-43) I initially set out to portray the scene from a narrative perspective. As I began composing and felt the story resonate more and more with my own spiritual experiences, I decided to shift the focus onto what I imagined the emotional and spiritual experiences of the Penitent Thief were during this brief but transformative interaction with Jesus right before death. While the passage does not describe his internal experience, I imagine that Jesus’ extension of kindness and mercy, along with the promise “Today you will be with me in Paradise,†profoundly impacted him. In composing this, I hoped to convey that transformative encounter. Ultimately, The Penitent Thief depicts an experience familiar to many Christians: that of a lost and broken soul discovering Jesus offers the truth and salvation they long for. To capture the element of dialog, I envisioned the Viola as the Penitent Thief and the Piano as Jesus. Each has a distinct theme/motif. On the cross, the Penitent Thief is consumed by shame, sorrow, and fear of death. His demeanor shifts between moments of quiet contemplation and visceral emotional outbursts. Facing imminent death, he yearns for redemption and truth. He looks at Jesus hanging next to him, blameless and holy. He feels admiration and praise and is overcome by penitence and humility. He calls out, half in desperation, half in worship: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom…†Jesus, moved by his penitence and belief, responds with kindness and mercy, extending salvation: Today you will be with me in Paradise.†The Penitent Thief imagines Paradise and hopes for this to hold true. His hope becomes briefly overshadowed by lingering doubt and fear. Silence falls. Then, as the hour of death arrives, the man reaches out again and clings to Jesus’ promise, this time with more desperation. His soul suddenly becomes filled with joy, finding the fulfillment of longing, bound with Christ, and knowing that he will soon be at rest in Paradise. At peace, the man gazes upward, gives his final sputtering breath, and his soul departs this world.

Here is the piece Arthur Breur composed for the family and friends of Zayne Shomler, December 14, 1998 - February 8, 2016. Prior to performing the piece, he spoke to the assembled mourners with the following prepared text:It does no disservice to laugh or smile - or, yes, to cry - when remembering Zayne. He is a part of your life and always will remain so. You carry him into your future with you.Likewise, it does him no service to unjustly obsess over things that are now unchangeable. Things said that cannot be unsaid. Things done that cannot be undone. Things not done that you feel you should have done. It does not serve Zayne or anyone to beat yourself up over such things, because then you just carry pain and sadness into your future with you, when you could be carrying -and sharing-the joy, the love, and the lessons you learned from having Zayne in your life for the time that you did.All that you can do is what you can do now. Let those who are here now know that you love them and you are here for them. Be here for them now, and be here with them every moment you can into the future. There is a very powerful and meaningful quote by the late author, Terry Pratchett: No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away... I personally find great hope and comfort in that saying. Do your best to make as many ripples in the world as possible-heck, make a splash! Touch as many lives as possible. Remember those who created ripples that touched your life, and to keep those ripples going for as long as it is in your power to do so.You carry Zayne into your future with you. In you. You carry him into the future by Remembering Zayne and sharing the good that he brought into your life, so that the ripples he made continue to go out and touch others through you.***As performed by the composer: https://soundcloud.com/arthurbreur/remembering-zayneApprox. 3m20sArthur Breur (BMI)https://arthurbreur.comhttps://twitter.com/arthurbreur
